Abstract

ZrSiO4 (zircon) material derived from natural sand has been successfully synthesized to produce single crystals. Structural analysis and phase change were studied by X-Ray diffraction. Rietveld analysis was carried out as a method of analyzing X-Ray Diffraction data. Zircon with a tetragonal crystal structure has been successfully synthesized to produce single crystals of ZrSiO4 with space group I41/amd. The results of the Rietveld analysis of single crystal ZrSiO4 samples with a tetragonal structure obtained lattice parameters a= 6.602727 (323) c= 5.978810 (317) with a crystal size distribution of 527.033 (0) nm and macrostrains of 0.001x10-4.

Abstract

Research has been carried out on the effect of adding CaCO3 as a filler in OPC cement (Ordinary Portland Cement) on setting time performance and compressive strength. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding CaCO3 as a filler on the compressive strength and setting time of OPC cement. The principle of this experiment is the addition of CaCO3 to each of the OPC cement samples, after which the paste is tested for setting time with the Vicat tool. Mortar samples were made to be tested for compressive strength using a compressive strength test equipment. The results of the addition of CaCO3 as a filler in OPC cement include, the optimum value was obtained when the addition of CaCO3 was 5.5% based on the results of linear interpolation with a blank ratio. However, it is safer if the optimum value used as a reference for PT Semen Indonesia (Persero)Tbk is 5.4%. The addition of CaCO3 to OPC cement can save production costs in making OPC cement. The value of setting time and compressive strength obtained still meet the standards set by PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk.

Abstract

The mechanical properties of (Polyethylene glycol) PEG4000 +10 wt% SiO2 have been investigated using DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analysis). SiO2 processed from natural sand was added as much as 10 wt % SiO2 as a filler to the composite and PEG-4000 as a matrix. The results show that the addition of SiO2 filler makes the mechanical properties of the PEG-4000 polymer as a matrix increase when influenced by temperature and frequency including shear modulus (G') and tensile modulus (E'). Composites (PEG4000 + 10wt% SiO2 quartz) are more resistant to tensile loads when viewed from their tensile modulus.
