Abstract

The study of papaya leaf extract as a carbon steel corrosion inhibitor in a crude oil environment has been investigated using a weight-loss method. The effects of papaya leaf extract concentrations and immersion time have been employed to investigate the corrosion rate, with a variation of papaya leaf extract concentrations of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 % volume and immersion time of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 hours. The results showed that increasing papaya leaf extract concentrations decreased the corrosion rate of carbon steel in a crude oil environment. While the increase of immersion time enhances the carbon steel corrosion rate in a crude oil environment. The lowest rate of corrosion obtained was 4.0152 mpy using papaya leaf extract concentration of 5 % volume at 5 hours immersion time. The inhibition efficiency also increased with increasing concentrations of papaya extract and immersion time. The highest inhibition efficiency was 65.54% at the concentration of papaya leaf extract 5% vol. at 5 hours immersion time.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to determine the affect of amylum concentration and immersion time on the corrosion rate. Amylum is used as an anticorrosive coating on carbon steel in 0,5 M hydrochloric acid  environment. Amylum concentration and immersion time affect the corrosion rate. The longer immersion time, the corrosion rate increases while the higher the concentration, the corrosion rate decreases. The highest corrosion rate was obtained at 3.58 mpy while the lowest corrosion rate was 1.24 mpy, Corrosion rates in metals can be prevented by the coating method

Abstract

The utilization of cinnamon bark extract as a corrosion inhibitor of low-carbon steel in seawater media was studied. The purpose of the research was to investigate the effect of cinnamon bark extract concentration and immersion time on the corrosion rate of carbon steel in seawater environments. The study was conducted at different concentrations of cinnamon bark extract, i.e. 0,1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 mL/L, and immersion time. i.e. 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 days. The research was investigated using standard laboratory corrosion testing material according to ASTM G31-72. The effect of cinnamon bark extract and immersion time was examined on the corrosion rate and efficiency inhibition. The results showed that the concentration of cinnamon bark extract and immersion time influenced the corrosion rate of carbon steel in seawater media. Increasing of concentration of cinnamon bark extract and immersion time decrease of corrosion rate. The lowest corrosion rate obtained was 0.0492 mpy which was received at a cinnamon bark extract of 5 mL/L and immersion time of 25 days. The efficiency inhibition of cinnamon bark extract was increased with increasing immersion time. The highest efficiency was 54,48%.
