Abstract

College students are prone to have poor sleep quality. This can cause eating disorders in students which can increase the incidence of obesity. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between student sleep quality and eating habits as a preventative measure to increase the incidence of obesity. This study was an observational quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. The subjects of this study were 107 students of the University of Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. Hamka (UHAMKA) with purposive sampling technique. Sleep quality data was taken using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire using the google form which was distributed to all students of the UHAMKA in September 2021. The data analysis carried out was the Man Whitney Test because the data were not normally distributed. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between sleep quality and fast food consumption habits. However, there is no relationship between sleep quality and fruit consumption, vegetable consumption, and consumption of sweetened foods and beverages. This study extends previous research regarding the relationship between poor sleep quality and the frequency of fast food consumption in college students.

Abstract

Indonesian government implemented large scale social distancing with the limitation of major public activities, except vital sectors, to control the transmission of Covid-19 since its first case on March 2020. The new normal period forced people to be ready for taking individual measures to protect themselves from the virus transmission, such as washing hands, wearing mask, avoid crowds, or even taking nutrient supplement to improve their immune system. This study aims to investigate the role of media and Covid-19 risk perception on driving the supplement intake. An online survey based on social media (WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) was completed by 715 participants on June 2020. The results showed that the supplement intake was differed by age, educational background, occupation, nutritional status, Covid-19 risk perception, television, and social media news (p-value < 0.05). In conclusion, dietary supplement intake is driven by risk perception on Covid-19.

Abstract

Background: The high prevalence of smoking is not only among adults but also among children and adolescents. Almost all adolescent smokers wish to quit smoking. They are aware of the dangers of cigarettes, tobacco, and other types so they are motivated to quit smoking. This study aims to determine the determinants of the desire to quit smoking in Indonesian students, using a cross-sectional study design. Method: This study is a secondary data analysis of the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) in Indonesia in 2014. The sample of the study was all students in grades 7-9 in Indonesia who participated in the 2014 GYTS and had complete data, namely 5,986 people. Logistic regression statistical test analysis was used to determine the relationship between the determinants and the desire to stop smoking in adolescents. Results: Adolescents who want to quit smoking are 92.1%. There is a relationship between adolescents who have tried cigarettes and other types of tobacco on the desire to stop smoking behavior (OR=11,3; 95% CI=5,216-24,615; p<0.025). There is a relationship between the dangers of smoking from family discussions on the behavior and desire of adolescents to stop smoking (OR=2,1; 95% CI=1,213-3,784; p<0.025). Conclusion: Family support and motivation can assist adolescents in reducing smoking habits by monitoring and reminding adolescents of the purpose of quitting smoking, and by inviting adolescents to consult and take therapy with Public Health Services.

Abstract

Stunting is a child's growth and development disorder caused by lack of nutrition, infection, or inadequate stimulation. One of the important roles in detecting stunting at the village level is the anthropometric measurement of length or height by posyandu cadres. This PKM activity was carried out with the aim of increasing the capacity of cadres in monitoring stunting through anthropometric measurements and proper assessment of stunting status. Kadubale Village is one of the villages in Pandeglang Regency with a fairly large number of cadres, namely 40 people, and among them there are many new cadres. The method used in this PKM activity is cadre training in the form of measuring the length or height of toddlers at the posyandu and assessing stunting status using an anthropometric rotary tool that is easy for cadres to use. The result of the training that has been carried out is that there is an increase in the skills of cadres in measuring body length and height, as well as increasing skills in assessing stunting status using a nutritional status rotary tool.
