Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the performance of sows reproduction intensively in Kambajawa sub-district, East Sumba regency. The study was conducted from January until March 2017 and this research is a survey method with a direct interview to 200 respondents as a population and 196 sows. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistic approach depicted on frequency table for each indicator or dimension. The measured variables were estrus time; estrus cycle; litter size; wean quantity; and mortality rate. Based on this study, it is known that the reproductive performance of the sows maintained intensively was categorized well. Thus, it can be concluded that the reproductive performance of sows in Kambajawa district that is, estrus duration 4.21±1.10 days, estrus cycle 21.15±1.64 days, litter size 8.50±1.39 and 39.71% of mortality.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the quality of fresh semen from Sumba Ongole (SO) bulls which was diluted with Bestvile Thawing Solution (BTS) diluent modified with soybean milk (SKD). The study used a completely randomized design consisting of four treatments and 5 replications, P0 (100 % BTS), P1 (95 % BTS + 5 % SM), P2 (90 % BTS + 10 % SM), and P3 (85 % BTS + 15 % SM). The parameters observed were the colour, smell, consistency, pH, volume, motility, viability, and abnormalities of spermatozoa. The results showed that the characteristics were in the normal, creamy white semen colour, semen volume 3,6 ml, medium consistency, pH 6,3, typical SO bulls smell, sperm motility 85 %, mass activity +++, sperm concentration 1276 million/ml, live sperm 90,05 % and sperm abnormalities 6,15 % and quality there was no significant difference between the four treatments. The spermatozoa motility and viability in each treatment was able to which achieved on day 1. The characteristics of the spermatozoa of SO bulls were in the normal category. Meanwhile, BTS diluent with the addition of SKD was unable to maintain sperm quality.

Abstract

The aims of this study were to determine the characteristics and quality of fresh semen from Sumba Ongole (SO) bulls which were diluted with tris dilution supplemented with skim milk. The study used a completely randomized design consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments were P0 = 100 % Tris, P1 = 88 % Tris + 12 % Susu skim, P2 = 86 % Tris + 14 % Susu skim, dan P3 = 84 % Tris + 16 % Susu skim. The parameters observed were the colour, smell, consistency, pH, volume, motility, viability, and abnormalities of semen. The results showed that the characteristics of the semen were normal, the color of the semen was creamy white, the semen volume was 4.6 ml, the consistency was moderate, pH 6.3, the smell was typical of SO cattle, the motility was 80%, the mass movement was +++, the concentration was 758 million/ ml, viability is 74.24% and abnormality is 16.12%. The characteristics and quality of cement in the four treatments showed no significant difference (P>0.01). The motility and viability of spermatozoa in each treatment were able to survive up to day 3. The Tris diluent with the addition of skim milk was not able to maintain the characteristics and quality of the semen.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi asap cair kayu kesambi (Schleichera oleosa) yang berbeda terhadap kadar air, pH, total fenol dan organoleptik dendeng sapi meliputi (Warna, rasa, tekstur dan kesukaan). Penelitian telah dilaksanakan di laboratorium terpadu Universitas Kristen Wira Wacana Sumba. Materi penelitian yang digunakan adalah daging sapi segar yang diperoleh dari Rumah Potong Hewan (RPH) Waingapu, Kabupaten Sumba Timur. Daging diambil pada bagian paha belakang sebanyak 5kg. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari 4 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan yaitu : P1= Konsentrasi pengasapan 10%; P2= Konsentrasi pengasapan 15%; P3=Konsentrasi pengasapan 30%; P4=Konsentrasi pengasapan 45%, sehingga terdapat 20 unit sampel. Variabel pengamatan adalah kadar air, pH, total fenol dan organoleptik (Warna, rasa, tekstur dan kesukaan). Data yang diperoleh kemudian analisis raganm dengan taraf kepercayaan 5%, hasil berpengaruh nyata dilanjutkan dengan uji Beda Nyata Terkecil (BNT), Data Organoleptik diolah statistik dengan metode Non Parametrik Kruskall Wallis. Hasil analisis ragam menunjukkan, bahwa pemanfaatan asap cair kayu kesambi dengan level konsentrasi yang tertinggi berpengaruh dalam menurunkan kadar air dan pH tetapi dapat meningkatkan penerimaan panelis terhadap organoleptik (warna, rasa, tekstur dan kesukaan) pada dendeng sapi. Konsentrasi asap cair dengan level yang tertinggi dapat meningkatkan aktivitas total fenol.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui performa bibit Sapi Sumba Ongole berdasarkan sifat kualitatif dan kuantitatif di Kecamatan Pandawai Kabupaten Sumba Timur. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei langsung di lapangan. Penelitian menggunakan sebanyak 383 ekor sapi Sumba Ongole, dengan jenis kelamin jantan dan betina, kemudian dikelompokkan beradasarkan umur ternak 18 - < 24 dan 24 – 30 bulan. Observasi dan pengukuran dilakukan untuk mengumpulkan data hubungan dari pengukuran variabel. Variabel penelitian meliputi tinggi pundak, panjang badan, lingkar dada, dan lingkar scrotum, sedangkan sifat kualitatif meliputi warna dan bentuk. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sifat kuantitatif sapi SO jantan umur 18 - < 24 bulan pada kelas I terjadi penurunan di bawah SNI, sedangkan  kelas II dan III sesuai SNI. Sapi SO jantan umur 24-30 bulan kelas I dan III tidak sesuai SNI, sedangkan kelas II sesuai standar SNI. Performa kuantitatif sapi SO betina umur 18<24 kelas I kelas II dan III tidak memenuhi stndar SNI. Sapi SO umur 24-30 bulan kelas I dan II mencapai SNI, sedangkan kelas III tidak mencapai SNI. Performa kualitatif sapi SO jantan berwarna putih yakni mencapai 70%, sedangkan yang berwarna hitam 30%, dan sapi betina 100% berwarna putih.
