Abstract

Beruwas laut leaf (Scaevola taccada (Gaertn.) Roxb has pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antioxidant, antidiabetic and anticancer. Although beruwas laut leaf have many advantages, safety is the main requirement that herbal medicine must have. This research was aimed to prove sebacute of beruwas laut leaf (Scaevola taccada (Gaertn.) Roxb.) about the function of kidney and liver. This research used 20 rats were devided into 4 groups. Group 1 as a control group and groups 2,3, and 4 as an experimental group by administration of beruwas laut leaf extract with dose 200 mg/kgBB, 400 mg/kgBB, and 600 mg/kgBB. The extract was made using maceration and sebacute toxicity testing was carried out for 14 days. After giving the extract, some of rats had diarrhea. The results showed significant effect to increase levels of ureum and CGT after administration of dose 400mg/kgBB. Moreover, administration of dose 600 mg/kgBB caused significant effect in liver biomarkers and kidney (GGT and ureum). It was concluded that ethanol extract of beruwas laut leaf (Scaevola taccada (Gaertn.) Roxb.) with dose 200mg/kgBB showed safe but toxic to kidney and liver with dose 600mg/kgBB.

Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 membuat berbagai perubahan pada setiap aspek kehidupan, salah satunya pendidikan. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan dan informasi dalam bentuk sosialisasi kesehatan kepada para peserta tentang vaksin Covid-19 anak usia 6-11 tahun. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di SD Inpres Antang 1 Kec. Manggala, Kota Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan dimana target peserta kegiatan adalah siswa(i) Sekolah Dasar kelas IV, V dan VI. Metode yang dilakukan pada pengabdian ini yaitu metode pendekatan yang berupa ceramah, diskusi, dan tanya jawab terkait pengenalan vaksin Covid-19 anak usia 6-11 tahun. Selain itu, juga di lakukan mini kuis untuk mengukur tingkat kepemahaman siswa(i). Melalui kegiatan ini dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan para siswa(i) SD Inpres Antang 1 Makassar tentang vaksin Covid-19 pada anak. Antusias siswa(i) sangat membantu jalannya kegiatan ini.

Abstract

Virgin coconut oil (VCO) adalah minyak kelapa yang diekstraksi dan bermanfaat bagi kesehatan. VCO dibuat dengan kopra, atau daging kelapa kering yang dikeluarkan dari cangkang dan ditekan untuk mengekstrak minyak alami. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi kepada masyarakat mengenai pembuatan dan pemanfaatan VCO sebagai alternatif pengobatan herbal. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di kelurahan Kalegowa yang keseharian masyarakatnya sering meakukan kegiatan di kantor lurah dengan memanfaatkan sumberdaya alam yang ada dan mudah untuk didapatkan. Metode yang dilakukan pada pengabdian ini yaitu memberikan solusi dan pengetahuan khususnya di bidang kesehatan mengenai pemanfaatan VCO sebagai obat alternatif herbal. Melalui kegiatan ini dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat untuk memahami tehnik pembuatan VCO dan manfaatnya. Peserta dalam program pengabdian ini sangat antusias untuk menerima dan meaksanakan setiap tahapan yang diajarkan.

Abstract

Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the most common ESBL-producing microorganisms. The research aims to detect the Tem gene in clinical isolates of K. pneumonaie from the Laboratory of clinical pathology of Wahidin Sudirohusodo General Hospital. Methods: This research is a descriptive cross-sectional design. Fifty samples of K. pneumonieae were obtained from the Laboratory of clinical pathology from March to May 2018. Tem gene was detected using primary Tem 164.SE and Tem 165.AS (445 bp) of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The research results indicate that 48 isolates are positive, containing the Tem gene with the highest number found in the sputum specimen. Genotype detection of bacteria-producing ESBL is essential so that antibiotic therapy given to the patients is more effective and efficient.

