Abstract

Teaching reading functional vocabulary to students with intellectual disability (ID’s) is a challenge for teachers in special schools. They face many obstacles in teaching vocabulary which are caused by various factors, especially student characteristics and learning structures that are less practical and tend to be academic. This study aims to measure the effectiveness of using word cards and picture cards to improve vocabulary reading skills in moderate ID’s students. The type of research applied is single subject research, with multiple baseline across subject designs. The research subjects were two moderately ID’s students in grade 5 and grade 2 SLB-C1 Bhakti Luhur Malang. An instructor and an observer played an important role in this study. The experimental instrument used is Lesson Plan which consists of three units, each teaching two vocabularies. Data analysis is carried out by performing graphical inspections that focus on trend, latency, and level changes. The effectiveness was confirmed by Percentage of All Non-overlapping Data (PAND) in the intervention condition against the baseline-1 condition. The results showed that with the intervention, the target behavior in the form of vocabulary understanding had a trend of grades rising gradually touching a high level of score, and settling at a high level in the baseline-2 condition. The average PAND for subject-1 reached 80.55 percent (effective), and subject-2 reached 96.67 percent (very effective).

Abstract

The ability to read is the most basic competency to master competencies in other subjects. Learning to read which was carried out at Elementary School for Children with Special Needs (SDLB) YPAC Malang City found that one out of three  students of Cerebral Palsy in 1st class had problems with early reading. One of the causes of not optimal students' reading ability is because teachers tend to only use printed books. Appropriate and interesting media is needed so that students can have reading skills as expected. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of pabami media to improve early reading skills in students of Cerebral Palsy in the 1st class at SDLB YPAC Malang. This research is a classroom action research designed in 2 cycles, each cycle consists of 3 meetings. The learning media used is pabami which is equipped with cards of letter, syllable, and word. Data were collected by observation and test techniques. Pabami media is declared effective if the posttest results in the second cycle are higher than the posttest scores in the first cycle, with learning mastery indicators reaching a value of 75 or more. The results of the study concluded that pabami media was effective for improving early reading skills of students with cerebral palsy.

Abstract

Students with intellectual disabilities have limited thinking, especifically in abstract. That is the main factor causing the low learning achievement specifically in the field of arithmetic (mathematics). The selection of learning media that is suitable for the characteristics of intellectual disabilities is very important to bridge the abstract and concrete so that it is easy to understand. Media “dekak-dekak” becomes one of the learning media that is used in the sum operations for student with intellectual disability. The purpose of this study is to measure the effectiveness of the use of media “dekak-dekak” in the sum operation 1-10 for mild intellectual disability students in the 1st grade of Special School. This research is a class action research, which limits effectiveness based on the completeness minimum criteria (KKM) of 75 value points. A student, class teacher, and an observer participated in this study. The results of the study recorded the value of 50 points in the pre-cycle, the value of 70 points in the first cycle, and the value of 80 points in the second cycle. Thus, the media "dekak-dekak" effectively to be applied to the learning of the sum operations 1-10 for students with mild intellectual disabilities.

Abstract

Scouting activities are activities that internalize good values for students. Although scouts are extracurricular, most of the content of the activities is in the form of instilling pro-social attitudes and actions needed by students as a young generation. Pro-social attitudes are concerned with sharing, cooperating, helping, being honest, generosity, and considering the rights and welfare of others. This study aims to describe the perception of SMPK Bhakti Luhur Malang students towards the contribution of strengthening pro-social attitudes in scout activities, as an effort to prevent violence. The research method applied is a mix method, which combines quantitative approaches to describe student perceptions and qualitative approaches as supporting data. All 28 grade VIII and IX students were respondents, and 4 people consisting of scout leaders, homeroom teachers, and principals became informants in this study. Data were collected using questionnaires referring to the Likert Scale model and interview guide. Quantitative data were analyzed using percentages and graphs, while qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman approach. The results stated that students' perceptions of sharing attitudes obtained a score of 79.9%, cooperation and help 82.6%, honesty 70.3%, generosity 76.1%, attention to the rights of others 76.6%, with an average of 78.0% (very high contribution). These results are confirmed by the results of qualitative research which states that between students various toys and stationery, cooperate in helping friends, especially those with special needs, be generous by sharing provisions with other students, empathize with others. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of implementing a multilayer model in lesson plan (LP) to increase the vocabulary knowledge of deaf students. This study is single-subject research with an A-B-A design (baseline-intervention-maintenance). The intervention instrument used was a LP that consisted of four units, each containing four words taught using multilayers. The instrument was validated and scored 4.6 on a scale of 1-5. The subjects who participated in the study were two students with severe deafness. Two teachers and two observers were involved in this study. The data were analyzed by inspecting the graph, intracondition, and intercondition. The percentage of non-overlapping data (PND) from the inter-condition was used to indicate the effectiveness of the intervention. It was found that the mean value of PND B/A for all LP from subject-1 was 96.25%, and from subject-2 was 100%. Thus, the multilayer model is very effective in improving vocabulary knowledge. The mean of PND A/B was 93.75%, and subject-2 achieved 89.87%, which means that the subject's vocabulary knowledge is maintained even without intervention.
