Abstract

Cohesion has become a crucial component of academic writing that promotes the semantic connection within phrases and sentences. The objectives of this literature review research are to identify different forms of cohesions and the most common form of cohesion in articles on EFL academic writing. This study extracted records from Google Scholar and Scopus databases and selected 20 studies in the last five years out of 700 on the use of cohesions in the writing of EFL students. The data was gathered by sorting similar messages, finding cohesions, clarifying cohesions, and counting the cohesions with the highest percentage. The research results show that the published articles containing cohesions represent the reference (35%), paired conjunctions (15%), reiteration (40%), and collocation (10%). The most common type of cohesion is reiteration, which is essential for comprehending what the authors mean in their published works. Cohesions in theoretical and practical grounds contribute to the explicitness of semantic components of words or phrases to generate the messages conveyed to readers.

Abstract

Child-friendly education is an important program that provides children from various socio-cultural and ethnic backgrounds with safe, comfortable, and nonviolent learning activities at the family, school, and community.  This community service-based article aims to describe (1) the fundamental reasons for revitalizing child-friendly education and (2) the critical principles and elements that allow children to develop their potential in the digital age fully. This program used a dialogic approach to deliver the topic under discussion, involving twenty participants, including parents and teenagers, in Mlese, Klaten Regency, Central Java Province, Indonesia. The dialogic interaction takes the form of (1) presenting material related to child-friendly education in the digital age, (2) investigating problems in small groups based solely on subtopics, and (3) openly discussing solutions to such problems. The results of data analysis from this interactive dialogue affirmed that human-to-human oral interactions enable problem-solving. Children can develop essential values of honesty, dignity, respect, and safety when key ideas and components of child-friendly education are incorporated into their school, schools and community-based platforms.

Abstract

Several factors influence the administration of cooperative learning courses, including the learning model, collaboration, social behavior and attitude, and heterogeneity. This study aims to identify the factors that assist or impede the implementation of cooperative learning courses in two Elementary School Teacher Education Departments (PGSD) involving 40 students. The researchers used an approach known as purposeful sampling, in which they selected the sample by identifying particular features that were consistent with their research objectives and were expected to be able to provide solutions to research problems. This research was conducted at two private universities in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A qualitative descriptive questionnaire was used to collect information on the supporting and inhibiting variables of cooperative learning. Grades in Indonesian language classes have been correlated with a group effort in completing assignments (78.75%). A contributing component, the students' propensity for cooperative learning in the academic appreciation course (78%), emerges subsequently. Another aspect is the desire to complete the assignment (77.25%). Furthermore, factors that encourage cooperative learning are investigated. More suitable media facilities are essential (75%), given that the brilliant students predominate (80.75%) but familiarize themselves with cooperative learning. These facts imply that cooperative learning lays the foundation for academy students' participation, engagement, and problem-solving to be implemented during the learning and teaching processes.
