Abstract

One of the distillations of Lawang oil in the District of Elpaputih Bay still uses conventional methods. Therefore, through this activity a distillation process and analysis of the composition of Lawang oil (Cinnamomum sp.) was carried out using a modified distillation. Lawang oil (Cinnamomum sp.) was distilled using a steam distillation process with mace as a source of raw material. Content analysis was performed using GC-MS. From the results of the refining process with the modified refining model, an increase in yield of 47.2 % was obtained compared to the previous refining. Tests on the oil content of obtained show that the oil mostly contained eugenol, safrol, and 4-terpineol. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the modified refining tool has increased the yield of the oil produced. In addition, the compounds of the oil produced are identified. Keywords: Distillation, lawang, GC-MS.

Abstract

Treatment for laboratorium waste need to carry out for prevented environment pollution if accumulation occured in the world. Natural resources available in maluku like clay can used to treat heavy metal Pb and Cu wastes. This adsorben were clay from Ouw village in Saparua,Maluku. The clay were brown and black. Each clay were activated with soaked in sulfuric acid for 5 and 10 hours. The result showed that the black clay with activated for 5 hours in sulfuric acid had the best adsorb. This clay more effective for adsorp Pb2+ ion compare with Cu2+ ion. Keywords : clay, adsorben, heavy metal.

Abstract

The research about base activated clay and its application as cation exchanger to reducing the concentration of ions Mg2+ and Ca2+ in the well water has been caried out. Base solution used for clay activation was NaOH with variation of concentration at, 0.5 M, 1 M, and 1.5 M. Particle size of clay also have been variated at 40 mesh, 60 mesh, and 80 mesh. The result of this research shown that the best cation exchanging for Mg2+ was found in clay with 60 mesh particle sizes and concentration of NaOH 0.5 M, whereas for Ca2+ was found in clay with 80 mesh particle sizes and concentration of NaOH was 1.5 M.

Abstract

The research about analysis of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) metal content on sediment inner part of Ambon Bay has been done. Sampling point located at Dermaga Ferry Poka, PLTD Poka, Kate-kate, Waiheru, Lateri III, Passo dan PLTD Galala. The results of analyzed of sediment particle size inside the Ambon Bay showed 3 components were sand, gravel, and sludge, but the sediments was dominated by sludge sand. Analysis of Cd content showed that at 7 stations in Ambon Bay detected Cd metal with the highest concentration at 4th station of Waiheru village was 0,6640 mg/Kg and the lowest concentration at 3th station of Kate-kate village was 0,0980 mg/Kg. Meanwhile, the highest Pb content was 20,075 mg/kg at 4th station and the lowest was 5,755 mg/kg at 2nd station of PLN Poka. The content of elements composition of sediment are SiO2, K2O, P2O5, Fe2, BaO, NiO and Ga2O3 but Cd and Pb metal was not detected.

Abstract

The research on the biosorption of Cu2+ metal ions in brown seaweed biosorbent (Padina australis) has been done. This study aims to determine moisture content, ash content, biomass content, pH and optimum contact time of Cu2+ metal ions absorption pH and optimum contact time of Cu2+ metal ions absorption. The method used is batch method. The adsorption result of Cu2+ metal ions was analyzed by using atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The results showed that the optimum pH was 7 with 99.8308 % absorption ability of biosorbent and the optimum contact time was 5 hours with 99.5570 % biosorbent absorbency.

Abstract

The research about biosorption of Cadmium (Cd2+) metal ion in brown seaweed biosorben (Paladina australis) from Liti beach, Kisar island has been done. Analysis of decreasing Cd2+ content using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (SSA) and also use FTIR to know functional groups contained in alginate compounds. A total of 0.5 g of brown seaweed powder was introduced into 25 mL of Cd2+ 50 ppm solution with variations of pH 1-7 and shaker for five hours. After the optimum pH was obtained, the adsorption process was applied on pH 5 solution with variation of contact time 1, 3, and 5 hours, after which it was filtered. The result of analysis and calculation showed that Cd2+ ion was optimum at pH 5 of 99.64% and 3 hours contact time was 74.54%.
