Abstract

The aim of this research is to measure the implementation of authentic materials in improving students’ reading comprehension of the eighth grade students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri Sausu. This research used quasi-experimental design.  It treated two classes namely experimental and control class. This quasi experimental research took 34 students of grade VIII B for the experimental class and 32 students of grade VIII A for the control. In choosing class to be a sample, this study used purposive sampling technique. This study used research instrument to collect data, namely questionnaire items and test. The result of data analysis indicate that the students’ mean score of the posttest is 66.9 in experimental class is higher than the mean score of the control class 52.5. It means that the students’ reading comprehension is improved because of  implementing the authentic materials since the mean score of pretest is significantly different from the mean score of posttest. In conclusion, the implementation of Authentic Materials can improve students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research aims at proving that the use of SQ4R method improves the critical reading ability of the grade XI MIA of MAN 1 Sausu. The method used in this research was quasi-experimental research design. The sample of the research was selected by using purposive sampling technique, in which the researcher intentionally chose grade XI MIA 2 as experimental class and XI MIA 4 as control class. The instruments of data collection were questionnaire items, interview items and tests. The data were analyzed by using t-test statistical and descriptive methods. Based on the results of the tests, the mean score of the experimental class is 80.38, while the mean score of the control class is 71.  Furthermore, based on the result of questionnaire, there were 96% students decided the implementation of SQ4R method had given contribution to improve their thinking and reading critical ability, then considered that the practice of SQ4R method was very effective for them. In other words, applying SQ4R method affects students’ critical reading comprehension of the grade XI MIA of MAN 1 Sausu

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to find out whether using speech can improve the students’ pronunciation at the eleventh grade of SMA N 10 Pulau Taliabu or not. The researchers used speech as a medium to improve the students’ pronunciation in this research. They employed pre-experimental research with one group for pre-test and post-test. The research population was the eleventh-grade students of SMA N 10 Pulau Taliabu. The sample of this research was all of the students at the eleventh-grade that consist of 30 students. Then, the data were analysed statistically. According to the findings of the research, the use of speech is effective to improve the EFL students’ pronunciation at the eleventh grade students of SMA N 10 Pulau Taliabu. This result is proved through the  t–counted (19.17) was higher than the t-table (1.70113) by applying 0.05 level significance and degree of freedom (df) 29.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the meaning and function of expressions using emotes in the Mobile Legends game. The object of this research is the Mobile Legends game. The research data is in the form of emotes in the game and grouped using Pierce's semiotic approach (Representation, object and interpretant), then data analysis is carried out by describing the meaning of emotes in the Mobile Legends game. The results found that there are several functions of emote markers such as expression markers of praise, ridicule, surprise /surprised, recognizing greatness, and frustration increasing enthusiasm, 'being stupid/don't care. There are several communication systems in the Mobile Legend game including: 1) Chat column feature, 2) Quick chat feature, 3) Direct conversation feature. , and 4) Emotes. Of these four features, the emote feature is most widely used in communication when playing the Mobile Legends game. This emote feature is a form of communication that combines several elements, namely images, text, movement and sound. This certainly creates a more interesting playing atmosphere.
