The implementation of online learning in Indonesia today becomes an alternative to the conventional learning because of the pandemic situation. However, it triggers some problems during the learning process. The problems exist because of various aspects. One of them is the way how the teachers implement the learning process. This research is aimed to investigate how students perceive the online learning implementation in higher education based on four categories (Planning Promotion, Education, Support Training, and Encouragement). It is descriptive-survey research using a questionnaire as the instrument to collect the data. The result shows various perceptions of students. The average students perceive: 1) implementation of online learning is well planned, 2) the lecturers are competent enough in implementing the online learning, 3) they got sufficient support during the online learning, and 4) the online learning situation encourages them in the learning process. This research result can be used as an evaluation for the stakeholders (lecturers and decision-makers) for the online learning implementation.

It means that the instruction not only focuses on facilitating students to build writing English proficiency, but also on leading students to become literate. Based on this context, it is important for lecturers to select appropriate and effective strategies in the writing instruction. Critical reading is regarded as meaningful and effective reading strategy which can be applied by academic writing instructors or lecturers in order to enable the students in writing an English-written paper. This article attempts to discuss why and how critical reading strategy should be utilized in literacy model of EFL writing instruction, especially in writing a research paper. By understanding the relationship between reading and writing, it is hoped that the activities in the EFL writing classroom can be more meaningful.

Abstract

Law No. 20 of 2003 defines education as a conscious and planned effort to create a learning environment that enables students to develop their spiritual, personality, intelligence, morals, and skills that are useful for themselves, society, the nation, and the state. Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching model that uses real-world problems as a context to teach critical thinking, problem-solving, and acquiring essential knowledge from the subject matter (Duch: Shoimin, 2014, p.30; Sudarman, 2005, p.69). PBL encourages students to learn actively and focus on applying knowledge in real situations. "Window shopping" is an activity in which students learn in groups to engage in discussions within their groups, and the results of these discussions are then shared with other groups. This means that students are not confined to their seats but are free to move around the classroom for discussions. This research was conducted in class XI-Science 4 at SMAN 2 Tanggul with 36 students, and questionnaires and surveys were used as instruments. In the first cycle, based on the observation results using a questionnaire, it was found that over 50% of the students had low learning motivation. Then, in the second cycle, the researcher applied the Window Shopping technique within the PBL syntax, and after this intervention, there was an improvement, with less than 50% of students having high learning motivation. In conclusion, implementing the Window Shopping technique within the PBL teaching model can enhance students' learning motivation.
