Abstract

As sea cucumber, Holothuria scabra is one of the fishery commodities which have high economic value, this species now is under overexploited. Sea cucumber aquaculture should be developed urgently. This research was conducted to evaluate the effects of stocking densities on the growth and survival rates of sea cucumber. This research was carried out  by using pen culture with 5 – 9 cm in length or 30 – 50 g of seedlings. The sea cucumber was reared with stocking densities of 15 (treatment A), 20 (treatment B) and 25 individual/m2 (treatment C) in triplicates. The observation of growth and survival rates were done every two week. The water quality was measured every three day. The result indicated that the growth and survival rates was higher in treatment A than treatments B and C.

Abstract

Abstract Pearl oyster Pinctada maxima is  one of the sea resource that has an economic value in national and international market.  Recently, many companies  have succeeded in producing hundreds of  thousand spat through hatchery. However,  mortality rate of spat in rearing activityies in the sea was remain high. It was caused by unfavorable handling of spat during the spacing process. The purpose of this research was evaluate the effectiveness of using frame net in spat handling at spacing process. This research was conducted at Luv Bay of Tual City, Maluku Province on March to April 2012. The observation was conducted to measure the shell growth and survaival of  P. maxima spat. The result suggested that the use of frame net in the spacing  process of pearl oyster had great advantage. Abstract

Pearl oysters, Pinctada maxima, are known as South Sea Pearl. Breeding is an important factor in intensive culture pearl oyster. In breeding, spawning became determining factor. The purpose of this research was to understand the effect of temperature decrease on the spawning level and to compare the treatment of water temperature decrease and increase on spawning level of pearl oyster P. maxima. The result showed that temperature decrease treatment influenced the success of the spawning level. Both water temperature decrease and increase had similar effect on the spawning level of the pearl oyster.

Abstract

Sea cucumbers are marine animals that live in the waters of the Kei Islands. Since ancient times, sea cucumbers in the Kei Islands have been taken and sent to China. The non-selective harvest caused the sea cucumber population in the Kei Islands to decrease drastically. Hatcheries are a solution in maintaining the sustainability of the sea cucumber population in nature and the high market demand. In hatchery, one of the most influential stages is nursery. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the nursery method that can support the productivity of juvenile sea cucumbers in the household scale hatchery. This research took place from June – July 2021 at the Household Scale Hatchery and the waters of Ohoitel Village, Tual City. The nursery methods tested were nursery of juvenile sea cucumbers in tub (Treatment A) and nursery of juvenile sea cucumbers in Pen-culture (Treatment B). In each treatment, 500 sea cucumbers were reared with a size of 0.3 – 0.5 cm. The calculation of the survival rate and growth are the variables observed in this study. As supporting data, water quality measurements were carried out. Through “T test” the result of T count (8.027) > T table (1.943) which means that Treatment A had a significant effect on juvenile survival. For growth obtained T count (1,149) < T table (1.943) which means that both treatments have the same effect on the growth of juvenile sea cucumbers.From the results of the discussion, it can be concluded that the nursery of juvenile sea cucumbers with treatment A was more effective than treatment B. ABSTRAK Teripang merupakan hewan laut yang hidup di perairan Kepulauan Kei. Sejak dahulu, teripang di Kepulauan Kei sudah diambil dan dikirim ke China. Pengambilan yang tidak selektif menyebabkan populasi teripang di Kepulauan Kei menurun secara drastis. Pembenihan merupakan solusi dalam menjaga kesinambungan populasi teripang di alam dan tingginya permintaan pasar. Dalam pembenihan, salah satu tahapan yang sangat berpengaruh yaitu pendederan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektifitas metode pendederan yang dapat menopang produktifitas pendederan juvenil teripang pada Hatchery Skala Rumah Tangga. Penelitian ini berlangsung dari bulan Juni – Juli 2021 di Hatchery Skala Rumah Tangga dan perairan Desa Ohoitel, Kota Tual. Metode pendederan yang diujicobakan yaitu pendederan juvenil teripang pada bak (Perlakuan A) dan pendederan juvenil teripang pada Pen-culture (Perlakuan B). Pada setiap perlakuan dipelihara juvenil teripang pasir berukuran 0,3 – 0,5 cm sebanyak 500 ekor. Perhitungan tingkat kelangsungan hidup (survival) dan pertumbuhan merupakan variabel yang diamati dalam penelitian ini. Sebagai data pendukung dilakukan pengukuran kualitas air. Melalui “uji T” diperoleh hasil T hitung (8,027) > Ttabel (1,943) yang bermakna bahwa Perlakuan A berpengaruh siknifikan terhadap kelulusan hidup juvenil. Untuk pertumbuhan diperoleh Thitung (1,149) < T tabel (1,943) yang bermakna kedua Perlakuan memiliki pengaruh yang sama terhadap pertumbuhan juvenil teripang. Dari hasil pembahasan dapat disimpulkan bahwa Pendederan juvenil teripang dengan Perlakuan A lebih efektif dibanding perlakuan B. Abstract

