Abstract

This article explores the significance of language skills integration generally in foreign language teaching and particularly in Arabic. This is motivated by the reality of Arabic language learning in Indonesia State Islamic Higher Education (PTKIN) which still separates the four language skills so that learning Arabic language is not able to produce language learning actively as a means of communication. Through literary studies, the author offers the integration of language skills as an alternative solution in shaping communicative language learners.

Abstract

This study aims to show the tendencies and ideologies of Arabic and English online media. Al-Jazera and CNN International, as online media, in reporting the death of a journalist named Jamal Kashogi is as a case of the study. This study uses Norman Fairclough’s model of critical discourse analysis which is divided into text analysis, discourse practice, and sociocultural practices. The result of this study suggests that Al-Jazeera and CNN both showed a supportive attitude towards the Kassogi murder case. Aljazeera shows a neutral tendency, while CNN tends to adopt a negative trend towards Westerners because of its ideology. Aljazeera represented the interests and sensibilities of the Middle East with an ideology that appeared to be similar to anti-American view in the presentation of news texts, while CNN could not release the collective consciousness as Westerners.

Abstract

Education is basically a conscious effort to develop the potential of human resources by encouraging and facilitating learning activities. Self-learning activities are actually natural human processes in their lives. By learning humans get a lot of benefits, the most important thing is how to realize learning goals in order to maintain survival. Abstract

This research aims to investigate the implementation of the MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka, Independent Learning-Independent Campus)’ Model of the connected curriculum in the Arabic Language departments through an online survey. This research is qualitative in nature by inviting responses from 9 heads of Arabic language departments. The results of this survey show that those Arabic Language departments respond to the MBKM ‘connected curriculum’ model positively, among others, by holding seminars, focus group discussions, and any events on the term of MBKM, and curriculum reviews to adopt the MBKM design. It is also found that there are still a few Arabic language departments that have already implemented the MBKM due to the necessary preparation process. This research reveals several designs those nine departments built, for example, the MBKM design with a limited 20 credits outside the department, a full MBKM of 40 credits outside the department, and 60 credits outside the department, while in terms of the implementation, there was a pattern of MBKM outside the department within the same institution and the department at another institution or university. These various designs show that MBKM provides institutions to adjust their curriculum design to meet their needs by considering the rules of MBKM offered by the government.
