Abstract

Abstract. Corn silk is a waste from corn plants. This part of the plant is widely used empirically for medication. This study aims to determine the pharmacological activity of corn silk extract. The research method used is a systematic literature review with literature searches on pharmacological activities that have been carried out in the laboratory. The results of a literature search show that it has pharmacological activities such as gout, hypertension, diabetic, and photoaging. Polysaccharides in corn silk can inhibit xanthine oxidase. Flavonoids in corn silk can reduce uric acid production by inhibiting xanthine oxidase activity, stimulating insulin activation so that it can reduce blood sugar levels and inhibit Angiotensin Converting Enzym (ACE) activity. Phyto Peptides in corn silk can lower systolic blood pressure by inhibiting Angiotensin Converting Enzym (ACE). Polyphenols in corn silk are able to inhibit the occurrence of oxidation in cells thereby reducing the occurrence of cell damage so that it can slow down the premature aging process which is characterized by a reduction in the formation of wrinkles. Abstrak. Rambut jagung merupakan limbah dari tanaman jagung. Bagian tanaman ini banyak digunakan secara empiris untuk pengobatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas farmakologi ekstrak rambut jagung. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu Systematic literature review dengan penelusuran pustaka terhadap aktivitas farmakologi yang telah dilakukan di laboratorium. Hasil penelusuran pustaka menunjukan memiliki aktivitas farmakologi sebagai asam urat, hipertensi, diabetes, dan photoaging. Polisakarida dalam rambut jagung mampu menghambat xantin oksidase. Flavonoid dalam rambut jagung mampu menurunkan produksi asam urat dengan menghambat aktivitas xantin oksidase, merangrangsang pengaktifan insulin sehingga dapat menurunkan kadar gula darah dan menghambat aktivitas Angiotensin Converting Enzym (ACE). Phytopeptida pada rambut jagung mampu menurunkan tekanan darah sistolik dengan menghambat Angiotensin Converting Enzym (ACE). Polifenol pada rambut jagung mampumenghambat terjadinya oksidasi pada sel sehingga mengurangi terjadinya kerusakan sel sehingga dapat memperlambat proses penuaan dini yang ditandai dengan adanya pengurangan pembentukan kerutan.
