Abstract

Paddy farming has been affected by climate change phenomena such as high rainfall and long dry seasons which have caused plant and crop failure. To minimize the impact of climate change on their farming, paddy farmers undertake various strategies for dynamically adapting to climate change. This study aimed to analyze and assess the dynamics of the mitigation response by paddy farmers in West Java to minimize the impact of climate change. The object of research was paddy farmers in West Java. The research sample was selected using a multi-stage cluster random sampling technique to collect 300 respondents. Data analysis methods used descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis of variance (manova). The results showed that paddy farmers in West Java have dynamically mitigated climate change along with climate change over time. Types of climate change mitigation response applied by the majority of paddy farmers in West Java included planting shading trees, using energy saving technologies, cultivating organic agriculture, planting different crops instead of rice, changing farming to animal husbandry, migrating, looking for other income sources outside farming and renting/selling their land. Other mitigation responses that have rarely applied but interesting to explore were of shifting the planting and harvesting periods, selecting planting varieties, adapting plantation patterns and irrigation techniques. Farmers in Subang District who applied the most four types of climate change mitigation response earned higher income greater than those in Indramayu and Karawang.

Abstract

The impact of climate change on the agricultural sector, especially rice, has been very pronounced. Rice farmers in Indonesia who are mostly small farmers, are certainly the first to be affected by the risks of climate change. The study aims to analyze and compare the level of climate change hazard, vulnerability and risk to rice farmers in West Java and East Java. This study used a total of 600 farmers from West Java and East Java who were determined using a multistage stratified random sampling technique. The data analysis technique used was the analysis model for the climate change hazard, vulnerabilityy and risk level and the Mann-Whitney U test. The results showed that rice farmers in West Java had a significantly greater level of climate change hazards than rice farmers in East Java, but the level of climate change vulnerability for rice farmers in West Java is significantly lower than that of rice farmers in East Java. The results of climate change risk level analysis show that there is no significant difference between West Java and East Java farmers in terms of the level of climate change risk. Both have low to moderate levels of climate change risk.

Abstract

Advancements in technology and information drive changes in economic activity, one of which is marked by the emergence of electronic marketplace applications. Electronic marketplace applications specifically for food products are not growing rapidly compared to other electronic marketplace applications, including Agree Mart. This study extends the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) theory and user trust to determine the behavior of Agree Mart application users. This study aims to describe the behavior of users of the Agree Mart electronic marketplace application. This study uses a quantitative method assisted by the application of SMART PLS 4 with descriptive analysis techniques and simple random sampling techniques. The respondents of this study were 72 respondents who were users of the Agree Mart application. The results showed that the level of acceptance of electronic marketplace technology for food products was in a good category.
