Abstract

Mobile technologies enable both education and science lecturers to provide the educational materials to their students on mobile technologies. But many science and education lectures educators were likely not using mobile technology to its maximum potential. The objectives were to examine the relationship between science and education lecturers and the effect of specialisation in the use of mobile technologies for instruction. The study was a descriptive research of survey type. 160 respondents were randomly selected for this study from the faculty of science and education. Frequency, percentage, multiple regression, and ANOVA were used for the analysis. The findings established that a positive relationship exists between science and education lecturers in the use of mobile technologies for instruction. It was recommended that lecturers should be encouraged to explore different ways in which mobile technologies can be used in teaching and learning.

Abstract

Virtual reality is an emerging technology designed to provide interaction between a user and artificially generated environments. However, most teachers in Nigeria are not aware of how virtual reality can be widely used for educational purposes. The study investigated (i) awareness of teachers towards the use of virtual reality for instructional purpose and influence of gender and experience on teachers’ awareness of virtual reality for instructional purpose. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. 360 computer teachers were sampled from secondary schools across Kwara State with the use of researchs-developed questionnaire. The findings established that Virtual Bicycle and 3D Map world are the virtual reality facilities which most respondents are of aware for instructional purpose; and there was no significant difference between teachers’ awareness of VR for instructional purpose based on gender and experience. It was thus recommended that seminars and training could also be organised for teachers on how to use VR to facilitate their teaching in and outside the classroom environment. Keywords: awareness; computer teachers; virtual reality; gender; experience; instructional purposes.

Abstract

This project is about the design and construction of a 220 volts inverter at a frequency of 50Hz. The device is constructed with locally sourced components and materials of regulated standards. The basic principle of its operation is a simple conversion of 12V DC from a battery using integrated circuits and semiconductors at a frequency of 50Hz, into a 220V AC across the windings of a transformer. A battery charger is used to charge the battery using an intelligent digital display charger. This project (device) offers a better alternative to Public Power Supply, Generators as well as UPS considering it is cost-effective, noiseless, and easy maintainability. It was concluded that the inverter was constructed with considerable cost, available and reliable components rather than the more exorbitant unavailable ones. It was however recommended that the Government at various levels should encourage engineering practice by financing and training engineering within and outside the country for the benefit of the students and the nation at large.

Abstract

Technology development in the modern era assists teachers in creating a collaborative learning environment. Despite the effectiveness of audio-visual materials in teaching and learning, there are still some hinderances in its usage. This study investigated the effects of audio-visual aids on students’ academic performance in social studies in junior secondary schools. This study is an experimental study and the sample comprised of 50 junior secondary schools. The audio-visual was in powerpoint format with concepts of marriage as material of the social studies. Students were given test questions after been taught with the Audio-visual and the results of the test are indicators of their academic performance.  Analysis of the data was carried out using analysis of t-test analysis. The findings established that audio-visual aids had positive effect on students’ performance and there is no significant difference between the performance of male and female students taught using audio-visual aids. This study concluded that audio-visual method of teaching had positive effect on student's academic performance. Thus, this implies that the conventional method of teaching is less effective and performance oriented. It was however recommended that adequate supervision, monitoring and the use of audio-visual in teaching social studies by teachers of the schools should be encouraged and given adequate attention.