AbstractSea cucumber Holothuria sp. is a marine biota that has economic value. The rearing activity of sea cucumbers is still limited to the have bay or strait areas with relatively calm coastal. This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of two types of pen‒culture system for sea cucumber rearing to the influence of ocean waves and currents. This research was done from February to July 2017 in the coastal of Rat village, Southeast Maluku Regency. The two of cultivated containers tested were a conventional pen‒culture (treatment A) and engineered pen‒culture (treatment B). A total of 30 individuals sea cucumber seeds sized 4‒6 cm were released at each pen‒culture. Survival rate and water quality were also calculated as supporting data. Observation of endurance and clearance of pen‒culture was done every two weeks. The result of visual observation showed that conventional pen‒culture treatment A was more quickly damaged and it was more damaged compared to engineered pen-culture treatment B.Through t‒test we got T count (1.065) < Ttable (6.313) for survival and T count (0.084) < Ttable (1.782) for growth. The result means that treatment A and treatment B have the same effect onsurvival rate and growth of sea cucumber. The results showed that treatment B was better applied to more open waters than treatment A. Keyword: endurance, pen‒culture, sea cucumber, survival, growth  AbstrakTeripang Holothuria sp. merupakan biota laut yang memiliki nilai ekonomis. Kegiatan budidaya teripang masih terbatas pada daerah‒daerah yang berteluk atau berselat dengan perairan yang relatif tenang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan efektivitas dua sistem budidaya teripang dalam kurungan tancap terhadap pengaruh gelombang laut dan arus. Penelitian ini berlangsung dari bulan Februari hingga Juni 2017 di perairan Desa Rat, Kabupaten Maluku Tenggara. Dua tipe wadah budidaya yang diujicobakan adalah kurungan tancap konvensional (perlakuan A) dan kurungan tancap yang direkayasa (perlakuan B). Pada setiap kurungan tancap, dimasukkan teripang pasir berukuran 4‒6 cm sebanyak 30 ekor. Sebagai data pendukung, dihitung persentase kelangsungan hidup dan pengukuran kualitas air. Pengamatan ketahanan dan kebersihan kurungan tancap dilakukan setiap dua minggu sekali. Hasil pengamatan visual diketahui bahwa kurungan tancap perlakuan A lebih cepat rusak dan mengalami kerusakan yang lebih besar dibandingkan perlakuan B. Melalui uji-tdiperoleh hasil Thitung (1,065) < Ttabel (6,313) untuk kelangsungan hidup, dan Thitung (0,084) < T tabel (1,782) untuk pertumbuhan.  Hasil uji‒t bermakna bahwa perlakuan A dan perlakuan B memiliki pengaruh yang sama terhadap kelangsungan hidup dan pertumbuhan teripang. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan B lebih baik diaplikasikan pada perairan yang lebih terbuka dibandingkan perlakuan A. Kata kunci: ketahanan, kurungan tancap, teripang, kelangsungan hidup, pertumbuhan

