Abstract

Pure honey has a good nutrient content and it is also believed it has healthy peculiar property. Coffee plants are one of the plants that are good in honey bees breeding.  Honey which is produced from the nectar of coffee flower price selling is relatively high.  In order to increase the value added of honey of coffee flower, the researchers in package design were needed to get the best one. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of image and packaging design either simultaneously or partially into purchasing decisions of pure honey consumers. Based on this research, it is known that an ideal packaging material for honey of coffee flower is a bottle compared to flexible packaging. The reason is functional: the bottle packaging is capable to fulfill its function as an efficient and effective packaging. In graphic design, the packaging of pure honey that preferred by the panelists is the packaging that has more colors contrast between its base colors and layout of the flower of coffee whereas the size of a font is already good because it is clearly legible.

Abstract

Coffee is the second priority and is nationally leading commodity aimed to increase export  as well as  to improve added values of national production in order to gain high compatibility in the international level. The development of coffee plantation in Indonesia focuses on the increased proportion of arabica coffee. The technology offered is to establish the superior characteristics of robusta coffee (lowland habitats) and that of arabica coffee (highland habitats) into a single crop named robbica cofffee. The idiotype of arabica crops has not been studied at the low and moderate altitude of land.            The study uses a randomized block design arranged at a split-plot, where two altitude act as the main-plot (10 m and 500 m above sea level) and ten genotypes of arabica coffee as the sub-plot (five genotypes of arabica and five genotypes of robbica), with three replicates and four crops for each experimental unit. The sample crops are located  at the centre of the plot (two crops for each experimental unit). Variables observed are plant height (cm), stem diameter (mm), are of a couple of leaf (cm2), weight of a couple of leaf (gram), the number of stomata, the level of leaf greeness, the content of leaf chlorophile (A and B), and nitrate reductase activity.            Result of variance analysis showed that genotypes significantly affect plant height, stem diameter, area of a couple of leaf, weight of a couple of leaf, and the number of stomata. The level of leaf greeness, and the number of chlorophile (A and B) show insignificant responses genotypes. The study conclude that the idiotype of arabica coffee, i.e. that is having a combination of robusta and arabica performs better than pure arabica, the habitat of moderate altitude is more favourable than that lowland, and the cultivation of arabica at the moderate altitude requires a modification of enviroment by plantibg the shade plant from leguminosae family.

Abstract

[EFFECT OF WEED COMPOST AND SYNTHETIC FERTILIZER DOSAGE ON TOMATO GROWTH AND YIELD (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.)]. The growth and yield of tomato plants are influenced by fertilizer and nutrient content in the soil. This study aims to investigate the effect of a combination of synthetic fertilizer and weed compost on the growth and yield of tomato plants. The study was conducted in November 2016 through June 2017 in Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, at an altitude of ± 10 m above sea level using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The treatments consisted of  synthetic fertilizer at a rate of  180 kg/ha N, 150 kg/ha P2O5 and 100 kg/ha K2O (control), grass compost 30 , 40 and 50 tons/ha, 50% control + grass compost 15 tons/ha, 50% control + 20 tons/ha grass compost and 50% control + 25 tons/ha grass compost. The results revealed that the vegetative growth of tomato plants fertilized with grass compost 30 tons/ha and a combination of grass compost + 50% control did not differ from control treatment. Tomato yield fertilized with grass compost 30 tons/ha and a combination of 50% control + 15 tons/ha grass compost was higher than the control treatment. Therefore, 15 tons/ha of grass compost can reduce the dose of synthetic fertilizer by 50%.

Abstract

[GROWTH APPEARANCE AND YIELD OF FIVE TOMATO HYBRIDS ON ULTISOL AND PEATLANDS].  Ultisol and peat are included in marginal land that can support the growth and development of plants. This study was aimed to compare the growth and yield of five tomato hybrids on ultisol and peatlands. The experiments were carried out in the field with the soil type of on ultisol and peats.  The experiment was arranged in a Randomized Completely Block Design with 3 replications. The hybrids evaluated were UNB-1 × UNB-2, UNB-3 × UNB-1, UNB-2 × UNB-1, and UNB-2 × UNB-3, and Sinta as a control hybrid.  The results showed that in ultisol lands, the diversities among genotypes were observed in some variables, including the age of flowering, a number of fruits per plant, fruit diameter, fruit weight per plant, and fruit sweetness level.  On the peatlands, a significant diversity was observed in plant height, age of flowering, age of harvest, fruit weight per plant, number of flowers per bunch. Based on this evaluation in the Ultisol soil, the yield of UNB2 × UNB1 was higher than control (Sinta genotype), whereas, in peat, the growth and yield components of UNB2 × UNB3 is the best and Sinta hybrid as a control genotypes showed the highest yield among other genotypes.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui respon pertumbuhan berbagai genotipe kopi arabika di dataran tinggi Jang Hiang Bong dan mendapatkan genotipe kopi arabika potensial untuk dibudiayakan pada dataran tinggi Jang Hiang Bong. Percobaan ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Lengkap yang dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Universitas Pat Petulai. Parameter yang diamati dalam penelitian ini adalah tinggi tanaman, diameter batang, luas kanopi, luas sepasang daun, dan jumlah cabang produktif. Secara keseluruhan, hasil penelitian menunjukkan setiap genotipe menampilkan respon pertumbuhan yang berbeda-beda. Respon pertumbuhan terbaik didapatkan pada perlakuan G6 (Genotipe M-97), yang menunjukkan pengaruh positif terhadap tinggi tanaman, luas kanopi, dan jumlah cabang produktif. Semua perlakuan menunjukkan respon yang tidak berbeda nyata terhadap diameter batang dan luas sepasang daun.

