Abstract

This research aims to analyze and formulate rules of change that occur in Arabic borrowings in English phonologically. Thus research can describes vocal sound changes in Arabic borrowings in English. This research is to answer the question such as how are the process of monophthong and diphthong vowel changes in Arabic borrowings in English. This research is a qualitative type which is analyzed and written descriptively to answer how the process of changing phonologically with a method consisting of three stages, namely: (1) data codification method, (2) data analysis method, and (3) method of presenting the results of data analysis and the data source used by researcher froms Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary and Al-Maurid: A Modern Arabic-English Dictionary, and also from magazines such as Time, Bloomberg Business Week, and News Scientist. The result findings are 103 words in Arabic borrowings in English that were analyzed, it was found phonological changes on monophthong and diphthong vowel sounds caused by the unavailability of the type of Arabic sound in English and the influence of sound falling before and after it.

Abstract

Abstract Kasidah is one of Islamic music that made by the friends of Anshor in Madina to welcome the arrival of Rasulullah as their happiness.Before the advent of Islam, the Arabs used this art as art because they are hereditary predilection them in the form of Arabic poetry.Arabiah of the peninsula, to Persia, then to Turkey and eventually to the Nusantara brought the merchants. The next development of this art is used as a media of da?wa in the kingdom of Demak by Walisongo, and is still used as a folk entertainment arts Indonesia. Cultural contiguity between nations experiencing made it acculturation of art. In addition, the times have made this art growing and experiencing innovations, ranging from packaging, display, musical instruments, to the lyrics. However, some kasidah are unchanged from its basic form. There is a traditional kasidah, and there is also a modern kasidah. Both kinds of these kasidah by Muslims of the past until now used as a media of da?wa in the onslaught of Western art that goes into the Nusantara.   Abstraksi Kasidah adalah salah satu kesenian Islam yang dijadikan para sahabat Anshor di Madinah dalam menyambut Rasulullah sebagai bentuk kesenangan. Sebelum kedatangan Islam, kesenian ini dijadikan bangsa Arab sebagai kesenian yang turun-temurun kerena kegemaran mereka pada bentuk puisi Arab.Dari Jazirah Arab, ke Persia, lalu ke Turki dan akhirnya ke Nusantara dibawa para saudagar. Perkembangan berikutnya kesenian ini dijadikan media dakwah di Kerajaan Demak oleh para Walisongo, dan hingga kini masih dijadikan kesenian hiburan rakyat Indonesia.Persentuhan budaya antar bangsa menjadikan kesenian ini mengalami akulturasi seni. Disamping itu, perkembangan zaman telah menjadikan kesenian ini kian berkembang dan mengalami inovasi, mulai dari kemasan, tampilan, alat musik, hingga lirik lagunya. Namun demikian, kasidah ada pula yang tidak mengalami perubahan dari bentuk dasarnya. Ada kasidah tradisional, dan ada pula kasidah modern. Kedua macam kasidah ini oleh umat Islam dari dulu hingga kini dijadikan sebagai media dakwah di tengah gempuran kesenian Barat yang masuk ke Nusantara.

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate kind and the meaning of presupposition that occur in Frozen Movie Script by using pragmatics approach. The objectives of this study are 1) To find the types of the presupposition that used in the main characters in frozen movie script. 2) To describe the interpretation meaning of the presuppositions that found in Frozen movie script. This study is qualitative research applying content analysis. The data analysis was conducted by watching the movie from beginning until the end. In this research, the writer used distributional method to select utterance in the movie script to classify the data into kinds of presupposition and writer also used distributional method to analyze the data. The findings of this research are 50 utterance were found, there are 15 existential presupposition, 4 factive presupposition, 2 non factive presupposition,9 lexical presupposition, 17 structural presupposition, and 3 counterfactual presupposition. To know the interpretation meaning of presupposition the writer watching the movie from the beginning until the end of the movie, she read and analyze the script of the movie, then she relates to the situation and context that occurs in the storyline. Therefor she concluded that every presupposition produce it has meaning that want to send by speaker to listener, every presupposition it can depends on the condition or the situation when the speaker said the utterance.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know English lexical loanwords into Indonesian languages in tourism magazine. In this research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative method where she describes the corpus of English lexical loanwords into Indonesian languages in tourism magazine, suc as 9 loanwords from three tourism magazines of English lexical such as Intisari, Tamasya and Jalan-Jalan. The loanword of English lexical is not entirely derived from English itself but from French, Dutch, Latin and others. In tourism magazines use the loanword of English because of prestige. The English loanword made in Indonesian has more prestige.

Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the shifting of teaching-learning process replacing with E-learning. This research aimed to knowing the students' perception and motivation towards English E-Learning during Covid-19 pandemic at MTSN 1 Serang City. This research generally answered two questions as follows: 1) What are students’ perception toward English E-learning during covid-19 pandemic? 2) How are students’ motivation toward English E-learning during covid-19 pandemic?. In this research the technique of collecting data researcher used interview and questionnaire method. There were 20 students of ninth graders at MTSN 1 Serang City participated in this research. The research instrument of this research is researcher herself. Since this research explored the students’ perception and motivation which coming from the students’ experiences during covid-19 pandemic, this research was applied descriptive qualitative design. The findings from the data analysis, students give positive perception toward English E-learning, because the process of learning English is easier with E-learning and E-learning can foster students’ interest and motivated in learning English. Even though students found problems in implementing English E-learning, students also found learning English through E-Learning is quite effective.

Abstract

Abstract: This research was analyzed English lexical borrowings in the Indonesian tourism field. This research aims to classify and analyze the kinds of semantic changes that happen in the borrowed English tourism field in Indonesian. The method used was descriptive-qualitative content analysis to the corpus of data in the tourism field. The unit of analysis is the corpus of tourism fields collected from Indonesian magazines in June – July 2019, such as Intisari, tamasya, and Jalan – jalan. The result findings are 25 words meanings such as 12 words did not find changes of meaning and 13 words found changes of meaning of the tourism register in English adopted into Indonesian languages, such as extension, narrowing, degeneration, and regeneration. It means that Indonesian borrowed the foreign words, whose concept is adapted to the Indonesian. In Indonesian tourism field in semantic changes is adopted to the social condition.

Abstract

Abstract: Many forms of greeting in Indonesian language (twenty-three kinds) in the second pronoun (six kinds) and kinship terms (seventeen kinds) reflects many strata in Indonesian society that is "feudalistic" in which different languages such as the use of greeting used to speak or greet the other person who has different strata or classes. This paper is a comparative analysis of both forms of pronouns and kinship terms are used as a form of greeting in Indonesian as a substitute for "you" in English. Provide classification and description of both pronouns and kinship terms are used as a form of greeting to do with the dimension of "you" in terms of quantity, formality, and gender.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out the students’ perception of Google Translate in online English learning. The formulation problem of this study is how are the students’ perception of Google Translate as translation tool in online English learning process? This research was conducted through survey method. The participants of this study were 4th semester students who taken Translation class in English Education Departement, Faculty of Education and Teachers Training, Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. The data of students’ perception of Google Translate as translation tool in online English learning were obtained by questionnaire and interview. The results of this study indicate that students give a positive perception of Google Translate as translation tool in learning English. The statement that gets the most answers are Agree with the result of the data is 28.86%. The positive assessment of the respondents come from their experience in learning English by using Google Translate. They are greatly helped in the learning process when the lecturer asks and explains the material about the translation. Since they do not know the meaning, they immediately consult to the Google Translate. This research also reveals that Google Translate is very useful for students to enhance new vocabularies. They, nevertheless, still pay attention to the results of the translation from Google Translate by looking at the word equivalence, accuracy, and uncluttered sentence structure.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the kinds of pre-reading strategy used by the teacher and how to apply pre-reading strategy in teaching reading comprehension. The formulated problems of this study were: (1) What kinds of pre-reading strategies are used by the teacher? (2) How is a pre-reading strategy applied for teaching reading comprehension? This research was conducted through qualitative research. The type of research was specifically a case study. The participants of this study were 33 students and one English teacher at the ninth-grade students of SMPN 1 Mancak, Serang. Observations and interviews were used to collect the data. The findings of the study indicated the teachers apply several kinds of pre-reading strategies, such as brainstorming, pre-teaching vocabulary, pre-questioning, and previews. There are some students who have barriers in reading comprehension due to lack of vocabulary. So, the teacher applied pre-teaching vocabulary to increase the students’ vocabulary. Besides, there are those who have trouble applying the kind of pre-reading strategy known as pre-questioning. Pre-questioning seems to be the most difficult to apply in Junior High School student. On the other hand, other kinds can assist students in determining a topic sentence of the text.
