Abstract

Nipa Palm fronds is one of the biomass that has potential to be used as briquettes because it has high cellulose. The calorific value of nypa palm frond will cause low briquettes quality. The aims of this study is to determine the effect of the addition of coconut shell charcoal. The research method used was by mixing coconut shell charcoal with nipa palm charcoal with various compositions and using tapioca flour as an adhesive as much as 10% of the total weight of briquettes. It was found that the addition of coconut shell charcoal can improve the quality of briquettes according to SNI No.1/6235/2000 with the best composition ratio palm charcoal:coconut shell charcoal which is 20%:80%. Briquettes have a moisture content 2,43%, ash content 7,3%, a calorific value 6779,64 Kal/gram, density 1 gram/cm2 and a burning rate of 0,0393 gram/minute.

Abstract

Population growth and settlements have significant consequences on basic problems. One of the main problems that arises and needs to be planned is waste problem. Large amount of unhandling landfill causes various problems, both directly and indirectly for the city population, especially the community members in Desa Maos Lor, Dusun Tengah RW 11 who own a Waste Bank. The problem from Waste Bank is the organic waste that is not utilized and managed optimally, instead it is allowed to accumulate and rot, so it pollutes the environment. The potential method for handling organic waste is by applying anaerobic composter technology to produce fertilizer or compost, which is a swing composter. The composition in the swing composter consists of husk as the base, compost as the starter, fine organic waste (in the form of residual waste or kitchen waste), then it is covered with husk. To speed up the occurrence of decay, the kitchen waste is chopped into small size. Then, the composter is swung 5 to 10 times for mixing it with microorganisms. Next step is letting the swing composter for 4 months. Liquid organic fertilizer and solid organic fertilizer can be used by residents of Desa Maos Lor Dusun Tengah RW 11 to grow crops.

Abstract

Most of the people in Kuripan Kidul village, which is located in the southern part of Cilacap, work as farmers. The crops are mainly vegetables and fruit. The crops are sold directly to the markets near the village. The crops are regarded satisfactory in amount, but in the next year, the crops are decreasing due to pest in the land. One of the easiest and quickest way to solve the problem is by applying pesticide onto the land. Since the people are lack of information on the type, characteristic, and effect of pesticide, the residue of the pesticide is still in the crops, especially in fruit and vegetables. To help the people deal with the problem, the writers conducted counseling in forms of presentation and demonstration on the characteristic and effect of the pesticide through community service program (PKM). Some aspects that are put into priority in this program are comprehension acpect on the residue dose procedure information (maximum limit) of pesticide regarding the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 7313:2008 and method in reducing residue of the pesticide in food material, especially in fruit and vegetables. Low level of education level causes lack of information on the appropriate use of pesticide dose in fruit and vegetables. Moreover, the people do not completely aware on the effect of pesticide use on the crops, especially fruit and vegetables, before they are consumed. One thing that still puts the writers into concern is the residue of the pesticide is still on the fruit and vegetables, so the writers focus on all people in the village, especially housewives that play important role in organizing and processing food material (fruit and vegetables) before it is consumed. Some solutions of the problem come up. One of them is by giving counseling through detailed presentation on the residue dose procedure (maximum limit) of the pesticide on the crops that is in line with Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 7313:2008 and by doing demonstration on the method in reducing residue of the pesticide in fruit and vegetables by utilizing salt solution. Salt solution is made by mixing baking soda, vinegar (apple cider vinegar), turmeric water, or salt. The counseling aims to educate people, especially housewives, to know and understand healthy way before consuming fruit and vegetables, and to support government program to make better and healthier Indonesians.

Abstract

The rapid population growth in Indonesia has an impact on increasing the amount of waste or household waste. Waste is the result of community activities so it should be instilled that waste management is a shared responsibility. According to the Central Statistics Agency of Indonesia, the amount of waste in 2020 in 384 cities in Indonesia will reach 80,235.87 tons every day. From the waste generated, it is estimated that 4.2% will be transported to the Final Disposal Site, 37.6% will be burned, disposed of into the river by 4.9% and untreated around 53.3%. One effort that has been made in Tambakreja Village, South Cilacap District, Cilacap Regency, Central Java through the use of household waste that is processed as compost to create a reduction in pollution to the environment. The waste or waste management program in Tambakreja Village RW 08 has been started since early 2014, namely processing waste in community settlements by launching a Waste Bank program called Bank Sampah Mandiri "Subur" (BSM Subur). However, because the program has just begun, the program has not gone according to plan. The low community participation in this program is one of the obstacles. In this village does not yet have a Final Shelter so that most of the population provides a monthly retribution fee for the collection of household waste that will be taken to the temporary disposal site. Waste originating from household activities is usually discharged directly without treatment, sometimes even waste from plantations and agriculture is directly burned in the yard. This is will cause negative impacts in the form of environmental pollution. This program is carried out to increase community participation in waste management by providing knowledge as well as assistance on the importance of holistic environmental management so that people can have the habit of reducing and anticipating environmental pollution that is around them. The results of this program showed that the community began to care about the garbage in their homes, care about their own health and the environment through community activities carried out continuously and began to be open in managing waste to prevent the burning of garbage in their environment.

The increasing population in Banjarwaru village is also accompanied by increasing food needs, where the community must be able to develop a food crop cultivation system that is more efficient and easier to carry out. In Banjarwaru village, there are Posyandu cadres and PKK cadres from 8 hamlets who are very active in carrying out programs to increase food security independently in an effort to prevent stunting. One is cultivating catfish in buckets (budikdamber) and organic vegetables. This cultivation will produce food and fish waste, which can be used as nutrients in aquaponic vegetables. This program aims to provide information, training, and assistance regarding the use of catfish cultivation waste (budikdamber) using red spinach in aquaponics and minimizing the waste content from budikdamber. This series of activities will take place from April-August 2023 at the Banjarwaru Village Hall. The participants in this activity were Posyandu and PKK cadres, along with village officials. The method of this activity begins with socialization, training on cultivating fish and vegetables in buckets, and distributing questionnaires based on the results of this activity. From the results of this activity, it was discovered that the Posyandu and PKK women cadres obtained information regarding the use of catfish cultivation waste in buckets (budikdamber) to provide nutrition to red spinach using an aquaponics system.
