Abstract

Doktrin utama Islam, doktrin tauhid juga mengisyaratkan kesatuan manusia (The unity of man) sebagai hamba yang tunduk patuh kepada kesatuan Tuhan (The unity of God) dan karenanya menolak upaya penuhanan lainnya. Amid the turmoil of the global economy which led to sharp disparities, the people and political elites in the world seemed to have lost the critical power to oppose the oppression and exploitation under the guise of development. That is where Islam, as a transformative religion, should be able to come as an antidote. Normatively, Islam is not a religion that denies social responsibility. In fact, in his word, God declared a Muslim a religious liar if while he worshiped he ignored the conditions of concern for the needy and orphans around him (107: 3). The main doctrine of Islam, the doctrine of monotheism also implies human unity (The unity of man) as a servant who obeys to the unity of God (The Unity of God) and therefore rejects other full efforts. This paper proposes a conception of Islam as a critical theology which has the main message that followers adhere to social change. This conception shows a liberating Islam through five theological elements namely doctrine, story, subject, consciousness, and liberating education.Kata Kunci: Teologi Pembebasan, Pendidikan Kritis, Transformasi Sosial, Islam

Abstract

Muhammadiyah is one of the world's largest Islamic movement organizations, contributing to a variety of important areas of life for Indonesians. Muhammadiyah promotes three main characteristics based on community development: progressiveism, collegialism, and autonomy. Unfortunately, as Islamic populism grew stronger, Muhammadiyah became engulfed in a political vortex, endangering the stability of its cadres and giving the public the impression that the government could control the organization. This article evaluates the threats that cause these values to deteriorate and offers treatment options. The solutions offered to maintain the principles of progressiveism, collegialism, and autonomy are to rejuvenate the leadership, build distance from politics, develop community funds, and build supporting business units, according to literature studies and observations in several areas. Furthermore, political education as an effort to formulate political theology for Muhammadiyah members is required so that the big ship of Muhammadiyah does not become divided due to differences in political views and can increasingly contribute to politics at the local-national level without jeopardizing its integrity as a movement organization.

Abstract

Through the International Class Program (ICP), SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Inovasi Malang facilitates active English learning. Active English learning necessitates consistent actualization practice activities. Schools are expected to maximize the use of online media for educational purposes. This research explores technology-based ICP activities and the media used to optimize ICP program collaboration. This study employs a qualitative research method based on case studies; the data are presented descriptively. The investigation was conducted over the course of six months, from June to November of 2022. Several key informants, including principals, program coordinators, and program participants/students, were interviewed to collect data; they were assigned as research subjects. Additionally, researchers performed field observations and documentation. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The findings indicated that SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Inovasi Malang could take advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic by optimizing online media, such as virtual meetings in the ICP class. Instagram, YouTube, and video production are other media. Another finding is that space, time, and financial constraints can be effectively managed. Differentiated learning requires intensive assistance from Kampung Inggris supplemented by International Student Discussions and project-based learning. Nevertheless, this program must still surmount two obstacles: the low level of student self-confidence and the diversity of student abilities.

Abstract

The Integrated Islamic School (Sekolah Islam Terpadu) is known for its rapid development trend in the last decade. The development of the integrated Islamic School runs with the growth of interest to a pure Islamic Education. Appearing as an Islamic institution integrating both religious and secular knowledge, the Integrated Islamic School is able to master the market among the Muslim population. This article aims to scrutinize the characteristics and strategies of the school to expand amid the competitive Indonesian education market through human resource supervision. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the characteristics and strategies of the integrated Islamic School-based human resource supervision encompass political stability, strong Islamic symbols, Islamic personal development programs, inclusive scholarships, and incorporating Islamic populism. These characteristics and strategies attribute the integrated Islamic school as modern, advanced yet religious. In addition, the schools are exclusive in recruiting teachers, pragmatic in using Islamic symbols, and idealistic in the curriculum. Interestingly, this research evokes the integrated Islamic school’s two faces. Internally, it affiliates with an exclusive organization and ideology (Muslim Brotherhood), but simultaneously the school publicly shows inclusive nuances to the society.
