Abstract

This article aims to review the conceptual background of dwarapala couple figure found in the doorway of kori agung temple complex of buildings in Bali. The method applied is the hermeneutic method by applying some kind of major approaches, including: (1) approach on the statue morphology, (2) pattern of placement, (3) mythology and cosmology of Hindu and Buddhist, (4) comparative studies of the dwarapala figure outside Indonesia, and (5) folklore based approach.The result shows that there are some kinds of dwarapala couples, among others, the giant king pair, pair of mans clown, couples of monkey king, husband and wife couples, and couples of rangda. The conclusions obtained show that there are some major concepts behind the existence of various pairs figure of kori dwarapala in building the great temple complex in Bali. Each pair of the dwarapala figure includes symbolic meanings associated with the concept of binary opposition.Abstrak Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengulas tentang latar belakang konseptual pasangan sosok dwarapala yang terdapat di lubang pintu kori agung kompleks bangunan pura di Bali. Metode kajian yang diterapkan adalah metode hermeneutik dengan menerapkan beberapa macam pendekatan utama, di antaranya: (1) pendekatan morfologi arca, (2) pendekatan atas pola penempatannya, (3) pendekatan mitologi dan kosmologi Hindu dan Buddha, (4) pendekatan atas studi komparatif terhadap sosok dwarapala di luar Indonesia, dan (5) pendekatan berdasarkan cerita rakyat. Hasil observasi secara umum yang telah dijalankan menunjukkan bahwa ada beberapa macam pasangan dwarapala yang dapat dijumpai di lapangan, antara lain pasangan raja raksasa, pasangan punakawan, pasangan suami-istri, pasangan raja kera, pasangan bidadari, dan pasangan rangda. Kesiimpulan yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa ada beberapa konsepsi utama yang melatarbelakangi keberadaan berbagai pasangan sosok dwarapala di bangunan kori agung kompleks pura di Bali. Salah satu dari konsepsi temuan menunjukkan bahwa setiap pasangan sosok dwarapala tersebut memuat makna simbolis yang berkaitan dengan konsepsi oposisi biner.

Abstract

Pengelolaan sampah di Kelurahan Desa Sesetan, Kecamatan Denpasar Selatan, Denpasar – Bali dilakukan oleh usaha ramah lingkungan Bank Sampah Asri Karya dan Bank Sampah Sesetan Lestari. Kedua usaha ini intinya mempunyai permasalahan yang sama, yaitu berkaitan dengan produktivitas dan efisiensi disebabkan proses pengolahan sampah khususnya sampah organik yang masih konvensional sehingga membutuhkan relatif lebih banyak tenaga, tempat dan waktu. Berdasarkan uraian tersebut, serta dalam upaya untuk mengatasi permasalahan yang ada, maka tujuan dan luaran dari kegiatan yang dirancang adalah menghasilkan inovasi sebuah alat pengolah sampah organik serbaguna yaitu bisa sebagai komposter dan digester sampah yang dapat dioperasikan dengan produktivitas 3-4 kali dibandingkan cara konvensional . Alat komposter digester ini terdiri dari tiga bagian utama, bagian dasar , bagian yang menampung air lindi hasil proses pembusukkan sampah, nantinya digunakan sebagai pupuk cair, bagian tengah, merupakan ruang diletakkan sampah padat, di bagian ini sampah diolah menjadi pupuk padat dan juga untuk menghasilkan biogas. Abstract

Dogs are animals that have high popularity as pets in the global community. Indonesia is no exception, but people still do not understand the responsibility for caring dogs as pets. This has an impact on the dog's assumption only as a comforter without thinking about the importance of their needs and care. Because there is a considerable comparison between the level of dog popularity and the sense of responsibility for caring dogs as pets, a place is needed to harmonize the gap. The Dog Care Center is needed to educate the public and provide facilities for dog needs and care, with the theme of Natural Living design that takes the concept of Harmony in the design of the interior. The choice of harmony concept has an emphasis on the design of space, material and color that can give the impression of openness without the separation between human and dog in it. Abstract

