Abstract

The objectives of this study were to: (1) analyze the effects of different land tenure status on soil conservation level and (2) analyze the soil conservation level on production and income of upland rice farming. This research was conducted in Mausambi Village, Maurole Subdistrict, Ende Regency. Considerations in choosing a research village were seen from: a) the number of farmers who pawned agricultural land b) the extent of dry land and critical land c) the high percentage of poor farmers d) centers of food crop production and e) areas vulnerable to erosion. The population of upland rice farmers in Mausambi village was 214 people and consisted of 36 sharecroppers, 32 mortgagors and 146 owners. The method of sampling is cluster sampling, where this technique is a technique of selecting a sample from groups, small units or clusters. The sample size was calculated using Parrel formula. The sample size of land ownership status was 92 owners, 34 sharecroppers and 21 mortgagors. The analysis method used was multiple linear regression by including dummy variable of land tenure status and quantitative descriptive analysis. The result of the analysis shows that the farmers on land tenure status of owner are better in doing soil conservation efforts when compared to farmers on land tenure status of sharecropper and mortgagor. Owner dummy variable significantly affected the soil conservation level at 99% significant level. The positive sign means that the soil conservation level score on owner land tenure status is higher than the owner land tenure status of sharecropper and mortgagor. This is because in the owner farmers, the responsibility of soil conservation is higher than the farmers on other land tenure status. The well-done soil conservation efforts provide effect on the production and income of upland rice farming. The result of the research also shows that the land in the research site has not experienced severe erosion and soil conservation has been conducted but not maximized yet, especially on the aspect of contour farming, terrace treatment, terrace-strengthening plants, and tillage.

Abstract

Coconut plant is a plant that grows in a tropical area. It dominates growing in the coastal area. Ende Regency is a part of the district, located in East Nusa Tenggara Provence particularly in Flores island. The plan is one of the commodities in Ende that support it increase the income of the people generally. However, coconut is relatively low. For instance, one fruit is five hundred or a thousand rupiah. In reality, each plant of coconut can produce 25-30 fruits every month (APCC, 2004). Most of the coconut plants in Ende is a kind of local coconut which is known "Kelapa Dalam Lokal". This kind of commodity contains high oil quality which may be treated to produce more oil. Traditionally, farmers usually produce coconut oil which can improve their home income. This oil production is well known in Ende regency as "klentik oil or tandusan oil". Most people and farmers say that oil production can not give enough benefits or profits for supporting their home economic. For this reason, it is very important to change the way of how to treat coconut fruits in order to give more quality of the coconut oil. This new way is recognized as the emulsion method. Its actually is a new technology to process the coconut fruit to become virgin coconut oil (VCO). This analysis is conducted to find out the validity of the production and to know the profits of the production in regards to improving the income of the farmer. Financial analysis includes the analysis of validity in interpreneuring (R/C ratio), the impact price, and impact focus of production. Producing the virgin coconut oil has run at Faculty of Agriculture, Flores University on semester IV, period 2007- 2008. The validity analysis indicates that the R/C ratio peaks 2,69. It shows that this product is suitable to be carried on. The treatment of coconut oil and klentik oil. The price of 80 coconut fruits can produce 7.500 ml VCO and 1.500 ml klentik oil. The price of the VCO is Rp. 46,93,- per ml while production impact is 1.700 ml. In contrast to the price of kentik oil is Rp. 174,67,- per ml while its production impact is 2.620 ml. Thus, from the financial aspect, diversification of coconut to become virgin coconut oil and klentik oil simultaneously with emulsion method is appropriate to be conducted by farmers of coconut in order to improve their production the future time.

Abstract

Development of Rice Agrotourism Based On Sustainaable Agriculture in Maurole District. District Maurole has become one of the world's tourist destination screen sailing. Consequently, the community of Maurole District is required to provide various tourist attractions that served to tourists, including tourist attractions of rice fields. Tracing its history, tourist attractions in Maurole are available due to screen tours and benefits for farmers and local communities is not optimal. Considering the needs of farmers and the community needs to be fulfilled continuously, and the welfare must be realized, the direction of development of tourist attraction developed into agrotourism. Agrotourism is an alternative in development that leads to sustainable agriculture because its activities require farmers to conduct cultivation and conservation continuously. In addition, the principle of agronomic development based on sustainable agriculture refers to environmental balance in the long term that is beneficial to local communities, the utilization of non-destructive resources, and the benefits of social, economic, and cultures manifested well. However, empirically, agriculture-based sustainable agrotourism is not well understood in terms of knowledge, attitude, and behavior patterns of farmers, and the Maurole community, whose scope includes the concept, sustainable agronomic-based agrotourism, the actions that need to be done, and the benefits for tourists and the community in the long run. The argument encourages this important article to be socialized to provide an understanding for managers, communities, and other stakeholders in the implementation, so that more interested tourists and in turn the welfare of local communities and society generally can be guaranteed.

Abstract

The study aims at determining, firstly, the effect of chicken manure dose on the growth and crop result of sweet potato (Ipoma batatas), Cilembu Variety, secondly, determining the optimum dose of chicken manure which can lead the best of growth and yield of sweet potato (Cilembu variety). The method used at this research is completely randomized design, and the treatments are K0 (non-fertilizer), K1 (dose of 10 tons/ha), K2 (dose of 20 tons/ha), K3 (dose of 30 tons/ha). Observation variables in this study are the length of the rod, number of leaves, leaf area, number of wet bulb per plant, berangkasan weight, wet weight of bulb per plant, length of the bulb, the diameter of the bulb, and weight of wet bulb per hectare. The result of this research indicates that the giving of chicken manure, giving a good influence at the growth and yield of Cilembu sweet potato and real affect long stem at the age of 2, 6, and 8 mst of age, and wide leaf index at age 2, 4, and 6 mst. Production components have significantly affected for berangkasan weight, wet weight of bulb per plant, length of the bulb, the diameter of bulb and weight of wet bulb per hectare. The optimum dose of chicken manure was obtained with a dose of 20 tons per hectare which can raise the growth of stem length of Cilembu Sweet Potato (80,85 cm) and the crop of Cilembu sweet potato (731, 72 kg/ha).

Abstract

The goal of this research was to understand the biology of P. marginatus, a common pest for papaya plants. This research used 1 type of treatment which was repeated 10 times. The results of this research were intended to illustrate the average development time of each development phase of P. marginatus. These phases were: the egg phase (6 days), the female nymph phase (10 days), the male nymph phase (17 days), female adult stage (11 days), male adult stage (3 days). On average, the female life cycle was 27 days, and the male life cycle was 26 days. On average, the pre-fertile stage lasted 4 days, the fertile stage lasted 6 days and the post fertile stage lasted 1 day. On average the pre-egg-laying adult stage lasted 4 days, the egg-laying adult stage lasted 6 days and the post-egg-laying stage lasted 1 day. After the egg-laying stage, the average fecundity of P. marginatus was 370 eggs per female and from these, a total of 350 offspring were hatched per individual. The ratio of surviving Descendents to reproductive couples of P. marginatus white lice was 9:1.