Abstract

IMPLEMENTATION OF SEA CUCUMBER CULTIVATION IN MADWAER VILLAGE, SOUTHEAST MALUKU. Sea cucumbers or Teripang (Holothuria sp) is a fishery commodity that has economic value. Sea cucumbers are often caught and sold by a group of people in Madwaer village, Southeast Maluku regency. The value of perceived benefits motivates them (partners) to try to cultivate sea cucumbers by utilizing the coastal conditions in their village. Limitations of knowledge about the technique of making cucumber cultivation container, technology of sea cucumber rearing and management of sea cucumber business is a problem faced by partners. This activity aims to help partners solve the problems faced. The method used in this activity is elucidation, training and monitoring. From the results of the activity is known that partners have had the knowledge and skills so that they are able to make a good cultivation cucumber container, able to cultivate sea cucumbers and partners are able to do the management of sea cucumber business well.

Abstract

Sandfish (Holothurai scabra) and seaweed Gracilaria sp are marine commodities that have economic value and have good prospects in the market. These two commodities, if rearing together, will certainly provide added value to farmers. This research aims to determine the potential of sea cucumber polyculture, (H. scabra) and Gracilaria sp. which is maintained in culture. This research was conducted in April - May 2018 in the coastal of Rat village, Southeast Maluku Regency. Sea cucumbers are weighed and stocked on Pen-culture (measuring 4 x 3 meters) with a density of 40 individuals / Pen-culture. Gracilaria seeds are taken from young thallus which are tied into one clump and ditagging. After that, Gracilaria was weighed and spread in Pen-culture of 20 clump / Pen-culture. Observation of growth and survival of sandfish and Gracilaria sp done once a week. At the same time, predator control is carried out on pen-culture and water quality measurements. The results showed that sea cucumbers experienced absolute growth and survival rates of 18.20 g and 92.5% respectively. Gracilaria sp which is maintained does not experience growth, while the percentage of survival of Gracilaria sp is 20%. Based on the results of the research it can be concluded that Polyculture of sandfish, H. scaba and seaweed, Gracilria sp is not effective if Gracilria sp is stocked on the basis of Pen-culture.Keyword : Sandfish, Gracilaria, PolycultureABSTRAKTeripang pasir (Holothurai scabra) dan rumput laut Gracilaria sp merupakan komuditi laut yang bernilai ekonomis dan mempunyai prospek yang baik dipasaran. Kedua komuditi ini, jika dipelihara bersama tentunya akan memberikan nilai tambah bagi pembudidaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi polikultur teripang pasir, (H. scabra) dan Gracilaria sp. yang dipelihara pada pen-culture.Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan April – Mei 2018 di perairan desa Rat, Kabupaten Maluku Tenggara. Teripang pasir ditimbang dan ditebar pada Pen-culture berukuran 4 x 3 meter dengan kepadatan 40 individu/Pen-culture. Bibit Gracilaria diambil dari thallus muda yang diikat menjadi satu rumpun dan ditagging. Setelah itu, Gracilaria ditimbang dan ditebar pada Pen-culture sebanyak 20 rumpun/ Pen-culture.Pengamatan pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup teripang pasir dan Gracilaria sp. dilakukan  seminggu sekali. Pada waktu yang bersamaan, dilakukan juga pengontrolan predator pada Pen-culture dan pengukuran kualitas air. Hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa teripang mengalami rata-rata pertumbuhan mutlak dan kelangsungan hidup, masing-masing sebesar 18.20 g dan 92.5 %. Gracilaria sp yang dipelihara tidak mengalami pertumbuhan, sedangkan presentase kelangungan hidup Gracilaria sp sebesar 20 %. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa Polikultur teripang pasir, H. scaba dan rumput laut, Gracilria sp tidak efektif jika Gracilria sp ditebar pada dasar Pen-culture. Kata kunci : Teripang pasir, Gracilaria, Polikultur

