Abstract

Speaking skill is important for every people, the success of communication is depend on the speaking skill. This was aim at finding out, analysing and describing about speaking activities in English practice class for midwifery students at Politeknik Kesehatan Siteba Padang. This study focused on the teaching learning process in the class, the interaction between lecturer and students during the teaching learning process. This study also focused on the students’ problem with speaking activities The research design in this study was a case study. The data was collected through observation in English practice class and interview then the data could be analyzed completely. The finding of this study showed that in pre speaking activity, two kinds of activity did not find during observation. They were telling the purposes of speaking lesson and showing the format of speaking lesson. In whilst speaking activity, all of the activities were done by the lecturer and the students. On the other hand, there was no activity for post speaking activity. Besides, the students were shy and afraid in practicing Englih through speaking in class.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini berfokus pada pengembangan podcast dalam pengajaran speaking yang dilakukan melalui analisa kebutuhan. Penelitian ini merupakan tahap awal dari Research development model ADDIE yaitu tahapan analisa kebutuhan. Tahapan analisa kebutuhan dilakukan dengan metode survey yang dilakukan dengan wawancara dan penyebaran kuesioner. Wawancara dan kuesioner digunakan sebagai teknik pengambilan data. Wawancara dilakukan untuk menggali lebih dalam informasi yang berkaitan dengan kesulitan mahasiswa dalam melakukan interaksi dalam kelas speaking dan analisa kebutuhan untuk pengembangan podcast. Kuesioner digunakan untuk mendapatkan data kuantitaif mengenai kebutuhan siswa untuk pengembangan podcast. Studi ini melaporkan hasil kebutuhan mahasiswa dan dosen pengampu mata kuliah speaking terhadap pengembangan podcast yang akan dilakukan serta kesulitan yang ditemukan dalam pengajaran speaking selama masa pandemic covid 19.Abstract:  This research focuses on developing podcasts in teaching speaking which is done through needs analysis. This research is the initial stage of the ADDIE model research development, namely the needs analysis stage. Stages of needs analysis is done by survey method which is done by interview and distributing questionnaires. Interviews and questionnaires were used as data collection techniques. Interviews were conducted to dig deeper into information related to students' difficulties in interacting in speaking classes and to analyze needs for podcast development. Questionnaires were used to obtain quantitative data regarding students' needs for podcast development. This study reports the results of the needs of students and lecturers who support speaking courses on the podcast development that will be carried out as well as the difficulties found in teaching speaking during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze teachers’ extrinsic motivation in teaching and learning process. This research was descriptive research. In this research, this research used participant as the sample, the participant of this research was all of English teachers in SMA Negeri 4 Kota Solok. This research, the used three instruments to find the data, they are questionnaire, interview, and field-note. There are some results of this research; it can be concluded that teacher’s extrinsic motivation: first, the participants’ response, they were allowed to work independently, their school environment was conducive and it make them be comfortable. Second, the participants enjoy with their work, they were satisfied with their job, and they have good relationship with their manager and their students. Third, the participants were satisfied with their fringe benefits, they were satisfied with current salary, they had a job in which they could perform to the best their ability, and they would like to receive more feedback about their teaching from their manager and supervisor. Fourth, the participants would like rules and procedures at work to be clearer, the course material that they use offers variety in terms of activities and task, and they would like more involvement in the process of setting their students’ learning goal. Keyword: teaching and learning process, motivation, extrinsic motivation
