Abstract

CHROMATOGRAPHIC BEHAVIOUR OF CADMIUM-(II) IN HYDROUS CERIC OXIDE COLUMN. The potential of hydrous ceric oxide (HCO) in the immobilization of cadmium ions enables the compound to be used as an adsorbent for recovering 112Cd target in the production of medical radioisotope 111ln. Since the enriched-112Cd is very expensive, the dynamic sorption of 112Cd in HCO column needs to be evaluated. In the presented work, the HCO was synthesized through the reaction of ceric Sulphate and ammoniac solution. The reaction product was then heated and dried at 1000C to give HCO. A series of Cd(II) standard solutions was loaded onto HCO columns followed by fractional elution and determination of Cd(II)-content in each eluate fraction. The quantitative determination of Cd(II) content was performed by UV-spectrophotometry at 301 nm with a standard regression curve expressed as A = O.OOO1C - 0.0002. The chromatographic behaviour of Cd(II) in HCO column was characterized by dynamic sorption capacity, elution profile, recovery yield and total volume of the eluent. It appears that the dynamic sorption of Cd(II) increases if the HCO was treated with ammoniac solution instead of with 0.1 M HCL solution. By using NH4OH solutions (5 %, 10 % and 20 %) as eluents, it is shown that the concentration of NH4OH does not significantly affect the Cd(II)-elution profile. The recovery yield was obtained in the range of 94 to 100 %, while most the eluted Cd(II) was collected in the first and second- 2 mL fractions.

Abstract

PEMUNGUTAN ULANG BAHAN SASARAN 203Tl MELALUI PEMBENTUKAN 203Tl(OH)3 DAN 203Tl2O3. CHEMICAL RECOVERY OF 203Tl TARGET THROUGH PRECIPITATION OF 203Tl(OH)3 AND CONVERSION TO 203Tl2O3. High-enriched 203Tl is preferably used as target material for production of 201Tl medical radioisotope through nuclear reaction of 203Tl(p,3n) 20lPb –> 201Tl. Because of the high cost and limited availability of high-enriched 203Tl, a chemical recovery, of 203Tl from 201Tl processing waste is necessary. Method of chemical recovery giving final product as 203Tl2O3 is chosen due to reasons that 203Tl2O3 is stable and suitable for target preparation and the efficiency of the recovery can be easily determined. The chemical recovery covers the separation of 203Tl as 203Tl(I) from the waste matrices, oxidation of 203Tl(I), precipitation of the oxidized 203Tl as its hydroxide and conversion of the hydroxide to 203Tl2O3. The yield of the recovery was determined by comparing the weight of the resulting 203Tl2O3 to the initial 203Tl content that was previously measured by means of UV-spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 214 nm.From simulation processes using natural thallium, instead of enriched 203Tl, an average-recovery yield was found to be (80.65 ± 1.05)% based on the initial thallium used. The recovery of 203Tl from a mixture of pre and post irradiation wastes of 201Tl has been carried out giving a recovery yield of 81.02 %.

Abstract

The development  of  radiophannaceuticals  for  diagnostic  or  therapeutic purposes  waswidely growing as new phenomenon  in  the  in-body-Iocalization mechanisms of  radiophannaceutical preparation was known. Radiophannaceutical localization in target organs is not only based on usual physiological and metabolic processes, but some types of organ anomalies can provide "signals" that can bespecifically attract, accumulate and retain certain specific substrate compound, so the radiophannaceuticalhaving such substrate structure will be specifically localized to the target organ. This paper plainly presents the localization mechanism of radiophannaceutical preparations in the target organs into 2 groups, namely non-specific mechanisms that follow the nonnal physiological and metabolic processes, and the specific mechanisms that can be distinguished anymore as the process specific mechanism based on the characteristic biochemical reactions and tlJe diseases specific mechanism based on the characteristics of certain disease. The description of each group is accompanied by several examples and is expected to broaden the understanding and insight in dealing with and accept the existence and application of nuclear science and technology, particularly in the health field. Keywords : radiophannaceuticals preparations, mechanisms of localization, non-specific mechanism, process specific mechanism, disease specific mechanism.

Abstract

PEMISAHAN FRAKSI RADIOIOD DALAM PROSES 99Mo HASIL FISI 235U DAN PENGGUNAANNYA UNTUK PEMBUATAN HIPPURAN-131I. SEPARATION OF RADIOIODINE FRACTION IN THE PROCESSING LINE OF 235U FISSION PRODUCED 99Mo AND ITS UTILIZATION FOR PREPARATION OF HIPPURAN-131I. Production process of 99Mo from fission of 235U in RPC - BATAN produces non-moly radioactive fractions. which are classifiable into 3 fractions, i.e. : radioiodine fraction, radioxenon (noble gas) fraction and post irradiated uranium fraction. The radioiodine fraction is expectable to be used as a source for providing radioisotope of 131I, and, therefore, an effort for separation of the radioiodine fraction was carried out. The separation was performed by trapping the radioiodine in a copper-wool column followed by purification using charcoal column. The bulk solution of Na131I was then obtained by eluting the charcoal column with 0.2 N NaOH solution. The total activity of the resulting Na131I bulk solution was relatively low, presumable due to the escape of the radioiodine from the copper-wool column into the cold finger originally used for trapping the noble gas fraction. However, the pH, radiochemical and radionuclidic purities satisfactorily met the specification required for Na131I bulk solution. Radioactive labeling yields on Hippuran with the resulting Na131I bulk solution were also satisfactory, but the purification of the resulting Hippuran-131I using Dowex lX8 (Cl-) 100 - 200 mesh resin should be reconsidered because of the adsorption of Hippuran-131I by the resin.

Abstract

BASED RADIOISOTOPES AND SHARING PROGRAM FOR REGIONALBACK UP SUPPLY.As the owner of  the reactors used for radioisotope production, BATAN needs toincrease the effectiveness of the reactor operation cost that can be achieved by simultaneously exploiting allthe existing irradiation facility, supported by full utilization of the radioisotopes produced. On the other hand, the domestic demand of radioisotopes is much lower than the production capability but sometimes the requestis compulsory to be suspended due to reactor operation schedule. As this condition is mostly similar to that ofseveral countries of RCA Member States, a sharing program for regional back up supply seems to be apositive thought to support expectation on the effectiveness of reactor operation cost and the continuity ofradioisotope product services as well as the utilization of radioisotopes produced. Based on radioactivityachieved in each production batch at the present, 131r, 9~0, J53Sm,12srand 32pradioisotopes may be offeredfor back up supply program. Due to consideration on conformity of user demands with reactor operation andradiochemical processing costs, the concept of back up supply program should performed first by means offull utilization of the available products and not by increasing reactor operation frequency. An informationand communication network system, therefore, is absolutely needed to support infonnation exchange between the radioisotope producer, members of back up supply program and radioisotope customers.Key words: Radioisotopes production and supply, Reactor irradiation facility.Â
