Abstract

Abstract

Kersen (Mutingia calabura L.) is a plant that can be used as a raw material for medicine because it has many medicinal benefits. Kersen as a medicinal raw material must pass a quality parameter testing process to be safe to use. One of the extract quality parameters is the total plate count for microbial (ALT) and yeast contamination (AKK). This study aims to evaluate the suitability of microbial and yeast contamination in the water extract of Kersen leaves to the applicable regulations. Extraction of Kersen leaves used maceration method with water solvent for 3 days with a ratio of 1:10. The results obtained from the water extract of Kersen leaves are organoleptically in the form of thick extract, dark brown in color, sour taste, bitter, and has a distinctive odor. The ALT value in the aqueous extract of cherry leaves was 8.4 x 10⁴ colonies/g. The AKK value in the aqueous extract of cherry leaves was 102 colonies/g which was reported as an approximate AKK value. The ALT and AKK values in the water extract of Kersen leaves meet the safety and quality requirements of traditional medicine.

Abstract

Soursop leaves have acetogenin compounds that can be used to fight cancer in the presence of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) inhibition. Acetogenin is a long-chain fatty acid derivative (C23 or C34) which is very difficult to dissolve in water so that it will cause low oral bioavailability. The use of Selfnanoemulsifying Drug Delivery System (SNEDDS) as a drug delivery system can increase bioavailability and increase the solubility of a drug. Optimization of the use of VCO as the oil phase, tween 80 as surfactant and propylene glycol as co-surfactant in the SNEDDS formula using the Simplex Lattice Design method. The responses used in the optimization are % transmittance and emulsification time. Verification of the optimal SNEDDS formula obtained with one sample t-test. The optimal formula of SNEDDS ethyl acetate fraction of soursop leaves was tested for particle size with Partcle Size Analyzer, zeta potential with zeta sizer and antioxidant activity using ABTS. The optimal formula was obtained at the concentration of the components of VCO oil (0.56 ml), Surfactant (3.50 ml), and Propylene glycol (0.93 ml) with a desirability value of 0.769. The results of the verification of the optimal formula show that there is no significant difference between the prediction and the actual, which means that the Simplex Lattice Design method is valid and can describe the % transmittance response and emulsification time of SNEDDS ethyl acetate fraction of soursop leaves. The optimal formula for SNEDDS has an emulsification time of 53±1.527 seconds, transmittance value of % 96.3±0.360%. The particle size results obtained from the optimal formula were 13.83 nm ± 0.650, the polydispersity index was 0.143 ± 0.128. The zeta potential test results obtained were -0.23 mV ± 0.057. The optimal formula for the ethyl acetate fraction of soursop leaf SNEDDS has a very strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 16.89 ppm.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the diseases that is still a health problem in Central Java Province is Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). Surakarta is the city with the highest death rate (CFR) due to dengue fever in Central Java Province at 14.6%. Lack of knowledge and awareness of dengue fever is one of the causes of the high number of dengue fever cases. This service activity was carried out as an effort to prevent dengue fever by increasing community knowledge through Family Welfare Development (PKK) cadres regarding dengue fever and the use of herbal plants in the environment to prevent dengue fever. Community service was carried out in Pucang Sawit Village, Jebres, Surakarta which was attended by representatives from each Neighborhood Association (RT). Starting with counseling about dengue fever and the use of natural ingredients for dengue fever, especially the lemongrass plant, then continued with the practice of making repellent spray products from the lemongrass plant. Evaluation of the service implementation process is carried out by carrying out pre-tests and post-tests by service participants to determine the level of participants' knowledge of dengue fever and the use of Serai as a repellant, before and after service activities. The average pre-test and post-test scores obtained were 80.31 and 89.69 respectively. This value shows an increase in community knowledge before and after the extension activities were carried out.
