Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of triangulation-based metacognitive learning strategy on students’ chemistry literacy and learning achievement. This study was conducted by using a pretest-posttest control group design. The participants of this research were two classes of 10th grade natural science students of Senior High School in Pasuruan, Indonesia. One class was taught using triangulation-based metacognitive learning strategies consisting of four steps (Preparing, Doing, Checking, and Assessing & Following-Up) abbreviated to MLS-PDCA, and another was taught using expository learning strategy (ELS). Data was collected by pretest and posttest. Based on the data analysis, it was known that the N-gain averages of students’ chemistry literacy were 54% in MLS-PDCA class as the middle category and 38% in the ELS class as middle category. N-gain averages of learning achievement were 56% in experiment class as middle category and 40% in ELS as middle category. Mann Whitney U and independent sample t-test showed that the improvement of students’ chemistry literacy and learning achievement in MLS-PDCA class was more significant than in the ELS class. It can be concluded that MLS-PDCA can enhance the students’ chemistry literacy and learning achievement in senior high school.

Abstract

One of the efforts that can be support students in developing 21st century skills is to implement learning based on 21st century skills. In addition, another alternative that can be taken is to create, direct, and provide HOTS-based test instruments as an evaluation of learning. This study aims to develop multiple choice test instruments and essays to measure learners' Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) on reaction rate materials. This research uses the Research and Development (R & D) method with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) development model. The respondents in the study were 150 students of class XII MIPA one of the high schools who had received learning material on reaction rate. The results of the validity of the product contents show that the question instrument is 92.01% valid with an excellent category. The results of empirical validity show that as many as 20 items of multiple-choice questions and 8 items of essay questions are valid and have high reliability with Cronbach Alpha scores of multiple-choice questions of 0.723 and essay questions of 0.736. The difference between the question items from the two types of questions is categorized very well with 20 items of multiple-choice questions categorized as moderate, while in essay questions, 1 question is categorized as easy and 7 questions are categorized as moderate. Furthermore, the question instruments that have been developed can be used to measure the HOTS of students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the needs of teachers of SMAN 3 Sidoardjo in the creation and use of learning media in the teaching and learning process. The research method used is descriptive qualitative by taking data through a Google form-based questionnaire filled out online. The subjects of the study were 51 teachers of SMAN 3 Sidoardjo. The results of the survey based on questionnaire data obtained showed that the learning media used by the teachers of SMAN 3 Sidoardjo in the teaching process was made by as much as 72.5% and 27.5% were not made by themselves, so the media was obtained from Youtube, Google, and colleagues. The media created by several teachers has obstacles, namely mastery of IT (editing and programming languages), a long time in the development process, and its use has not adjusted to the characteristics of students and unites several media and materials in one platform such as  Learning Management System. Therefore, teachers need training and direct assistance in making intensive and simple learning media without using programming languages, flexible time, and accessible anywhere and anytime. Website-based media to accommodate all the material and learning resources taught so that students can easily use the press and improve their understanding of the material and the quality of learning So that teachers and students can adjust the scope and face problems in the learning process by the demands of the times.

Abstract

The Strengthening Student Pancasila Profile Project (P5) is an implementation of the Merdeka curriculum, in which students undertake a project to enhance their competence and character in accordance with the Pancasila student profile. The community engagement team from Malang State University links the implementation of P5 to themes and project objectives that align with the needs and conditions of our partners. Based on the results of a survey conducted at our partner site, one of the issues identified is a low level of understanding of waste management, especially plastic waste, within the environment of Sidoarjo Public High School 3. Consequently, expert guidance is required to assist our partners in conducting activities related to the production of organic pots from waste materials. This has led to the emergence of an innovation for utilizing and processing waste into organic pots, which can be achieved through P5 activities. The methodology employed in this community engagement project consists of three stages: preparation, observation, and implementation. Data collected include documentation, observations, and the results of respondent questionnaires, which are analysed descriptively and qualitatively. The results of this community engagement project demonstrate that students can generate creative ideas to produce a variety of attractive organic pot products from waste materials. Furthermore, the questionnaire survey distributed to training participants regarding the Pancasila student profile achieved a 100% response rate, indicating that the students comprehend the significance of the Strengthening Student Pancasila Profile Project (P5).

Abstract

Diarrheal is a disease that is widely endemic in tropical countries, especially in Indonesia. The bacterium that causes the appearance of diarrheal diseases is Eschericia coli. Plants that have the potential to be a cure for diarrhea are ketapang (Terminalia catappa L.). Ketapang seeds contain tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins that can be used as antibacterial. This study aims to identify the effect of ketapang seed extract on the activity of E. coli bacteria. Extraction of ketapang seeds is carried out by the soxhlet extraction method with a solvent mixture of water and ethanol 96%. This research is a laboratory experiment. Bacterial growth inhibition test is carried out by the phytochemical test of ketapang seed extract with the addition of FeCl3 solution showed positive results containing tannin compound indicated by the formation of a blackish-green colored solution. Positive control was carried out with amoxicillin and negative control with 70% ethanol solution. The results of the ANOVA test analysis obtained a significance value of 0.963, interpreted that there was a difference in inhibition power in variations in the concentration of ketapang seed extract with the most effective extract concentration being 0.8%. The higher the concentration of ketapang seed extract, the greater the inhibition against the growth of E. coli bacteria, therefore it can be used as a basic ingredient for anti-diarrhea drugs.