Abstract

Sea cucumbers are an Indonesian fisheries export commodity. Sea cucumber populations that are endangered in nature encourage sea cucumbers to be produced through hatchery and nursery. Through nursery, it is expected that sea cucumber juveniles are stronger and can increase survival rate when stocked in growth containers or restocked. This study aims to provide better sandfish nursery techniques and local area characteristics to support hatchery activities. This study was conducted in May - July 2018 at the Hatchery CV Pesona Manir Rat, Southeast Maluku Regency. Juvenile sandfish 30-36 days old, rearing in hapa measuring 100 x 100 x 70 cm with a density of 200 individuals/hapa. In one tank rearing is placed one hapa. During rearing, 100-150% of water is changed and given one-liter Navicular sp. every day. Aeration was installed 4 points on each hapa and water quality measurement was conducted every day. At the end of the study, body length measurements and mortality calculations were conducted. The result is that sea cucumber juvenile which is maintained has absolute growth ranging from 1.98 to 2.1 cm with an average absolute growth of 2.03 cm. The average mortality obtained was 53.83% with a range of 53% - 55%. Based on the discussion it was concluded that this technique can be applied in sandfish nursery. ABSTRAKTeripang merupakan komuditi eksport perikanan Indonesia. Populasi teripang yang terancam di alam mendorong teripang harus diproduksi melalui pembenihan dan pendederan. Melalui pendederan diharapakan anakan teripang lebih kuat dan dapat bertahan hidup lebih baik ketika ditebar pada wadah pembesaran atau direstoking. Penelitian ini bertujuan memberikan informasi teknik pendederan teripang pasir yang lebih baik dan berkarakteristik daerah setempat guna menopang kegiatan pembenihan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Mei – Juli 2018 di Hatchery CV Pesona Manir Rat, Kabupaten Maluku Tenggara. Juvenil teripang pasir berusia 30 – 36 hari, dipelihara pada hapa berukuran 100 x 100 x 70 cm dengan kepadatan 200 individu / hapa. Pada satu bak pemeliharaan ditempatkan satu buah hapa. Selama pemeliharaan dilakukan pergantian air sebanyak 100 – 150 % dan diberikan satu liter Navicular sp. setiap hari. Aerasi dipasang sebanyak 4 titik pada setiap hapa dan dilakukan pengukuran kualitas air setiap hari. Diakhir penelitian, dilakukan pengukuran panjang tubuh dan perhitungan mortalitas. Hasilnya juvenile teripang yang dipelihara mengalami pertumbuhan mutlak berkisar antara 1,98 – 2,1 cm dengan rata-rata pertumbuhan mutlak sebesar 2,03 cm. Mortalitas rata-rata yang diperoleh sebesar 53, 83 % dengan kisaran 53 % - 55 %. Berdasarkan pembahasan disimpulkan bahwa teknik ini dapat diterapkan dalam pendederan teripang pasir.

Abstract

Teripang pasir, Holothurian scabra merupakan salah satu komuditi laut yang bernilai ekonomis penting. Teripang sering ditangkap dan dijual oleh Kelompok Salterai (Mitra) yang berada di desa Ohoitel, Kota Tual. Mitra juga memelihara (budidaya) teripang jenis ini di desa Taar yang perairannya bersifat tertutup (berteluk). Nilai manfaat yang telah dirasakan memotifasi Mitra untuk mencoba membudidayakan (Pembesaran dan Pembenihan) teripang dengan memanfaatkan kondisi perairan di desa Ohoitel yang bersifat terbuka (tidak berteluk). Keterbatasan pengetahuan mengenai teknik pembuatan wadah budidaya teripang, teknologi pendederan teripang dan manajemen usaha teripang merupakan permasalahan yang dihadapi Mitra. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk membantu mitra menyelesaikan permasalahan yang dihadapi. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini yaitu penyuluhan, pelatihan dan monitoring. Dari hasil kegiatan diketahui bahwa mitra telah mempunyai ilmu dan keterampilan sehingga mereka mampu membuat wadah budidaya pembesaran dan wadah pendederan teripang dengan baik, mampu mendederkan juvenil teripang dan mitra mampu melakukan manajemen usaha teripang secara baik.
