Abstract

This paper is aimed to discuss how to select appropriate texts which fulfill the aspects to represent students’ competence. To help the students comprehend the texts, the following texts and exercises are expected to be applicable for teaching reading at Junior High School. Building Knowledge of Field (BKOF), Modeling of Text (MOT), Joint Construction of Text (JCOT), and Independent Construction of Text (ICOT) are four stages suggested in teaching English.

Abstract

The goal of teaching including teaching speaking should improve students' communicative skills. To achieve the goal, students in their learning speaking should be provided a lot of opportunities to communicate using the target language with both their teacher and other students. Therefore, the activities which occur in the classroom that intend to improve speaking abilities should be presented in interaction. In order to make the classroom interactions more effective, the importance of teacher talk is vital since the organization of the classroom and the process of acquisition are achieved through the teacher talk. This study finds that there are some categories of teacher talk and student talk in the teaching of speaking.

Abstract

The writer uses Crazy Rich Asian novel By Kevin Kwan as an object. This analysis discusses how the social class contained in the Crazy Rich Asian novel and its conflict on family life. In this thesis, the writer uses the social class and social conflict theory to analyze the novel. The method used in writing this thesis is a qualitative descriptive method. The findings and analysis that can be found in the novel about social class differences. This class difference is created because of the existence of social class, where they classify their social class, namely the upper class and middle class. Where the upper classes do not want to accept the middle class into their class. The difference in social class is measured by the power or wealth, privileges and prestige that affect the position, lifestyle, habits and behavior between the upper class and middle class so that the gap between the two classes is so striking. The conflict is the gap in social status in a family life or relationship. This gap affects the thinking of upper families who cannot accept any class lower than them to enter their families.

Abstract

Violence and murder have a very bad impact on other people. Violence causes a person to be mentally disturbed and makes a person traumatized by the actions they have experienced. murder is a very frightening event and a phenomenon that is difficult to forget if the incident is in front of us, occurs suddenly. Murder causes a person to be injured and lose their life tragically at the same time. The researcher analyses two main problems, namely how the description of violence and murder that occurs in the novel and the factors that influence it. This thesis uses a qualitative descriptive research method. The data is taken from quotations in the novel and related to the theory and these quotations will serve as evidence for analysis. The researcher uses the theory of violence and homicide taken from several research journals to analyze the data. The results of the study indicate that there are several important factors that influence the occurrence of acts of violence and murder, namely anger and frustration experienced by the characters in the novel.

Abstract

Struggle is one of the keys to success in life. If there is a struggle there must be success because success requires struggle or effort in life. In this research, the researcher analysis the Ikal’s struggle of life to become a successful person and factors influence Ikal to become a successful person. Objective of this study are to describe the Ikal’s truggle of life to become a successful person and to describe the factor influence Ikal to become a successful person. The purpose of this research is to illustrative evidence of life struggle in Ikal’s life. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data source used in the research is from conversations and paragraphs in the novel. Data collection procedures in the research are reading and understanding novel, categorizing and classifying the data and organizing the data. The result of the research indicated that Ikal’s struggle to get a master’s degree from European Union as has brought him to be a successful person are that Ikal always studied, read as many books whenever and wherever, he spends his time only studied to pass the scholarship. The factors do influence Ikal to become a successful person are competitive personality (Ikal having a very competitive spirit/ personality), working harder than most people and fate.

Abstract

This study investigated the figurative languages used in a novel written by Gayle Forman entitled "If I Stay Novel". The researchers analyzed six figurative languages; Metonymy, Symbolic, Euphemistic, Litotes, Onomatopoeia, and Idiom. This study is descriptive qualitative. The data were in the form of sentences gained by doing several steps. The first step was reading the novel. The second was to identify and find the sentences that belong to Metonymy, Symbolic, Euphemistic, Litotes, Onomatopoeia, and Idiom. The next step was underlining the phrase or words that belong to figurative languages. After that, in analyzing the data, the researchers classified the sentences into six figurative languages, analyzed sentences, and interpreted them. In conclusion, the figurative languages in this novel contain 42% Metonymy, 5% Symbolic, 8% Euphemistic, 3% Litotes, 13% Onomatopoeia, and 29% Idiom.

