Abstract

Keberhasilan pembelajaran ditentukan oleh beberapa komponen, salah satunya adalah penilaian. Penilaian merupakan salah satu komponen penting dalam proses pembelajaran. Kesalahan guru dalama memberikan asesmen kepada siswa akan berdampak pada hasil pembelajaran yang diberikan. Sehingga guru sebelum melakukan pembelajaran membuat lesson plan sebagai patokan untuk mengajar di dalam kelas dan di dalam komponen assessment tersebut dimuatkan assessment yang akan digunakan. Berdasarkan hasil observasi, peneliti menemukan bahwa asesmen yang dilaksanakan di sekolah tidak sesuai rubrik yang tertuangkan di dalam buku guru kurikulum 2013 dari kementerian pendidikan dan kebudayaan, pemberian asesmen kepada siswa dilakukan berdasarkan pengamatan dan penafsiran saja tanpa melalui prosedur yang sebenarnya. Fokus penelitian ini adalah 1) Untuk mengetahui bagaimana penilaian siswa dalam lesson plan, dan 2) Apa saja kesulitan siswa dalam penilaian keterampilan speaking di dalam pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Data diperoleh dari wawancara dengan guru bahasa Inggris dan wawancara dengan 32 siswa kelas VIII-A SMP Negeri 1 Somlomolo. Data wawancara dianalisis untuk menentukan jawaban dari pertanyaan penelitian. Setelah menganalisis jawaban, temuan penelitian menyimpulkan asesmen sangat mempengaruhi tingkat keberhasilan siswa di dalam proses pembelajaran karena dengan asesmen yang baik dan sesuai prosedur maka dapat diambil langkah yang tepat apa hal yang perlu dilakukan untuk mengoptimalkan hasil belajar siswa. Tapi pada kenyataannya asesmen yang diberikan guru jauh dari yang diharapkan Selain itu, ada juga beberapa factor yang membuat siswa kesulitan selama penilaian yaitu siswa kurang kosa kata, tidak percaya diri, takut diejek sehingga hal inilah yang membuat mereka tidak bisa mendapatkan hasil yang optimal. Akhirnya, peneliti menulis beberapa saran: guru bahasa Inggris disarankan untuk berlatih dan membiasakan diri untuk memberikan penilaian yang sesuai dengan rubrik dan membuat suasana pembelajaran yang inovatif dan kreatif pada saat melakukan penilaian sehingga siswa tidak merasa takut, dan punya semangat untuk praktik belajar bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Listening is an important skill that should be mastered by the students in the classrooms since the skill involves a process of understanding spoken message. The syllabus of Junior High School expects the students to have a good ability to understand the meaning they listen from the monologue text but reality shows the reverse. The Eight Grade of SMP Negeri 5 Idanogawo are not able to fulfill the expectation in the syllabus. After finding out the problem, the researcher want to find the effect of Listen on the students’ ability in listening skill. This research will be conducted through a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study was class VIII students of SMP Negeri 5 Idanogawo for the 2022/2023 academic year, totaling 60 students of class VIII A- of SMP Negeri 5 idanogawo as the informant. the research chooses class VIII B - as the sample of the research because based on the information from the english teacher that the class was in middle score lowest. After validating the test, the researcher will give the pre-test to both classes to examine the normality of the data and homogeneity of the sample. Moreover, after giving treatment, the researcher administers the post test in both of the classes to get the result of the treatment and to examine the result of the normality of the data and homogeneity. Furthermore, the purpose of the research is to find whether there is a significant Effect of Listen and Do Activity on Students Listening Ability at the eight Grade of SMP Negeri 5 Idanogawo in 2022/2023.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the students’ ability in translating analytical exposition text at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli. This research used descriptive research approach. The data was students’ translation analytical exposition text by eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli. The instrument that used to collect the data were test and questionnaire sheet. The data was analyzed by using translation scoring rubric that consist of three main aspect, namely: Accuracy, Readability, and acceptability. Furthermore, the researcher presented the data with percentage of scoring and described it into a description paragraph. The result of study showed that students’ score in translating analytical exposition text was 44,8. From the questionnaire, this research showed the students difficulties in translating long sentences was the most prominent factors that caused the students have difficulties in translating the text with the highest percentage was 63,8%. Based on the result of this research, the researcher suggest that the teacher should give more exercise or practice in translation activity, so that the students can overcome the difficulties that students face and make a good translation without difficulties.

Abstract

Writing exercises can be used to introduce students to a literary text, to motivate and help them to create their understanding of the text, and articulate their own interpretation of the text. Writing exercise is primarily on grammar, students will get good marks if the texts are free from errors or have only just very few errors. Therefore, the objectives of this research were to know the types of writing exercises in the English textbook and to know the compatibility based on the syllabus. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative. This research is about content analysis design. The data was collected by using documentation. The steps to analyze the exercises are reading the exercises suggested by the syllabus, identifying the number of writing exercises in English textbook and classifying based on the competency and skill which emphasizes in the exercise.After observing the English textbook, then matching it with the 2013 curriculum, the researcher found several types of writing exercises and counted the compatibility with the syllabus. First, the researcher found 4 types of writing exercises in the English textbook, which is (a) Completing texts/sentences, (b) Writing sentence dealing with grammar, (c) Writing short functional text, and (d) Developing vocabulary into sentences. Second, the compatibility of writing exercises in English textbook with the syllabus, the result show that the percentages offer to the schema of quality classification by Arikunto is 71%. It means the score is good, and the textbook can be used as a media in the learning process. From this result, it can be concluded that this textbook compatible with the 2013 curriculum and can be recommended as teaching-learning media in the class.

