Abstract

Nudibranchia are mollusks without a shell. They are simultaneous hermaphrodites and are carnivores while some of them are cannibals. Nudibranchia are frequent occupants and foraging on coral reefs. The study was conducted at two locations, namely Waleo Village Waters representing the waters of Mollucas and Sulawesi Sea was represented by Kalasey Village. The difference in the location of the two waters is expected to affect the existence of community structures. The present study includes diversity, richness, evenness, dominance and similarity. A line transect was used to collect data. We found 84 individuals from both study sites representing 8 species of Nudibranchia, which fall into 4 genera and 3 families namely, Pteraeolididae, Phyllidiidae, and Chromodorididae. The most common family was the Phyllidiidae. The similarity value at both locations was 54.5%© Penelitian tentang struktur komunitas gastropoda nudibranchia telah dilakukan di dua lokasi yaitu Desa Waleo (Laut Maluku) dan Desa Kalasey (Laut Sulawesi). Abstract

Study of benthic foraminifera on the coral reefs of Bunaken Island, North Sulawesi Province, was carried out with the aim of providing information regarding the description, distribution and FoRAM Index values on the coral reef environment of Bunaken Island. Sediment sampling in the field was carried out at 5 stations around the island, each area has been plotted on the map, with 3 repetitions and using a SCUBA tool at a depth of 3-8 meters. From observations of sediment surface samples at 15 points in 5 stations spread over Bunaken Island, 5,770 benthic foraminifera specimens have been identified. 81 species from 26 genera of foraminifera were identified and they were then grouped into functional groups to obtain the FoRAM Index. The Index were ranged from 7.18 to 10.5. This indicates that the environment of the coral reef waters around the island is still in good condition. Keywords : Benthic Foraminifera, Coral Reef Ecosystem, Bunaken Island. Abstract

Nematocysts of three Scleractinian corals, i.e., Pocillopora eydouxi, Pocillopora woodjonesi and Pocillopora verrucosa occurring in the reef of the coastal area of Malalayang, Manado, North Sulawesi Province were studied. Of the 25 major types of nematocysts recognized in the phylum of Cnidaria, two types were encountered in these three corals. Two major types of holotrichous isorhizas (HI) and microbasic p-mastigophores (MpM) were observed in P. eydouxi and P. woodjonesi, and only one type of microbasic p-mastigophore (MpM) was observed in P. verrucosa. The nematocyst composition of P. eydouxi was similar to that of P. woodjonesi, but markedly different from that of P. verrucosa. The size of HI was different between P. eydouxi and P. woodjonesi, and also the size of MpM was different between P. verrucosa and P. eydouxi or P. woodjonesi. The present observation showed that nematocyst composition and dimension might be varied among these three corals. It is suggested that the differences in the nematocysts could be used in the classification of corals. Keywords: Pocillopora eydouxi, Pocillopora woodjonesi, Pocillopora verrucosa, nematocysts, holotrichous isorhizas (HI), microbasic p- mastigophore (MpM).

Abstract

In order to look at changes in coral and reef fish communities during the period of 2006 to 2013, this research was carried out at Bunaken National Park (BNP) with 26 observation sites. The existing data and information of reef fish communities in the park generally could not be used as representative for describing the whole region. Percentage of coral cover and fish abundance during the study period shows that Bunaken Island is more similar to other locations. Reef fish community structure as seen from ecological index (H' at all sites being categorized, E category labile and low category C) shows the condition of the reef fish community is still good. Changes in the structure of reef fish communities showed declining conditions compared to 2006, and coral cover continued to decrease compared to 1998 and 2007. Good overall reef fish and coral cover have decreased; it is thought to be related to the pressure in BNP. Some of the pressures in the region were (i) increasing numbers of domestic as well as foreign visitors, (ii) increasing number of residents in the region, as well as the burden of waste and trash from the Bay of Manado.

Abstract

Lihaga Island is located in West Likupang District, North Minahasa Regency. When the Likupang area has been designated as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), and one of the five super priority tourist destinations based on Government Regulation Number 84 of 2019. This indicates that the waters of Lihaga Island will become a diving tourism destination. Data on the abundance and diversity of reef fish in these waters need to be known. The method used in this research is the Underwater Visual Census. The data obtained is then analyzed for abundance index, diversity index, uniformity index and dominance index using the Microsoft Excel program. The results show that reef fish in the waters of Lihaga Island are categorized as abundant, according to Djamali and Darsoono. (2005) with the number found > 50 individuals, dominated by the species Chromis margaritifer from the family Pomacentridae or commonly known as 'damselfishes'. The results of the analysis were based on the total number of reef fish recorded at 3 observation stations, namely the abundance index scored 1,780 ind/m2, the diversity index was in the high category with a value of H`>3.0 which was 3.15, then the uniformity index was included in the unstable category with a value <0.75. which is 0.73 and the dominance index value is categorized as low with a value of 0.10 or <0.50.  Keywords: Likupang, Lihaga Island, reef fish, underwater visual census.
