Abstract

Learning a second or foreign language is quite different from acquiring the first language or mother tongue. There are some differences found in different languages including the grammatical pattern. It tends to make the learners have errors in writing or speaking English. This study investigated the students’ analyses toward grammatical error on social media posts. The subject of research are 15 students of Politeknik Negeri Medan majoring computer engineering.There were 20 errors found by students which were further analyzed by using surface taxonomy theory. This study showed that the students’ analyses were dominantly on misformation analysis, followed by omission, addition, and misordering analysis. Misformation is the highest rate of errors found as it actually covers many grammar topics in english such as tenses, participle, verbal sentence, nominal sentence, part of speech, and others as analyzed by students on social media posts. Besides, no students found blends analysis, it might due to their lack of knowledge of blends itself. Key word: Grammatical error, social media, surface taxonomy theory

Abstract

The present study attempts to determine move dynamics types in teacher-student’s interaction. The research design employed in this study was qualitative content analysis. The data obtained were the form of utterances gained from teacher-student’s interaction in English classroom interaction from the second-year students of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjungbalai class XI IPA 1-3 totaling to 90 students and 3 teachers involved. The data were analyzed by following Martin’s framework of move in systemic functional linguistic theory. The findings of the study exhibit that there are three types of move dynamic found in teacher-student’s interaction namely clarification (cl)-response to clarification (rcl), confirmation (cf)-response to confirmation (rcf), and challenge (ch)-response to challenge (rch). The dynamic of move realized in the data happens due to some reasons such as the unclear information from the teacher, and the prior knowledge possessed by students. The findings imply that a teacher should consider having a dynamic interaction. This can help support the achievement of students’ success in the teaching-learning process. The dynamic of interactions in the form of clarification, confirmation, and challenge shows that students follow and comprehend the meaning uttered by student.

Abstract

Branding adalah berbagai kegiatan komunikasi yang dilakukan oleh siapapun pemilik merk (baik dalam kategori bisnis, organisasi, layanan masyarakat, lembaga pemerintah ataupun pendidikan). Branding bukanlah sekadar aktivitas biasa. Namun juga sebagai sarana dalam meningkatkan kesadaran merk dari sebuah organisasi. Politeknik Negeri Medan yang pada tahun 2021 menyambut Dies Natalis ke-39, merupakan momentum yang tepat untuk dilakukan program Branding yang juga bersamaan dengan spirit Lembaga melakukan berbagai kegiatan persiapan menuju akreditasi unggul dan berubah menjadi Perguruan Tinggi Badan Layanan Umum (PTN-BLU). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan informasi visual yang sesuai dan tepat sasaran pada momentum Dies Natalis 39 Tahun Politeknik Negeri Medan. Dies Natalis yang selalu bertambah umur, juga harus dicitrakan sebagai pembeda setiap tahunnya.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic is a dangerous epidemic and has become a global threat. To prevent the transmission of this disease, health protocols must be strictly applied. Based on observations made at the Aisyiah Bandar Klippa Orphanage, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, there is a problem that is still low awareness of health protocols as an effort to prevent the transmission of Covid-19, such as using masks, washing hands or using hand sanitizers after touching foreign objects. To build awareness of the health protocol, it is necessary to carry out activities through discussion, socialization, and counseling. Participants in this activity were 50 people consisting of orphanages and children from the Aisyiah Bandar Klippa Orphanage, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency. The method used in community empowerment is counseling and socialization about the importance of implementing the Covid-19 prevention health protocol as well as question and answer to listen to the complaints and needs of partners effectively. Based on the results of monitoring, there is an increase in the awareness of children and orphanages in implementing the Covid-19 prevention health protocol, such as using hand sanitizers and using masks when leaving the orphanage.

