Improving Students’ Skills in Translation through Students-Teams Achievement Division (STAD) Technique Ahmad, Syarwan

Abstract

This classroom action rresearch was aimed at improving students’ skills in translating at the English Department of the State Islamic University (UIN) Ar-Rarniry Banda Aceh by using the Student-Teams Achievement Division (STAD) Technique. Throughout the entire cycles, students worked in groups of 4-5 persons to plan and write their translations. The study showed that the average score of pre- test (66) increased dramatically to reach 86, and moved up a little higher (87) after the second cycle. It is recommended that STAD Cooperative Technique be implemented in teaching translation courses.  Key words: Teaching translation; STAD; UIN Aceh.Copyright © 2015 by Al-Talim All right reserved

Abstract

This article explains theories and thought of Psychology of Learning which support the idea of using Information Computer Technology in instructional program. It focuses on the rational of applying ICT and the role of E-mail, mailing list, website and mind-tools to improve learning program. In conclusion, the implementation of ICT, especially Internet, is really relevant to theories and new trend in the field of Psychology of Learning called constructivism. Email, mailing list, website and computer mind-tools improve instructional program. Therefore, ICT especially Internet is necessary to be inserted in all aspects of curriculum.

Abstract

Instructional leadership is a concept in which a principal’s management emphases on academic or instructional improvement. It is the principal leadership siding with academic affairs. Conventionally, school principals play the role as managers or administrators. Whereas the role of instructional leadership is delegated to other parties such as vice principal for curriculum affairs. Most educators and scholars agree that instructional leadership needs to be practiced if effective schools are to be realized. To be an instructional leader, it is necessary for a principal to have expertise in curriculum, instruction and assessment. Since most principals lack of skills on instructional leadership practices, instructional leadership training for principals is badly needed.

Abstract

Sejak kemerdekaan 1945, Indonesia telah mengalami sebelas kali perubahan kurikulum. Perubahan kurikulum, antara lain, bertujuan untuk menyesuaikan kurikulum pendidikan dengan perkembangan masyarakat, ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi. Namun, setiap kali perubahan kurikulum dilakukan, selalu saja disambut pro dan kontra. Kurikulum 2013 menuai banyak kritik dan protes. Kritik dan protes datang dari berbagai kalangan menyangkut isi dan kemasan kurikulum, kesiapan guru dan lain-lain. Tulisan ini mencoba memberikan salah satu solusi terhadap masalah-masalah implementasi kurikulum 2013. Kepemimpinan instruksional kepala sekolah direkomendasikan menjadi salah satu solusi bagi efektivitas implementasi kurikulum 2013. Kepemimpinan instruksional merupakan kepemimpinan kepala sekolah yang memprioritaskan belajar-mengajar dalam kepemimpinanya. Kepala sekolah yang berpihak kepada akademik, kepemimpinan instruksional diyakini akan mampu menyelesaikan masalah-masalah implementasi kurikulum 2013. Pengutamaan keterlibatan kepala sekolah dalam orientasi dan pelatihan-pelatihan implementasi kurikulum 2013 direkomendasikan

Abstract

The excellent school and effective school share their characteristics. Their main characteristic is that higher student academic achievement and there is no disparity or gap across the scores gained. The status of the excellent school is a dynamic process. It should not be decided by educational authorities. The existence of the excellent school has become heated discussions lately. The status of the government supported excellent schools including the RSBI (International Standard School Pilot Project) has recently been revoked. However, the existence of the school should be maintained. Further research on the excellent school is badly needed.

Abstract

Reference Service is seen as the heart of Libray Service. Reference Service is facilitated by reference librarians, who fulfill the user’s information need. Like other library services, Reference Service has also changed as a consequence of the impact of technology which is evolving in accordance with the changing need of the society. This article aims at discussing some new trends of library reference. This new style of service is broken into four  main areas namely new trends of reference source; new trends of reference interview; collaborative efforts of reference service; library reference service.

Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk memperjelas makna Konstruktivisme dan implikasinya dalam perancangan dan pembelajaran. Aliran pembelajaran Konstruktivisme merupakan penguatan dan penyempurnaan aliran-aliran pembelajaran sebelumnya seperti Kognitivisme dan Behaviorisme. Yang paling penting menurut falsafah pembelajaran Konstruktivisme adalah proses pembelajaran dapat memfasilitasi konstruksi pengetahuan oleh pelajar sendiri. Dalam proses pembelajaran, antara lain, inquiry, cooperative, collaborative, pengaitan pembelajaran dengan alam nyata (real world) dan pertimbangan pengetahuan awal (prior knowledge) siswa sangat penting diperhatikan guru. Konstruktivisme menuai kritikan terutama dari kalangan praktisi pendidikan. Bagaimanapun, Konstruktivisme merupakan aliran pembelajaran terkini yang direkomendasikan psikolog pendidikan.
