Abstract

Pelatihan standar higiene dan sanitasi dilaksanakan sebagai kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat oleh Perguruan Tinggi terhadap UKM Olahan Ikan Patin di Kampung Patin, Desa Koto Mesjid, Kecamatan XIII Koto Kampar, Kabupaten Kampar Provinsi Riau. Peserta pelatihan adalah anggota dari UKM Negeri Patin dan UKM Mr. Patin. Produk UKM berupa nugget, bakso, abon, kerupuk kulit dan fillet dari bahan baku ikan patin. Pelatihan dilaksanakan sebagai bentuk transfer pengetahuan mengenai standar higiene dan sanitasi serta cara dan persyaratan pengurusan izin edar produk pangan untuk peningkatan pemberdayaan UKM olahan ikan patin. Pelatihan ini bekerjasama dengan pemateri dari BBPOM di Pekanbaru. Dari hasil kuisioner diketahui bahwa peserta pelatihan mendapatkan peningkatan pengetahuan yaitu dari 35% peserta yang sudah memahami mengenai standar higiene dan sanitasi sebelumnya, meningkat menjadi 95% peserta yang betul-betul memahami setelah pelatihan. Anggota UKM juga mendapatkan tambahan pengetahuan mengenai cara dan persyaratan pengurusan izin edar produk pangan, yatitu dari 20% peserta yang sudah mengetahuinya sebelum pelatihan meningkat menjadi 95% peserta yang memahami setelah pelatihan

Abstract

The salt-stress tolerant rice genotypes are very important to overcome the salt stress in coastal area. This study was aimed to analyze the responses of shoot and root of rice seedlings to the salt stress. The rice genotype (Solok) tested was originally from Kecamatan Bantan, Kabupaten Bengkalis. This study was conducted using Randomized Block Design with three replications. The rice was treated with different salt concentrations, i.e 0 mM (control), 15 mM, 30 mM, and 45 mM. The results showed that the root growth and biomass of Solok genotype was not significantly different between various treatments. This happened because the salt concentration was low. Similarly with the root growth and biomass, the shoot growth and biomass of Solok genotype was not significantly different between various treatments of the salt-stress.

Abstract

Total DNA molecule and fragment of the mitochondrial D-loop region is needed to determine the nucleotides sequence of mitochondrial D-loop region from lais danau fish (Ompok hypophthalmus). Therefore, this study aimed to isolate and amplify mitochondrial D-loop region that can be used as genetic information resources of O. hypophthalmus. The samples of O. hypophthalmus were taken from flood plain river in Riau, Kampar River. Tail muscle of O. hypophthalmus was used for DNA isolation. DNA molecules were amplified using PCR machine with L15926 and H00651primers. The total DNA of O. hypophthalmus was obtained in this study. The amplification process produced 153 bp fragment mitochondrial D-loop region of O. hypophthalmus.

Abstract

Excess  of  Fe  in  costal  land  in  Riau Province  is potential to  poison the  roots  of  plants. However,the plants have their  own  mechanism  to overcome  the Fe overload.  This  study was aimed  to  isolate  the total   DNAof rice plants among  three  local  rice genotypes  from Riau  which are  commonly  planted in costal  land  in  Bengkalis,  Riau, with  Fe overload resistant  swamp  rice variety  (Mahsuri)  and Fe overload sensitive rice variety  (IR64). The experiment was conducted  in the Laboratory of Genetics, FMIPA UR,from January to May   2014. Research methods  consisted of  isolation  of DNA  and  electrophoresis.  In this study  isolation of DNA  from five rice  varieties  was succesfully done. Among those DNA, concentration  of  total DNA  which were  obtained from IR64 and Amat Candu were very high.

Abstract

Rubber plant (Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex A. Juss) Mull. Arg.) is one ofcommercial commodities in Riau Province that distributed at several plantation centerssuch as Bengkalis Regency, Kampar, Kuantan Singingi, Meranti, and Rokan Hulu. Thepropagation of rubber plants in long period of time causes variety in latex production.Nowdays, most of the rubber plantations in Riau Province use unstandardized seedlingthat result in diverse and low latex production. The first way to increate latex productionis to identify the morphological characters related to latex production. This research wasaimed to find out the characters that had correlation with latex productivity level. Thisresearch used exploration method. Samples such branches, leaves, and seeds from 10rubber trees for each regency were collected, hence there were 50 samples wereanalyzed. The sample collection was based on the production level. A total of 66morphological characters were analyzed. Seven out of 66 observed character had acorrelation with latex production i.e. dense branch of tree, dense leaf of tree, dense leafof branch, length petiole of main leaf, length petiole of leaflet, length of leaf, and wideof lamina. These characters can be used to select superior rubber plant.

Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a plant that is not resistant to the salt stress, but the development of agriculture in coastal areas requires the analysis of rice genotypes that are resistant to the salt stress. The salt stress may cause chromosomal abnormality, such as sticky chromosome. This study was aimed to analyze the influence of the salt stress on the formation of chromosomes in four rice genotypes originating from Bantan Air village, Bengkalis. This research was conducted using randomized block design (RBD) with two factors, i.e. NaCl concentrations (0 mM, 60 mM, 75 mM, and 90 mM) and the rice genotypes (IR64, Indragiri, Solok, Sadani, Yamin, and Amat Candu) with three replications for each treatment. Normal anaphase chromosomes were visible in control, whereas sticky chromosomes were seen in 90 mM salt exposure. It concluded that salt stress may cause sticky chromosomes.

Abstract

Kryptopterus apogon is one of freshwater fish species that was only found in floodplain river in Riau Province. Many species of lais fish are found in Riau Province rivers and morphologically has the same shape therefore it is necessary to find alternative markers to distinguish the species. The important step in genetic analysis is DNA isolation. This study aimed to isolate the total DNA from Kryptopterus apogon. The fish samples were taken from the Kampar Kiri and Tapung Hilir rivers. Isolation of total DNA was done by taking the muscle tissue from the fish tail (1 mm x 1 mm in size). Isolation of total DNA was done using DNA isolation kit (QIAGEN DNeasy Blood & Tissue). After that, the total DNA was checked on 1% agarose gel to estimate the quantity and quality of total DNA. Total isolated DNA of Kryptopterus apogon from two rivers had various quality and quantity. Tha total quantity of DNA molecules ranged from to 100-200 ng/μl, while the total quality was good enough or not fragmented. The DNA was clear, thick, and no smear.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the growth of earthworm ( Peryonix sp) in two types of media, that is mixture of palm sheath waste with chicken manures and mixture of vegetables waste with chicken manures. This research was conducted at Biological Garden Department of Biology Math and Science Faculty Riau University. The research used completely randomized design with five treatments and three replications i.e treatments M1 (100% palm sheath waste); M2 (75% palm sheath waste + 25% chicken manure); M3 (50% palm sheath waste + 50% chicken manure); M4 (25% palm sheath waste + 75% chicken manure) and M5 (100% chicken manure), S1 (100% vegetables waste); S2 (75% vegetables waste + 25% chicken manure); S3 (50% vegetables waste + 50% chicken manure); S4 (25% vegetables waste + 75% chicken manure) and S5 (100% chicken manure). Analysis of variance showed that type of media had significantly affected body weight and amount of coccon produced. The biggest body weight and amount coccon were at media M2 and S3 in the day of 20.

Abstract

Many cassava varieties or genotypes have been grown or planted by farmer in Pelalawan, and one of them is cassava cv. Hijau. This study was aimed to identify morphological character of cassava cv. Hijau from Pelalawan. The cassava stems were obtained from Langgam, Kabupaten Pelalawan. The seven cassava stems were planted as replication. Morphological characters, including leaf shape, color of apical and fifth leaf, petiole color, stem color, stem diameter, flower, fruit, and tuber, were observed on 5 and 12 months after planted. Results showed that cassava cv. Hijau had lanceolate leaf with sharp tip, light-green apical leaf, and dark-green fifth leaf. The petiole was yellowish-green. The stem diameter was medium (12-25 mm) and the color stem was yellowish-green. The flower was monoecious. The fruit was rounded and jagged. The tuber shape was cylindrical and its color was white.

Abstract

Cassava is an alternative food to substitute rice as a staple food. The improvement of cassava in breeding program requires many high genetic diversity of cassava. The objective of this study was to describe the morphological characters of cassava cv. Juray from Kabupaten Rokan Hulu, Riau. This research was conducted at Biology Department, FMIPA UR, for 12 months, started from March 2013 to February 2014. The cassava stems were planted and then observed on fifth and twelfth months. The results showed that cassava cv. Juray had morphological characters as follows: the stem color was grey, the stem diameter was large (3.4 cm), the stem texture was grooved, the petiole length was medium (9.77), the flowering time was 10 months after planting, the tuber shape was irregular, the external color of tuber was light brown, the tuber cortex thickness was thin (1 mm), the tuber cortex color was cream, and the root pulp color was white.