Abstract

Faktor kunci yang menentukan tingkat keaktifan belajar siswa adalah semangat belajar siswa. Semangat belajar siswa yang dinilai dari minat belajar, memperhatikan pelajaran, motivasi belajar, dan pengetahuan berdampak pada hasil belajar siswa yang optimal. Pandemi COVID-19 melanda Indonesia pada tahun 2020, menyebabkan segalanya berubah. Belajar di sekolah berganti dengan belajar di rumah, secara online, atau jarak jauh, menurut undang-undang pemerintah. Variabel ekonomi, faktor sosial, masalah kesehatan, dan karakteristik kepribadian, semuanya berdampak pada seberapa efektif pembelajaran online. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis aspek-aspek yang dapat mempengaruhi keberhasilan pembelajaran online, serta kesulitan-kesulitan pembelajaran online yang mempengaruhi semangat belajar siswa selama masa pandemi dan solusi yang tepat. Penelitian ini menggunakan tinjauan pustaka atau kepustakaan dengan menggunakan sumber data sekunder seperti buku pelajaran, e-book, jurnal, peraturan, situs web, dan sumber lain yang terkait dengan pertanyaan penelitian. Model interaktif digunakan untuk menilai data penelitian secara kualitatif, yang meliputi pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Siswa kemudian mengusulkan cara kepada pendidik untuk meningkatkan efektivitas pembelajaran online, seperti merangkum materi pembelajaran yang harus diunduh, menggunakan pertemuan virtual untuk menjelaskan teori yang sulit dipahami, menghindari tugas yang berlebihan, dan selalu bertanya kepada siswa tentang materi yang tidak dipahami, penyampaian materi terkait forum diskusi atau webinar untuk melatih beradaptasi secara online, menjadwalkan pembelajaran, dan menggunakan sistem atau platform yang sama dengan media pembelajaran online secara kelompok atau individu.

Abstract

Wabah Covid-19 yang melanda dunia telah memaksa pembelajaran di Indonesia dialihkan ke metode daring atau online. Dalam pembelajaran, evaluasi menjadi salah satu langkah untuk menentukan keberhasilan siswa dalam belajar. Salah satu aplikasi yang dapat digunakan secara gratis untuk membantu guru dalam membuat kuis dan survei online adalah Google Form dan Quizizz. Mitra yang terlibat dalam program ini adalah guru-guru di Madrasah Islam Swasta Al Jamiatul Ikhlas Kecamatan Datuk Bandar Kota Tanjungbalai dimana persoalan utama yang dialami mitra adalah kurangnya pengetahuan dalam penggunaan IT dalam memberikan evaluasi pembelajaran kepada siswa. Oleh karena itu, solusi yang ditawarkan adalah memberikan pelatihan online-based learning assessment untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan para guru tentang pembuatan, penggunaan serta optimaliasi pengunaan google forms dan quizizz sebagai media eveluasi pembelajaran. Program ini terdiri dari tahapan persiapan, pelaksanaan, monitoring, dan evaluasi. Dalam pelaksanaan pengabdian ini, tim menerapkan metode in-house training. Evaluasi kegiatan ini dilakukan setelah program selesai dilaksanakan. Target utama pasca kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah bertambahnya pengetahuan guru-guru di sekolah mitra tentang pemanfaatan E-Learning dan online-based learning assessment melalui penggunaan google form dan quizizz dalam mendukung program Merdeka Belajar.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research investigates the code-mixing phenomenon studied in the caption uploaded by the Duta Bahasa (DS) of North Sumatera on Instagram. The data source involved the last 3 batches of DS starting from 2019 to 2021. There are, 200 posts were found during their tenure as DS. The results of data analysis showed that DS of North Sumatra is not so dominant in mixing languages in their Instagram uploads. Yet, there were three types of code-mixing found, intra-sential, intra-lexical code mixing, and involving a change of pronunciation. Meanwhile, the variation of code mixing found were in several form of language-mixtures covered the foreign language-Indonesian or vice versa and local language-Indonesian. As the reason why code-mixing is used, the unavailability of the word in Indonesian and the use for translating function are the main reason in mixing language. Regarding the perspective on code-mixing, the interview indicated that DS of North Sumatera were both linguistic purism and socio-historical cognitivism.
