Abstract

Tapung river and Kampar Kiri river have different characteristics.Tapung river have uncontaminated ecosystem waters, while Kampar Kiri river has been already contaminated. The different condition of two rivers influence fish morphometric and meristic. The purpose of this research is to determine the difference between morphometric and meristic of male and female lais fish in Tapung river and Kampar Kiri river. The fish samples have been taken on March-May 2014. As many as 60 fish (consisting of 30 males and 30 females) were collected every month for each location. The data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 16. Morphometric characters of male and female lais fish K.limpok in Tapung river have longer size than in Kampar Kiri river. The growth status of lais fish on each observation station werepositive allometric, negative allometric and isometric. T-tes showed that morphometric between male lais fish and female lais fish for each location of the research were significant different. The meristic of male and female lais fish in both rivers were not have significant different.

Abstract

Earthworms have characteristic and a different range of tolerance to environmental conditions such as pH and soil organic content. The purpose of this study was to determine the growth of earthworm Perionyx sp1 (worm milk) and Perionyx sp2 (red worm) in waste of the oil palm frond with chicken manure media. The parameters measured were body weight, number of coccoons produced, temperature and soil pH. The eksperiment were designed using factorial completely randomized with 5 treatment and 3 replications. The data were analysz using (ANOVA) with DMRT at 5% significant. The results showed that earthworm weight and the number of coccoon was significantly different at treatment media (P> 0.05). The traetment with 75% of oil palm fronds waste and 25% chicken manure were the best media to increased body weight and the number of coccoons for both earthworm.

Abstract

Pelawan plant (Tristaniopsis whiteana Griff.) is used by people for blood cleaner after postpartum. Scientifically, pelawan is proven as antiurolithiasis agent. However, its secondary metabolite toxicity is still unknown. This study aimed to know the histological structure of liver tissue of white rat after being given pelawan extract. This study use 8 white rats that were divided into four groups. Control group was given food and water, P1 was given food and inducer solution (mixture from ethylene glycol and ammonium chloride), P2 group was given ethanol extract of pelawan leaves with inducer solution, and P3 group was given ethanol extract of pelawan leaves. Histological slides of white rat liver were made using paraffin method, stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE). Result showed that the liver of white rat changed. Therefore, the treatment of inducer solution and ethanol extract of pelawan leaves was toxic because it changed the histopatologycal part.
