Abstract

Karena tujuan utama pembelajaran bahasa asing adalah agar siswa mampu menggunakannya untuk berkomunikasi, penting untuk mengetahui alasan-alasan yang membuat siswa enggan menggunakan bahasa asing yang dipelajari untuk berkomunikasi. Salah satu faktor internal yang diasumsikan oleh banyak peneliti menjadi penyebab utama yang menentukan penggunaan bahasa asing yang dipelajari dalam komunikasi yakni Willingness to Communicate (WTC). WTC merupakan kecenderungan siswa untuk terlibat atau tidak dalam suatu komunikasi menggunakan bahasa asing yang dipelajari. Semakin tinggi tingkatan WTC seseorang, semakin sering ia akan terlibat dalam komunikasi menggunakan bahasa asing yang dipelajari sehingga pada akhirnya akan membuat kemampuan berbahasa asingnya meningkat dikarenakan frekuensi penggunaan atau implementasi yang lebih sering. Tingkatan WTC dipengaruhi oleh banyak faktor diantaranya self-esteem, motivasi, anxiety, dan faktor-faktor individual lainnya. Oleh karenanya, guru bahasa Inggris sebaiknya mengimplementasikan strategi-strategi pembelajaran yang mampu meningkatkan WTC siswa sehingga siswa akan lebih sering menggunakan bahasa asing yang dipelajari untuk berkomunikasi.

Abstract

Students who learn English are said to be successful if they can use the language to communicate. Therefore, students are expected to be able to communicate using English fluently. However, in reality students rarely use English even in speaking class. The aim of this study was to describe students’ motivation in English speaking learning using E-Module in fourth semester of English education students at Muhammadiyah Kotabumi University. This research was quantitative descriptive method. This research conducted at Muhammadiyah Kotabumi University. The sample were 44 students who were determined by using total sampling technique. The research instrument used in the research for collecting the data was a questionnaire. There were 50 statements in the questionnaire, then the score categorized into three categories such as low, medium, and high. The results of the analysis showed that there were 9 students or 20% categorized as low, 30 students or 68% students were categorized as medium, and 5 students or 12% students were categorized as high. It can be concluded that students’ motivation in English speaking learning using E-Module in fourth semester of English education students at Muhammadiyah Kotabumi University was medium.

Abstract

The aim of the research is find out seven reader response strategies can encourage students’ literacy ability through lesson study. The method of research is Lesson Study-based Action Research. While the subjects in the action research in this lesson study are the fifth semester students of English education study program which consist of 28 students. The instruments used are observation and test. The data used in this study are qualitative and quantitative data. Related to the result of students score in cycle one shows that there are 3 students who categorized in very good, 10 students who categorized in good, 15 students who categorized in enough, and there were not categorized in poor and very less. Based on the result of observation and students score have not good enough categorized so it needed improvement on the next stage or next cycle that is second cycle. Related to the result of students score in cycle one shows that there are 10 students who categorized in very good, 13 students who categorized in good, 5 students who categorized in enough, and there were not categorized in poor and very less. Based on the result of observation and students score have mostly very good and good categorized so it means that there are improvement from cycle one to cycle two.
