Abstract

Moringa and brown seaweed (T. conoides) are known as natural ingredients that are good for the human body. One of them was a good bioactive component as a cosmetic. Research on the combination of these two ingredients has never been done. The aims of this study were to determine the best sunscreen cream from the combination of Moringa leaves and T conoides. In this study, several stages were carried out, namely the production of seaweed porridge and Moringa leaf powder,  and formulation of cream preparations with the ratio treatment of T. conoides. and Moringa, namely 1:1 (S), 1:2 (T), 2:1 (U) and control/without treatment (R). The tests included antioxidant and evaluation of physical parameters of sunscreen cream preparations. Evaluation of physical parameters included centrifugal test, emulsion type, globule diameter, and organoleptic. Antioxidant activity test showed that cream S was significantly different (p<0.005) from cream T and cream U, and it was strong antioxidant activity. The centrifugal test for all treatments showed that all cream preparations were stable because there was no phase separation. The type of emulsion in all treatments was O/W. The diameter of the globules in all treatments had sizes that were still within the allowable range. The organoleptic results on the color and aroma parameters of each cream were not significantly different (p<0.005) in all treatments. These results are different from the appearance parameters because cream S and T are significantly different (p<0.005). Cream S is the best cream in this study from the antioxidant activity and all evaluation parameters.

Abstract

Green seaweed is one of the leading marine products from the Riau Islands Province. Types of green seaweed such as Caulerpa microphysa and Codium sp. have potential as functional and pharmaceutical food, but their utilization is not optimal in the Riau Islands region. This study aims to examine the proximate characteristics of seaweed types C. microphysa and Codium sp. The method used in this research is seaweed sampling in the coastal of Natuna and Tanjungpinang, which are the Riau Islands region with abundant green seaweed commodities. The next method is the proximate analysis of dried seaweed, which includes analysis of water content, ash, protein, fat, and carbohydrates and calculating the total energy and energy from fat. The results showed that the proximate content of C. microphysa and Codium sp. respectively for moisture content was 19.88 ± 0.14 and 11.29 ± 0.08%, the ash content was 30.74 ± 0.27 and 55.51 ± 0.41%, protein is 8.97 ± 0.08 and 6.84 ± 0.12%, total fat is 1.20 ± 0.01 and 1.09 ± 0.01%, carbohydrates are 39.22 ± 0.32 and 25.28 ± 0.37%, energy from fat is 10.76 ± 0.06 and 9.77 ± 0.06 Kcal / 100g, total energy is 203.49 ± 1.68 and 138.23 ± 2.02 Kcal / 100g. These results indicate that the type of seaweed C. microphysa is better than Codium sp. in chemical composition and total energy.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to obtain the best sodium alginate extract from Padina sp. with different potassium hydroxide concentration. Padina sp. was collected in coastal Senggarang, Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands Province. The raw material of Padina sp. was extraction by potassium hydroxide with different concentration (0.6%, 0.8%, 1%).  We analyzed content of moisture, ash, yield, viscosity and pH. The best results obtained in the treatment with  a solution of KOH concentration 0,8% with content of moisture 10,87%, ash 31,24%, yield 17,82%, viscosity 275,50 cP and pH 8,21.

Abstract

Seaweed has bioactive components that are very much needed in cosmetic preparations, in addition to seaweed, natural ingredients that can be used are kencur (Kaempferia galanga). This study aims to determine the best combination of B. forbesii seaweed porridge and kencur (K. galanga) powder as a body scrub preparation from the results of antioxidant activity and physical evaluation. This research was conducted by looking at the difference in concentration between B. forbesii and kencur (K. galanga) seaweed with a ratio of 1:1 (R1 cream), 1:2 (R2 cream), and 2:1 (R3 cream) and without the addition of seaweed. and Moringa (R0). The cream preparation was then tested for antioxidants and physical evaluation of the preparation included pH, homogeneity, centrifugal test, and organoleptic observations. The test results showed that all formulations of body scrub cream which were given B. forbesii seaweed porridge and kencur (K. galanga) powder had weak antioxidant activity. The results of the evaluation of physical preparations showed good results for the skin, but the formulation of R2 cream which is the best cream seen from the overall evaluation results

Abstract

Ulva lactuca contains various bioactive compounds, and has been developed by many recent researchers into cosmetic products, especially for skin. In addition, other types of plants that can be used for cosmetics, namely Aloe vera which has lots of nutrients and vitamins for the skin. This study aims to obtain the best body lotion formulation from U. lactuca and A. vera based on thwphysical evaluation. The process of making body lotion consists of two stages, namely the oil phase and the water phase, then homogenized at 70-75°C. The formulation in the study varied with the addition of U. lactuca and A. vera with a ratio of 1:2 (F1), 1:1 (F2), 2:1 (F3) and F0 as a control treatment. The body lotion formulation with a ratio of 1:2 (F2) has a good moisture level for the skin and a pH value that is suitable for the skin, and all treatments have spreadability that meets the standards. All treatments have an oil-in-water emulsion type. In centrifugal testing no phase is formed. The organoleptic test results for all products ranged from moderate to like. The results of this study indicate that the F1 formulation is the best formulation of all treatments because it has a good pH and moisture value for the skin.
