Abstract

The disruption technology impacts industrious educational setting empowering more skills than knowledge. The online learning is another thing to do by the institutional education while the content of the learning materials reflect the learners’ need. The emergence of CLT led to the need of using English in more specific use such as for occupational or educational framework. Some studies deal with ESP focusing on teaching some specific kinds of language and communicative skills needed for particular roles rather than concentrate on more general English (Richards, 2006:12). The advance technology in teaching began when the internet dominates the human’s life. ICT offers a solution for educational institution to deliver their teaching and learning process nowadays. The online learning will give more impacts for language learners as they belong to millennium generation. Teachers should be aware of this because ICT is an important part of the development of teaching and learning (Wyse, Dominic et.al., 2008:237). Therefore teachers should use ICT as their tool to enhance their teaching and learning practices. This study concerns to develop 4.0 English curriculum by strengthening ESP using ICT in English classroom context.

Abstract

TEFL in Indonesia is conducted on the framework of improving student’s cognitive and psycho-motoric but less in affective activity. The shift from foreign language to multicultural language (Honna, 2000, 2003) is to build intercultural awareness (2008, p.72). In school pedagogic activity is designed to accessing its modes of implementation, its operation and its outcome (Leung, 1993). It emphasizes on the process thus reflection is beyond the focus. Textbook is made on the basis of CLT with the aim to teach communicative competence (Richards, 2006, p.2) by implementing Task Based Approach focusing on creating kinds of interactional processes in the classroom (2006, p.30). ICC is the goal of TEFL therefore an innovation is made to develop student’s ability to be socially and culturally competent speakers (Byram, 2001). The findings show that pedagogic task based adopted authentic as well as created situation and cultural values can boost student’s ICC.

Abstract

English learners who learn EFL to communicate in spoken and written way sometimes meet obstacles inorganizing their ideas. Ideas are not well organized due to different logical thinking which indicate that Indonesianpeople tend to use their circular thinking in saying and writing something. On the contrary, English people areknown from their straightforward thinking and saying. Those two things belong to culture in communication. As English learners, they have to find ways how to help them organize their ideas and one of the simpleways is by using graphic organizer. The graphic organizer is available in the internet in various designs but theimportant thing is it is used as the template for students to arrange their ideas before writing or speaking. Whythey have to do this? It is because the graphic organizer means saying something using graphic or arranging ideasinto an organizer. It is useful in pre writing activity for English learners. This study belongs to descriptive study which means that the researchers want to find out the phenomenonin using graphic organizer in writing class for the third semester students of FBIB evening program of EnglishLiterature Department. Abstract

Although commonly understood that diary writing benefits language learners in many ways, the use of diary writing as a medium for reflective practice in higher education is still rarely considered. The study aimed to portray the student's reflective practice through diary writing - to display how the student made meaning of her daily life and learning experiences. Employing qualitative case study, we observed one of our students reflective practice through her diary entries. Our study employed Rodgers summary of Deweys reflective practice (2019) as the theoretical framework. The data of this research was a handwritten diary of a student named Lana containing 30 diary entries written from September 6, 2018, to October 22, 2018. The entries were written in the period when she joined a Creative Writing class. The diary writing activity was mainly aimed to help the students in the class to build their writing habits by writing reflections of their daily activities. The result showed that diary writing provided room for Lana to carry out the reflective practice. This practice helped her to see and to understand herself as a learner. Also, Lana specifically expressed that diary writing helped her to have ideas for writing easily. Based on the findings, we argue that in the Indonesian higher education context diary writing needs to be incorporated in the learning process to benefit learners in their personal development and their language learning process.

Abstract

Reading children’s literature is a good choice for young readers because they have to get involve into reading process to build their habit and if this activity is done continuously, it will be a character. Reading will broaden young reader’s mind to accept all information from reading texts and one example is from reading children’s literature. There are many kinds of children’s literature written in L1 as well as L2 languages because EFL can help young learners adapt to use English in their daily activity. The choice to read English children’s literature will help them learn not just the vocabulary but also the values from the story, such as self-confident, honesty, friendship, bravery, and many more. Those values are some of philosophical values which are the important elements in building students’ character. As a descriptive study in which the purpose is to find out certain phenomena, we chose Randall Van Nostrand’s Helen and The Golden Bee as the object of the study. There are two problems focusing on Helen as the main character in growing her self- confident and helping others though she also experienced some conflicts, internally and externally. This study applied Ecofeminism approach in order to get the findings which show how Helen struggles through her conflicts to build her self-confident and made friends with other creatures, as part of the nature in the environment in which she created on her adventure.

Abstract

English is a compulsory subject in Indonesia. The paradigm in teaching English is started at a very young age. Teaching English for young learners in Indonesia is challenging becuase the teachers have to adopt and adapt English and Indonesian cultures through the curriculum and other instruments used in teaching. Besides teaching materials, the teachers also asked to foster the students’ mastery in using English so that they can produce graduates who have good English competency. In line with the increasing demand of the graduates who are able to use English fluently, the policy makers are trying to improve better national curriculum in order that the school can apply it and keep it on the right track.   Key words: competency, teaching instruments, curriculum