Abstract

This research is analyzed Daisy's affair in The Great Gatsby novel. It is common that affairs become a problem from the past till nowadays. It is also usually a problem that occurs in married life. Based on the background of the study above, this research focused on answering how is Daisy's affair seen in The Great Gatsby novel and what are the factors that caused Daisy's affair. This study is qualitative research. Therefore, the researcher described Daisy's affair seen in The Great Gatsby novel and also the factors that caused Daisy's affair. The data analysis procedures were based on research findings and discussion, the researcher concluded that Daisy's affair happened involved at least one of the following three elements. They are confidentiality, emotional involvement, and sexual attraction. Besides that Daisy's affair is influenced by several factors there are internal factors that usually appear between spouses and external factors that usually appear from outside their marriage life. In this research, the researcher would like to contribute some suggestions to the next researcher, particularly those who have had the same problem some affairs being a problem from the past until nowadays, especially in marriage life. It is suggested that this study can be a reference for the next researcher.

Abstract

This study discusses the meaning of life, travel and advocacy about the main character. The researcher was interested in analyzing the ambition of main character in the novel Robinson Crusoe from Daniel Defoe because the main character in the novel Robinson Crusoe interpreted a man in real life. Researchers who have succeeded in finding meaning behind characters are always a mystery. A person's ambition can be influenced by several factors. To know ambition, humans are required to know themselves. Many writers try to express their ideas about life, one of which is Daniel Defoe in his novel titled Robinson Crusoe. He described the discovery of the meaning of one's life through the journey of the main character named Crusoe from one island to another. This thesis focuses on the ambitions of Robinson Crusoe in traveling, Crusoe who guides himself to find the meaning of his life. Crusoe really wants to sail with the purpose of his life can change but Crusoe does not know what happened on the trip, the purpose of this thesis is to describe the character of Crusoe and the background that caused him to travel and describe the experiences experienced by Crusoe in his journey so he managed to formulate the value of life that led him to find his identity and meaning in life as a human being.

Abstract

The researchers are interested in analyzing symbolism in poem. Symbolism usually used by the poet to hide the original meaning of his writing. Symbolism is also interpreted as a sentence that has a broader meaning than the explanation of the original sentence. In this study, the researchers focus to analyze the meaning of symbols in masterpieces of Robert Frost's poems. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Fifth masterpieces of Robert Frost’s Poems are On A The Rose Family, A Minor Bird, Stopping by Woods On a Snowy Evening, Fire and Ice, and Nothing Gold Can Stay. Those poems tell about human life that has many obstacles before it reaches the purpose of life he wants. In conclusion, the symbols are found in Masterpieces of Robert Frost's poems indicate almost same meaning or some theme that is a way of life that must be passed. In addition, Robert Frost's poems have a moral message relating to life and human.

Abstract

Taman Kanak- Kanak Desa Gapuro Sukolilo merupakan salah satu sekolah yang dimiliki oleh Desa Gapuro Sukolilodan memiliki potensi pengembangan di bidang pendidikan. Didalam meningkatkan mutu dibidang pendidikan, TK Gapuro Sukolilo membuat suatu kegiatan ekstrakulikuler Bahasa Inggris untuk peserta didiknya. Akan tetapi berdasarkan hasil observasi dan interview diperoleh hasil bahwa sekolah ini mengalami kesulitan dalam pendampingan belajar bahasa Inggris dimana belum adanya tenaga pengajar bahasa Inggris untuk siswa mereka dan bagaimana mengajarkan bahasa Inggris untuk siswa yang berusia 3-5 tahun.Untuk menghadapi masalah ini, tim KKN-05 Desa Gapuro sukolilo menyusun sebuah program yang diberi nama E-Funtastic yaitu English Fun and Fantastic. Program ini merupakan program pendampingan untuk belajar bahasa Inggris untuk siswa kelompok A, B dan Kelompok bermain (KB) dengan metode Active Joyful Based Learning (AJBL). Untuk melaksanakan program ini dilakukan tahap persiapan meliputi persiapan materi ajar dan media pembelajaran. Kedua, tahap pelaksanaan program kerja dimana program ini dilaksanakan selama tiga hari bertempat di TK Gapuro Sukolilo. Terakhir adalah evaluasi hasil. Adapun hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan ini adalah program pendampingan belajar bahasa Inggris berbentuk sebuah jasa yang memberikan solusi dan kontribusi nyata bagi Taman Kanak-Kanak Gapuro Sukolilo dimana guru mengalami kesulitan dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris untuk siswanya dan di TK tersebut belum ada tenaga pengajar untuk mendampingi belajar Bahasa Inggris. Sehingga program E-Funtastic sangat bermanfaat bagi guru dan siswa dalam pendampingan belajar siswa khususnya dalam hal belajar bahasa Inggris.
