Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of humor as English foreign language teaching material to improve students’ speaking skill with of high or low motivation for the students and the effect that the use of humor gives to their teaching. This study was quasi experimental research named two-way (two-by-two) factorial design. The subjects were 80 students of STAIN Kudus, 40 students in the experimental group and 40 students in the control group. Both groups were distributed the pre-test to measure students speaking skill. For treatment, Shades (1996) classification of verbal humor was used. The results revealed that humor as teaching material has significant effect on the students’ speaking skill to those who have high and low learning motivation. The students expressed that humor in the classroom situation affected their learning positively to those who have high or low motivation rather than conventional material.

Abstract

This study aims at investigating the effects of Student Team Achievement Division Cooperative Learning (STAD CL) at eleventh grade students of Senior High School 1 Kudus and finding solutions and strategies to make teachers have a formed opinion of the use of STAD in delivering the subject matter while teaching to make more it effective.This study was experimental research. The population of this study was the eleventh year students of Senior High School 1 Kudus in the Academic Year 2015/2016. There were five classes from XI-A to XI -E. Each class had 35 students, so the total population were 175 students. Meanwhile the samples of this study were eighty students from four classes which were selected based on the historical factors and pre-existing ability. 80 students were choosen to be a sample, 40 as experimental group and 40 as control group. Both groups were given the pre-test to measure students' reading skill and after several times of treatments, both groups were given the post-test.The results of the study showed that there was significant difference between the means of experimental and control groups on the reading achievement. Hence, STAD CL was more effective than conventional in the way that mostly students developed their reading performance in the classroom. Further study may also be conducted to determine whether teachers’ use of STAD CL appears to reduce student anxiety and stress in the classroom to improve students’ reading or even other skills, retention, and student-teacher relationships.AbstractPenelitian ini bertujuan

Abstract

       Para pelajar atau siswa, waktu sebagian besar digunakan di sekolah. Mereka berusaha menyesuaikan diri dengan teman sekelas. Yang paling mudah dengan penyesuaian diri mereka adalah dengan melakukan tindakan yang sesuai dan diterima oleh teman sekelas, sikap dan perilaku yang ditiru ada yang bersifat positif maupun negatif. Salah satu perilaku negatif adalah bullying. Bullying adalah perilaku atau tindakan menyakiti orang yang lebih lemah, baik secara fisik, verbal, maupun psikis. Tujuan  penelitian ini adalah mengetahui faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan kejadian bullying pada anak sekolah. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif korelasi ini dilakukan terhadap 110 responden anak sekolah yang berkunjung ke MTs YPI Klambu dari tanggal 2 pebruari sampai 3 pebruari 2014.  Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah ada hubungan dengan kejadian bullying pada anak sekolah di MTs Yayasan Pendidkan Islam (YPI) Klambu dengan nilai p value masing – masing adalah 0.000 (faktor keluarga, faktor sekolah, faktor teman sebaya dengan kejadian bullying). Hendaknya pihak sekolah lebih melakukan pengawasan dan memberikan bimbingan terhadap siswa didiknya. Diharapkan tidak ada kekerasan antar teman di sekolah. Keluarga memberikan kasih sayang dan perhatian pada anaknya.Tidak terjadi kekerasan pada keluarga. Keluarga tidak menunjukkan percekcokan di depan anaknya.
