Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a complex disease, a chronic disease which requires continuous medical care. To improve patient clinical outcomes and success in therapy requires an inter professional collaboration. Objective: This study was aimed to analyse the collaboration of physicians and pharmacists in community healthcare centers throughout Surabaya, especially in dealing with diabetes mellitus patients from pharmacist's perspective. Method: This was a cross sectional study that was conducted within 3 months in 63 community healthcare centers in Surabaya with 63 pharmacists as respondents. The instrument used was the “Pharmacists Collaboration Questionnaire” which contained independent variables from Collaborative Working Relationship (CWR) models including exchange characteristics with trust domain, initiation relationship and role specifications. The Dependent variable was collaborative practice. Data analysis used was non-parametric analysis with Rank Spearman Test correlation to determine the relationship between the exchange characteristics variable. Result: The results of data analysis showed that there was a significant relationship (p = 0.000) between each of the three domains and collaborative practice of physician and pharmacist. The initiation relationship pharmacists was a domain that had strongest influence on collaboration practice followed by specification role and trust. Conclusion:  Despite the result that all three domains in CWR had correlation with collaborative practice, further information about the real implementation of collaborative practice.  Keywords: collaboration, diabetes mellitus, intervention, pharmacist and doctor

Abstract

The increasing number of patients chronic and terminal disease such as cancer,COPD, stroke, hearth failure, degenerative desease, HIV/AIDS that requirepalliative care according to the 2007 Ministry of Health Policy. The application ofpalliative care in Indonesia is not optimal because there are still many nurses andthe community who do not know about palliative care. The purpose is to optimizethe role of nurses in screening palliative care and providing palliative nursinginterventions. This study method uses sharing knowledge and training withmeasured their level of knowledge about palliative care. The stages includesocialization, pre test, presentation, demonstrations, post test and follow up plans. The result showed that the majority aged 41-50 years old, female gender, educationbachelor, length of work 11-20 years, increase knowledge majority being good(60%). This community service is important to improve the application ofpalliative care in health services and in the community.

Abstract

Tamarind and Sereh wangi (Citronellae winterianus Jowitt) are widely planted in Indonesia. Citronella oil is widely used as an anti-bacterial because of its secondary metabolite content. This study aims to determine the anti-bacterial potential of hard candy with active ingredients of tamarind extract and citronella oil. Tamarind fruit extract was prepared by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. Hard candy is made in 3 formulas with tamarind extract and citronella oil 0,1% (F1), citronella oil 0,2% (F2), and citronella oil 0,2% (F3). Antibacterial activity of hard candy examined using the disc diffusion method by measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone for the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The result of the diameter of the inhibition zones F1, F2, and F3 for Escherichia coli were 4.25, 4.38, and 5.35 mm, respectively. The the diameter of the inhibition zones F1, F2, and F3 for Staphylococcus aureus were 2.30, 2.67 and 2.90 mm, respectively . It was showed that hard candy with active ingredients of tamarind extract and citronella oil was able to inhibit the growth of bacteria. The difference in the diameter of the inhibition zone between the formulas was analyzed using One Way Anova. The significance value is <0.05, so there is a significant difference in anti-bacterial activity between formulas. The concentration of citronella oil influence on antibacterial activity where the greater the concentration of citronella oil, the antibacterial activity to Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli will increase. Keywords: Citronella oil, Tamarind, Hard Candy, Antibacterial.