Abstract

There has been an outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia since 2022. This has really needed discipline in implementing health protocols and maintaining health to boost the immune system so that it can avoid bacteria and viruses by adopting healthy lifestyles, one example is by consuming vitamins. This community service aims to provide knowledge and information in the form of socialization and health education to participants about the use of vitamins in children. This activity was carried out at SD Negeri 91 Buluppoddo, Kec. Buluppoddo, Kab. Sinjai, South Sulawesi, where the target participants for the activity were (i) elementary school students in grades IV, V and VI. The method used in this service was an approach method in the form of lecturing, discussion, and question and answer related to the use of children's vitamins. In addition, a mini quiz was also carried out to measure the level of understanding of students (i). The results of this community service through this activity can increase the students' knowledge of SD Negeri 91 Buluppoddo about the use of children's vitamins. The enthusiasm of students really helped the course of this activity. It can be concluded that the participants understand the material explained. This can be seen from the level of understanding of the participants in the discussion sessions, questions and answers and mini quizzes

Abstract

Anggur laut (Caulerpa sp) mampu menangkal radikal bebas karena alga jenis ini mengandung asam folat, tiamin, dan asam askorbat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ekstrak anggur laut (Caulerpa sp) dapat diformulasikan dalam bentuk sediaan krim antioksidan dan memiliki sifat karakteristik krim yang baik serta untuk mengetahui konsentrasi berapakah sediaan krim ekstrak anggur laut (Caulerpa sp) memiliki efek antioksidan yang tinggi. Pada uji skrining fitokimia ekstrak anggur laut (Caulerpa sp) mengandung senyawa metabolit sekunder yaitu alkaloid, flavonoid, tanin dan fenol. Formulasi sediaan krim dibuat dengan variasi konsentrasi ekstrak anggur laut (Caulerpa sp) 0,5%, 1%, dan 1,5%. Pengujian mutu fisik sediaan krim dilakukan sebelum dan setelah Cyling test meliputi uji organoleptik, homogenitas, pH, tipe krim, daya sebar dan daya lekat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ekstrak anggur laut (Caulerpa sp) dapat diformulasi menjadi sediaan krim yang memenuhi syarat stabilitas mutu fisik sediaan. Penentuan aktivitas antioksidan pada krim ekstrak anggur laut (Caulerpa sp) dilakukan dengan metode DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-pikrilhidrazil). Hasil uji aktivitas antioksidan menunjukkan sediaan krim ekstrak anggur laut (Caulerpa sp) yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang paling tinggi adalah FIII (1,5%) dengan nilai IC50 4,86 ppm termasuk antioksidan sangat kuat.

Abstract

Klebsiella pneumonia is a bacteria that causes many negative impacts on health, primarily due to its tendency to develop antibiotic resistance. This research aims to identify the prevalence of the CTX-M gene as an ESBL marker of the Clinical Isolate of K. pneumoniae of Wahidin Sudirohusodo General Hospital. The samples consisted of 50 Clinic isolates of K. pneumoniae which fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research procedure consisted of DNA extraction, amplification, and agarose gel electrophoresis. The research results indicate that 38 samples (76%) are positive for the CTX-M gene, while 12 samples (24%) are negative or not found CTX-M gene. Thus, the prevalence of the CTX-M gene in K. pneumoniae resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics in Wahidin Sudirohusodo General Hospital is relatively high.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the toxic effects of beach cabbage leaves [Scaevola taccada (Gaertn.) Roxb.]by observing the histopathological changes in the livers and kidneys of male white rats. This study used 20 white rats which were divided into 4 groups: 1 control group and 3 groups receiving treatments in the form of Scaevola taccada leaf ethanolic extract (STLEE) in graded doses (200 mg/kg BW, 400 mg/kg BW, and 600 mg/kg BW). Toxicity test was performed by administering STLEE for 14 days. The results of daily observations showed that the experimental animals experienced diarrhea. Meanwhile, histopathological observations showed the occurrences of hydropic degeneration, fat degeneration, necrotic liver cells, and dilatation of Bowman's capsule in the animals’ kidney cells. It was concluded that STLEE at a dose of 200 mg/kg BW is safe to use, but is toxic at a dose of 600 mg/kg BW, both to the livers and kidneys.
