Abstract

One of the diseases commonly found in the community, especially those aged > 40 years, is high cholesterol. This type of disease is a chronic disease that is closely related to people's diet and lifestyle. High cholesterol is also commonly found in children and adolescents with excess body weight (Listiana et al, 2017). Excessive cholesterol levels can cause plaque that clogs arteries and can cause heart attacks or atherosclerosis which will trigger stroke (Abidi et al., 2006). Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) is currently one of the health problems of national and global concern, the increase in PTM is closely related to the consumption of foods containing high cholesterol. In order to improve the quality of health, we make efforts to prevent cholesterol. This activity was carried out in collaboration with partners in Petukangan Village, Wiradesa District, Pekalongan Regency. The activities carried out are periodic cholesterol checks and deliver material about cholesterol, namely about the causes of cholesterol, prevention, and cholesterol phytotherapy. Before delivering the material, participants were given a pre-test with an average score of 6.4. After delivering the material, the participants did a post-test with an average score of 9.6. The result of this activity is an increase in public knowledge about cholesterol by 33,3 %. Participants understand more about the causes of cholesterol and can use herbal plants to prevent and treat cholesterol.

Abstract

Rhodamine B is a synthetic dye that is often misused in cosmetic products. These dyes can cause irritation to the respiratory tract, are carcinogenic and cause liver damage in high concentrations. This study aims to determine the content of rhodamine B in lipstick, blush on, and eye shadow in the Pekalongan Regency. The analysis used in this research is qualitative and quantitative analysis. Qualitative study using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) with silica gel F254 as stationary phase and mobile phase n-butanol, ethyl acetate, ammonia (5.5 : 2: 2.5) and then detected on UV lamps at 254 nm and 366 nm. Quantitative analysis using UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a maximum wavelength of 557 nm. The results of the qualitative analysis showed that three samples of lipstick (sample A, D and E), two samples of blush on (sample B and C), and three samples of eye shadow (sample A, B and E) contained rhodamine B. Rhodamine B levels in the sample lipstick A 0.00244%, lipstick D 0.00052%, lipstick E 0.00065%, blush on B 0.00239, blush on C 0.01091%, eye shadow A 0.00057%, eye shadow B 0.00140, and eye shadow E 0.00047%.

Abstract

Prevention of DM by controlling sugar and lipid levels is the main therapy. The traditional medicine diabetesherb from Kaliputih Batur, Banjarnegara, Central Java consists of 11 kinds of medicinal plants that are empirically proven to be efficacious for diabetes mellitus. The potion is prepared by the infundation method. Three control groups (normal, positive, and negative) and three test groups with different doses (18, 36, and 54 mL/kg BW) that had previously been induced by streptozotocin were created using Sprague Dawley (SD) albino rats. Using HE staining, observations were obtained on fasting blood glucose (FBG), superoxide dismutase (SOD), HbA1c, and pancreatic organs. At doses of 36 and 54 mL/kg bw, results analysis of biochemical parameters of FBG levels revealed a substantial decline (P<0.05). At all dosages of the herb, there was a significant change in SOD activity (P<0.05), and at a dose of 18 mL/kg BW compared to negative control, there was a significant difference in HbA1c levels (P<0.05). HE staining results revealed no distinct pathological alterations in pancreatic organ at the test dose compared to negative control with necrosis in the Langerhansinsula.
