Abstract

Abstact Textbooks have an important role in the learning process. In addition as a reference material, also have the potential to affect student learning. In this study, carried out a survey of mathematics education students. Students were asked to describe how they used textbooks. The survey was conducted by giving questionnaires and interviews about what components are used, when students look at each component, the reason for these components as well as the students see what difficulties encountered when used textbook. Data collected was processed using descriptive statistics as well as to determine there are differences in the use of good text books for each component or components in pairs using Cochran’s Q test and McNemar Test. The result show that students tend to use the sample chapter to build their understanding of math concept than the chapter text description. Difficulties experienced when students understand basic concepts such as definitions and theorems which causes difficulty in working on.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This study aims to determine (1) whether math model of cooperative learning TAI type can improve significantly students' mathematical understanding; (2) how the activities of students and teacher during the learning process; (3) whether the learning model used in improving the ability of mathematical understanding can achieve mastery of student learning; and (4) how the students' response to the application of learning model. This research is a classroom action research (PTK) carried out in three cycles. Research subjects class VIII C SMP Islam Al Azhar 5 Cirebon totaling 25 students. Instruments used in the form of test capabilities instrumental and relational understanding of mathematical student, activity observation sheet of students and teachers, and questionnaires. The results showed, with a model of cooperative learning TAI can improve students' mathematical understanding. This is evidenced by the increase in the results of the pretest to posttest increased understanding of students' mathematical abilities significantly. This is supported by an increase in the average value of students each cycle. Activities of students and teacher during learning quite well and has increased in each cycle. The percentage of students activity increased from the first cycle, second cycle and third cycle in the amount of 57.5 %, 72.5 % and 82.5 %. Activities of students and teacher is getting better at every meeting. Increasing the ability of mathematical understanding can achieve mastery learning students. This is evidenced from the results of the pretest obtained 3 students who completed (12%), the first cycle were 17 students who completed (68%), the second cycle were 19 students (76%) completed, the third cycle as many as 21 students (84%) completed, and postes 22 students (88%) with a value above the KKM. Based on the questionnaire, most students give a good attitude and response to learning with cooperative learning model of TAI as the guidance provided by the teacher individually and the help of friends in the group. TAI model of cooperative learning will be more effective in teaching the material with a deeper level of understanding and ability given to the subject heterogeneous students.  Keywords:      Cooperative Learning Model Team Assisted Individulization, The Ability of Students' Mathematical Understanding.

Abstract

Abstrak. Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dampak/pengaruh pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan Reciprocal Teaching terhadap peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi dan disposisi matematis pada siswa SMP. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen yang berdesain kelompok kontrol pretes-postes. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa SMPN di Bandung yang berasal dari level sekolah sedang. Banyak sampel 76 siswa yang terdistribusi dalam dua kelas. Instrumen penelitian terdiri dari satu set tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis, satu set skala disposisi matematis, lembar observasi dan pedoman wawancara. Analisis data dalam penelitian menggunakan uji-t, ANOVA satu jalur dan ANOVA dua jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi dan disposisi matematis siswa yang belajar dengan pembelajaran Reciprocal Teaching lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional; (2) terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antar kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang belajar dengan pembelajaran Reciprocal Teaching terhadap KAM (tinggi, sedang, rendah); (3) terdapat interaksi antara pembelajaran dengan KAM terhadap peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Abstract. The main purpose of this study is to determine the impact of learning mathematics with Reciprocal Teaching approach towardthe increase enhancement of mathematical communication and disposition ability in junior secondary school students. The method employed in this research is quasi experiment by using pretest-posttest control design. Population of this research is all junior secondary school students from middle level school in Bandung. The number of the samples is 76 students distributed into two classes. Research instrument consists of one set of mathematical communication tests, and one set of mathematical disposition scale, observation sheets and interview guide. Data analysis in this study uses Independent Samples Test (t-test), one-way ANOVA and two-way ANOVA. The results are: (1) increasing mathematical communication and dispositionability students who obtain Reciprocal Teaching learning is better than that of students who obtain konvensional learning; (2) There is significant difference student’s mathematical communication ability who obtain Reciprocal Teaching learning toward student’s prior abilities (upper, middle and lower); (3) There is an interaction between learning approaches and student’s prior abilities toward increasing the ability of mathematical communication.
