Abstract

Purple sweet potato leaf (Ipomoea batatas L.) is one of the plants that has begun to be used as a traditional or herbal medicine. This study aims to determine the content of secondary metabolites from purple sweet potato leaves. This research was conducted at the Chemistry Laboratory, Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Islamic University of Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh with laboratory testing methods. Purple sweet potato leaves were extracted by maceration using 5 L 96% ethanol for 5 days and evaporated in a vacuum rotary evaporator to form a thick extract. Furthermore, phytochemical screening tests were carried out. The test results stated that purple sweet potato leaf extract contains Alkaloids (+++), Flavonoids (+), Tannins (+), Saponins (+), Terpenoids (+), and Steroids (+).

Abstract

Skin care is needed so that the skin does not become dry, rough, and dull. The way to deal with dry skin is to use a scrub or use a moisturizer such as lotion. One of the active substances contained in lotion preparations is antioxidant compounds. Avocado and aloe vera extracts have antioxidant activity. Avocado and aloe vera have moisturizing benefits. In this study, both types of extracts were formulated into lotion preparations. Avocado and aloe vera extracts were made by maceration method using 70% ethanol as solvent. The extract was formulated with 3 variations, namely the control formula (F0), the avocado extract formula with a concentration of 5% (FI), and aloe vera with a concentration of 10% (F II). The lotion was tested for physical properties including pH, homogeneity, stability, spreadability and irritation tests. The results showed that the lotion containing avocado and aloe vera extracts with storage for two weeks was stable. Does not change shape, smell, color, and does not irritate the skin

Abstract

Henna leaves are often used as traditional medicine, including as an antibacterial. Henna leaves contain several active components including phenols and flavonoids which act as antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to determine antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of henna leaves (Lowsonia inermis L.) against Staphyloccocus aureus. This research was conducted using descriptive method. In this study, ethanol extract of henna leaf was made by maceration method. Ethanol extract of henna leaves was tested against Staphylococcus aureus on Nutrient Agar (NA) medium using well diffusion method with 3 extract concentrations, namely 40%, 50% and 90%, tetracycline as positive control and aquadest as negative control with 3 repetitions each. The results of this study showed that inhibition zone diameter of henna leaves extract at a concentration of 40% was 21.29 mm, at a concentration of 50% was 23.1 mm and at a concentration of 90% was 24.4 mm, positive control was 27.93 mm and negative control did not show inhibition zone. The inhibition zone for all concentrations belongs to strong inhibition category.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest banana producers. Along with the high productivity of bananas, the amount of banana peel waste also increases. When harvesting bananas, the skin, stems and leaves of bananas (about 80%) are removed without further processing. This is lead to the high amount of banana peel waste, so that there is a need for countermeasures for banana peels to have value. The purpose of this research was to utilize organic waste into a product that have value. The extraction method used in this research was maceration. Banana peel extract (Musa balbisiana) is used to make solid soap preparations by heating, then adding oil and reacting with alkaline solution at a temperature of 50˚C, so that a soap base was obtained. The test conducted on solid soap preparations were organoleptic tests, pH tests, foam stability tests, phytochemical screening, and antioxidant tests. The results showed that the solid soap did not change shape and odor, and had a pH that was in accordance with the standards for skin, namely pH 9-11. The antioxidant test results showed that at a concentration of 10 ppm, banana peel extract had a higher percentage of free radical inhibition than Vitamin C, namely 58.54 and 5366 respectively.

Abstract

Face masks are a form of facial treatment that have been found traditionally to clean pores and improve facial skin, one of which is a mask made from soursop leaf extract. Soursop leaf is one of the cosmetic ingredients for dull skin care which is used as a mask to brighten the face. The content found in soursop leaves include phenolic compounds, alkaloids, and essential oils. This research is an experimental research, using a predetermined formula and carried out several tests such as: homogeneity, spreadability, pH, and irritation. The results of the formulation of the mud mask preparation from soursop leaf extract (Annona muricata L.) showed that F0, FI and FII gave good results. The results of the homogeneity examination showed that F0, FI and FII were homogeneous. The results of the dispersion test showed results that looked good, namely 6-7 cm. F0, FI and FII have the same pH of 7 and are in accordance with the pH that can be tolerated by the skin, as well as for the irritation test when the F0, FI, and FII preparations were tested on test volunteers did not cause irritation
