Abstract

The main transmission route of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is through individual droplets of respiratory secretions. Accordingly, the most basic preventive measure is wearing a face mask. Since the issue of medical waste during the pandemic is concerning, developing face masks made of reusable and biodegradable materials is necessary. This study aimed to develop "do-it-yourself" face masks and test the effectiveness of banana leaf-filtered cloth face masks. The design development was conducted by a series of trials for making a mask pattern that can be applied to the cloth. Then, we performed bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE) and water resistance tests to investigate the effectiveness of banana leaf-filtered cloth-based face masks. The dimensions of the developed face mask are 20x18 cm, with a semi-duckbill model, consisting of three layers of washable cotton cloth and a pocket designed for the banana leaf filter. Among 34 leaf-filtered face masks, 61.8% showed water resistance abilities. Based on the BFE test, the leaf-filtered face masks contained significantly fewer bacteria (the average of 0.417x103 cfu/cm2) compared to the cloth face masks without additional leaf filter (30x103 cfu/cm2). Thus, banana leaf-filtered cloth face masks could be considered as alternative protection during the pandemic.

Abstract

One of the most basic control measures to prevent transmission of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is that everyone should wear face masks wherever there are potential exposures such as public spaces and when there are suspected symptoms of COVID-19 infection. In addition to adherence to public safety protocols, community compliance in wearing face masks is mainly influenced by the comfort when the masks are worn. Several mask developments have been made to improve the comfort and function of the masks, including a modified cloth mask with a banana leaf filter. This study aimed to assess the public acceptance of this modified mask that we previously developed. We conducted a survey using an adaptation of the instrument called, the Usefulness, Satisfaction and Ease of Use (USE) questionnaire. The respondents consisted of 99 people from the Family Welfare Program and Islamic study group members in Tlogoadi, Sleman. The data analysis was conducted descriptively. The majority of the respondents agreed that the banana leaf-filtered cloth masks were useful, easy to use, and satisfying to be worn. The highest indicators were ease of use (83%) and satisfaction (83%). However, only a small percentage (30%) of respondents were interested in making their own homemade masks.

Abstract

Background: The incidence of asymptomatic bacteria in the population of pregnant women is around 70%, and the assessment of mortality in the world is similar. One effort that can be made is by consuming water in sufficient quantities to help rinse and dilute urine. This study aimed to analyze differences in urine levels (leukocytes and nitrite) as an indicator of asymptomatic bacteria before and after being given treatment. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-post-test control group approach. A sample of 32 people was divided into two groups. The intervention group was given scheduled water consumption treatment, and the control group was given an educational intervention related to water consumption. The sample selection using a survey technique means that all pregnant women are tested for urine, and those who meet the inclusion criteria are selected as respondents. This research was conducted in the working area of the West Sorong Health Center, involving 32 respondents who were divided into 2 groups. Collecting data using observation sheets Analysis using the Chi-Square test Results: There was a significant effect on the nitrite value (p-value 0.022) in pregnant women who consumed scheduled water, but it did not significantly affect the leukocyte value (p-value 0.904). Conclusion: Pregnant women who consume water regularly (2 liters a day) will have lower levels of nitrite and leukocytes than pregnant women who do not consume water on a scheduled basis.

Abstract

Abstrak: Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) Tahun 2016 merekomendasikan layanan Ante Natal Care (ANC) berkualitas, salah satunya merekomendasikan pemeriksaan Infeksi Saluran Kemih pada semua ibu hamil. The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2016 recommends quality Ante Natal Care (ANC) services, one of which recommends examining Urinary Tract Infections for all pregnant women. ISK If not treated immediately it can cause effects on the fetus such as premature, low birth weight, intrauterine growth retardation, IUFD, and increased mortality and morbidity. Urine examination is only done if it is symptomatic (symptoms appear), even though this screening is actually included in the recommendation for quality 10 T-ANC (laboratory test). Problem; ISK screening examination program has not yet been implemented at the Puskesmas. Purpose of service; to detect the incidence of ISK in pregnant women. Method; treatment and health check. Target partner; 40 pregnant women. Results; The majority of pregnant women are in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy, multigravida, and have secondary education and are aged 20-35 years. The results of the analysis showed that 18 (45%) pregnant women had symptomatic ISK and 4 (10%) women had asymptomatic ISK. Meanwhile, 18 (45%) pregnant women did not experience a ISK.