Abstract

Chili development in Indonesia faces several constraints, mainly low yields and disease incidents.  The improvement of chili traits through breeding programs requires information of genetic diversity, heritability,  genetic advance and gene role. A study was conducted to assess the values of variability and heritability of qualitative and quantitative traits of 20 genotypes of chilli plants. The study was conducted in May-September 2015 on Experimental Field of Faculty of Agriculture, the University of Bengkulu. The 20 chili genotypes were arranged factorially in a Randomized Complete Block Design, with three replications. The results showed that the qualitative characters that have broad sense of variability and heritability were plant height, days to flower, time to harvest, fruit length, fruit diameter, fruit weight, and weight of fruit per plant, indicating that a selection can be done on those variables. Variability on qualitative characters was found on the position of the flower stalk (3 kinds), corolla color (4 kinds), color of corolla holder (3 kinds), corolla shapes (2 kinds), anther colors (4 kinds), pistil colors (3 kinds), colors of young fruit and ripe fruit (3 kinds), and fruit position (3 kinds).

Abstract

Community service activities have been carried out in the Permu Village, Kepahiang Subdistrict, Kepahiang District. The target group is the group of mothers who take shelter Permu village in the "Tik Kerto". The purpose of this activity is to increase the number and improve the quality of coffee of Permu Village. The activities carried out by the method of illumination and field practice, transfer of technology, and promotion of products. Results show that a group of mothers who take the activities of in the village Permu Tik Kerto group are very enthusiastic and improving the quantity and quality of coffee products of Permu Village. Technology transfer processing using the ground coffee roaster machine is responded well and the quality of the resulting coffee powder are in accordance with SNI 01-3542-2004, the national standard of coffee. The conclusion of this activity is the formation of industry groups Tik Kerto coffee, coffee quality after transfer of technology is better than before, Permu Village coffee product of group of mothers Tik Kerto is improved. Suggestions for next years, implementation of the PPM complement of the activities carry out infrastructure and facilities for the production of ground coffee of Permu Village. Keywords: Coffee, Quantity and Quality Improvement, Permu Village

Abstract

Pengabdian peningkatan produktivitas dan produktivitas kopi di Desa Rindu Hati melalui optimalisasi alat petani bertujuan tentang kadar air biji kopi berbasis teknologi dielektrometer yang dilakukan untuk melakukan koordinasi dan sosialisasi kopi dan koordinasi pengumpul kadar air biji kopi. Metode yang diterapkan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) untuk menyebarkan informasi dalam kelompok tani dan pedagang pengumpul biji kopi. Kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan di Desa Rindu Hati Kabupaten Bengkulu Tengah Provinsi Bengkulu dengan khalayak sasaran kelompok tani simpang jernih dengan anggota kelompok berkumpul 20 orang dan pedagang pengumpul biji kopi.Pengabdian yang sesuai dengan koordinasi dan sosialisasi terhadap air kopi untuk meningkatkan produktivitas petani kopi. Target capaian dari kegiatan yang dilakukan adalah adanya peningkatan pemahaman kelompok tani simpang jernih tentang menentukan kadar air kopi. peningkatkan pemahaman petani kopi dan pedagang pengumpul biji kopi dalam menentukan kadar air biji kopi melalui pendeteksian kadar air berbasis teknologi dielektrometer.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat yang diterapkan adalah penggunaan alat pengukur kadar air biji-bijian termasuk kopi yang telah dikalibrasi agar memiliki akurasi yang tinggi.  Kalibrasi alat dilakukan agar nilai yang terbaca oleh alat dapat mendekati kadar air kopi biji sebenarnya yang ditetapkan melalui pengeringan dalam oven sehingga mampu menyelesaikan masalah yang dihadapi khalayak sasaran. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman terhadap khalayak sasaran secara teknis akan pentingnya pengukuran kadar air kopi biji sebelum dilakukan penjualan dengan menggunakan alat pengukur kadar air. Metode yang diterapkan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah koordinasi, sosialisasi dan pelaksanaan kalibrasi alat pengukur kadar air. Khalayak sasaran dalam kegiatan ini adalah Kelompok Tani Bersaudara yang berada di Dusun Napal Hijau, Desa Ulak Bandung, Kecamatan Muara Sahung, Kabupaten Kaur yang terletak sekitar 233 km arah selatan Kota Bengkulu.  Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah adanya pemahaman, pengetahuan dan kesadaran khalayak sasaran dalam menjaga kualitas kopi biji menggunakan alat pengukur kadar air, guna memenuhi standar kadar air tingkat pedagang pengumpul kurang dari 20%.