Giving birth is something that must be experience or the nature of woman. In addition to joy the newest family member, giving birth could bring some negative impact and even take the mother’s life so that raises fear to carry out the labor process. Gentle birth is known as a natural birth that preparing mother's mental to undergo labor, which is focuses on the relaxation, comfortable, safety and privacy in the delivery. Planning a maternity clinic facility with natural living theme that has a home atmosphere is suitable to decrease stress level and feel calm. Sanur strategic area is a potential location to support activities related to relaxation and an activity without any interferences, Sanur is also a great place to attract foreign tourist to the facility. Mother will never be separated from her child, so the purpose of maternity clinic facility is to accom- modate all integrated facilities including health facilities and physical treatments for mother and child from age of 0-5 years (toddlers) aimed at supporting the birthing process itself. Abstract

Changes in Spatial Functions in Subak Cultural Landscape in Urban Areas: A Case Study of Subak Padang Galak City of Denpasar. The Subak cultural landscape is a world cultural heritage that has an important meaning for the people of Bali and the world, so it needs to be preserved. Changes in the cultural landscape in urban areas are inevitable due to urban development. The cultural landscape of Subak Padang Galak is a subak in the city of Denpasar that efforts have been made to preserve. Conservation efforts have been carried out by the Denpasar City government and the Kesiman Kertalangu Village administration. Conservation efforts are also carried out by the private sector by developing tourist attractions. The presence of new activities in the subak area will change the function of the space. To minimize the negative impact due to new activities in the subak area, it is necessary to study the changes in spatial function that occur in the Padang Galak subak. This research is a qualitative research. The analysis was carried out using a comprehensive literature review which was carried out by comparing objects with concepts or theories descriptively. The results of this study indicate that in addition to agricultural functions in the subak area, there are also recreational functions, sports functions, economic functions, communication functions and service functions. In general, the new function is still in accordance with city zoning regulations.

Abstract

The bale buga of Tenganan Pegringsingan demonstrates simple tectonics. It is, however, fully loaded with exciting and unique traditional knowledge and carpentry skills. This building could be used as a medium for learning in architectural education, especially in the structure and construction of traditional buildings. This research collects data through site observation, architectural documentation, and on-site empirical measurements. This process is also enriched by structured discussions with local respondents, including local undagi (architect) and owners of the bale buga. Data analysis is carried out in stages, embracing phases of data classification, definition, and description of every single structural element of the bale buga before they are ready to be included in learning materials to improve students’ competencies, knowledge, and skills in architectural drawing capacity through the stages of classifying, defining and elaborating the elements of bale buga construction. This information is presented as teaching materials that are comprehensively used to achieve students’ competence, knowledge, and skills in architectural drawing. The result of this study is a tectonics exploration of the bale buga that includes detailed constructions of its floor, wall, and roof; building construction materials in use, dimensions, and scale; and functions of the bale buga in the context of traditional homes in the Tenganan Pegeringsingan Village.Keywords: tectonics; bale buga; Balinese traditional architecture; Tenganan Pegringsingan AbstrakBale buga Tenganan Pegringsingan menunjukan tektonika yang sederhana, namun sarat dengan tinggalan pengetahuan serta keterampilan pertukangan tradisional yang menarik dan unik. Bangunan ini dapat dipakai sebagai media pembelajaran di dalam pengembangan dunia pendidikan arsitektur, khususnya untuk bidang struktur konstruksi bangunan tradisional. Proses pendataan di dalam penelitian ini dilaksanakan melalui observasi, pendokumentasian, serta pengukuran langsung secara empiris di lokasi penelitian. Data-data yang diperoleh juga diperkaya oleh hasil diskusi terstruktur dengan para narasumber setempat, seperti para undagi dan pemilik bale buga. Proses analisis dilakukan melalui tahapan pengklasifikasian, pendefinisian dan penjabaran elemen-elemen konstruksi bale buga. Informasi yang disajikan disiapkan agar secara komprehensif bisa dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan ajar untuk mencapai kompetensi, pengetahuan dan keterampilan menggambar mahasiswa di bidang arsitektur. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah eksplorasi tektonika bale buga yang meliputi penggambaran ilustrasi sistem konstruksi sambungan mulai dari elemen lantai, dinding dan atap; jenis bahan penyusun konstruksi; dimensi eksisting bale buga; serta penjelasan terkait fungsi bale buga dalam konteks rumah tradisional di Desa Tenganan Pegeringsingan.Kata kunci: tektonika; bale buga; arsitektur tradisional Bali; Tenganan Pengringsingan
