Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop big book media to improve the reading skills of early grade students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Nahdlatul Ulama (MINU) Ngingas Waru Sidoarjo. The research method used is development research developed by Borg and Gall. There are four stages of development carried out in this study, namely: initial data collection, planning, development, and validation and testing. The results showed that the students' reading skills were very good. In the initial data of 39% reading skills and when intervened using big book media in the third trial stage, data obtained 85 percent of the average reading skills of students. So it can be concluded that the effectiveness of using big books is very good with a 46 percent increase in the level of reading skills of early grade students who have reading difficulties.

Abstract

This study aims to find out if there are differences in the use of big books on reading literacy between visually educated students and non-visual students at MINU Waru 1. This study uses a quantitative approach with a type of comparison. The study population was 84 students in grade 1, with a sample of 64 students divided into grades 1A, 1B, and 1C. Through observation, students are classified their intelligence levels and with tests to measure reading literacy levels. The results were analyzed using independent sample t-test that was previously done prerequisite test, namely normality test and homogeneity test, using SPSS application version 22. Independent sample t-test results showed a significance value of < 0.05 is (0.000 < 0.05) for the pretest, and a significance value of < 0.05 is (0.008 < 0.05) for posttest. From these results, Ho was rejected and Ha received which means there is a difference in the use of big book media to read literacy between grade I students who have visual intelligence and non-visual students at MINU Waru 1 Sidoarjo

Abstract

Teachers are a very important element and cannot be ignored just like that in the teaching and learning process, because teachers can determine the success or failure of a teaching and learning process. All teachers in any field including Mathematics need to have competencies to maximize teaching and learning activities. These standards and competencies are believed to be encouraged by each country to each teacher, considering how the role of teachers can implicitly impact the progress of each country. Developed countries that are known to have good quality in the field of Education Based on this, researchers wrote a comparative study related to the competence of mathematics teachers, especially elementary schools in Indonesia and in the UK. Researchers use the method of literature study. Both countries have many good competencies that need to be mastered. The form of quality assurance from the UK can be an example for the Indonesian state to prepare students in Indonesia to face the 21st century.