Abstract

This research aims to improve students' abilities in reading comprehension by using the Reading and Feedback strategy. Researcher use Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of this study were class VIII-A students of SMP Negeri 3 Sogae'adu for the 2022/2023 academic year, which consisted of 19 students. The researcher has conducted in two cycles. Each cycles consists of two meeting. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation sheet, test and field notes sheet. The result of the data in Cycle I, there were 7 students (37%) categorized in the fail level, 2 students ( 10 %) categorized into the less level, 3 students (16%) categorized into the adequate level, 7 students ( 37%) categorized into the good level. The average of the students’ value was 53.69%. This result showed that the students were unsuccessful. While in Cycle II, there were no students categorized into the fail, less and adequate level, 7 students (37%) categorized into the good level, and 12 students (63%) categorized into the very good level. The average of the students’ value was 83.68%. Therefore, the researcher concluded that the Students' Reading and Feedback (SRF) strategy was successful in improving students' reading comprehension ability in understanding recount text.

Abstract

There were some problems that students faced when speaking, such as: difficult in conveying their ideas, lack of vocabulary, incorrect pronunciation, and the strategy that used by the teacher that monotonous and boring. The purpose of this research was to improve the students' speaking skills through Talking Stick Strategy at the tenth grade of SMK Negeri 2 Gunungsitoli in 2022/2023. The researcher conducted this research by using Classroom Action Research (CAR). Instrument of the research were observation sheets, field notes and oral test. In Cycle I, the average percentage of the researcher's completed activities was 79% (good), and the percentage of the students' completed activities was 72.5% (adequate). In this cycle, the students could not achieve the Minimum Competence Criterion (MCC) of 70, students' average score was 51 (less). All the students scored ≤ 70, with the highest score was 63 and the lowest score was 38. Furthermore, in Cycle II, the average percentage of the researcher's completed activities was 95% (very good), and the students' completed activities was 91% (very good). In this cycle, the students had achieved the Minimum Competence Criterion (MCC) of 70, the students' average score was 79 (good). None of the students scored ≤ 70, with the highest score was 81 and the lowest score was 75. Based on the results of this research, the researcher concluded that Talking Stick Strategy could improve the students' speaking skill in the tenth grade of SMK Negeri 2 Gunungsitoli in 2022/2023.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze whether the content of “Bahasa Inggris SMA” textbook in the part of its speaking material is in line with Dat Bao’s theory. This research used descriptive research type with the content analysis. The data was English textbook “Bahasa Inggris SMA” used by eleventh grade students of SMA Swasta Santu Xaverius Gunungsitoli that consist of eight Chapters. The research instruments were textbook evaluation sheet and interview sheet. The data was then analyzed by using assessment rubric of Dat Bao’s theory that consists of four main aspects, namely; linguistic support, content-based and affective support, skill support, and diversity and flexibility. Thereafter, the researcher presented the data with percentage of scoring and interpreted it into a description paragraph. The result of study showed that English textbook “Bahasa Inggris SMA” did not successfully fulfill Dat Bao’s theory, where the linguistic support was (73.95%), content-based and affective support (48.43%), skill support (70.31%), and diversity and flexibility (58.31%). The percentage showed that it was still lacking of linguistic input in pronunciation section, lacking of supporting students’ cultural and visuals that support verbal learning, lacking of supporting communicative functions and strategies, and lacking of variety of speaking activities. From the research findings, the researcher suggested that the textbook needs to be developed in terms of its content of speaking materials. Subsequently, both ELT teacher and textbook writer should concern and pay attention with the content of the textbook suggested by Dat Bao’s theory.

Abstract

This qualitative study aims to understand the process of designing lesson plans for writing activities in the tenth grade at SMK Negeri 2 Alasa Talumuzoi for the academic year 2022/2023 and identify challenges faced by an English teacher during implementation. Data was collected through observations and interviews with the teacher. The analysis followed qualitative techniques, leading to conclusions based on the research objectives. The findings reveal that the teacher's lesson planning process includes various components such as educational details, competencies, objectives, materials, methods, activities, and assessments. The teacher effectively designs the lesson plan. However, challenges were identified, including incomplete alignment between competencies and activities, lack of clear instructions for students, underutilization of teaching media, inadequate final assessments, and limited student involvement in summarization. This research provides insights into the strengths and weaknesses of lesson planning and implementation in the context of writing activities.

Abstract

Bentuk interaksi antara guru dan siswa tergolong interaksi kelompok dengan individu, interaksi ini digambarkan oleh siswa sebagai kelompok dengan individu, artinya seorang guru melakukan kegiatan meminta dan memberi pendapat sehingga memungkinkan interaksi berjalan dengan baik di lingkungan sekolah dan proses kegiatan belajar, yang akan menimbulkan respon dari siswa. Respon adalah umpan balik yang diterima siswa atas pembelajaran yang telah mereka pelajari. Masalah dalam penelitian ini yaitu sulitnya respon siswa dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis deskriptif kualitatif, teknik yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah observasi dan wawancara dan dari hasil wawancara tersebut peneliti menganalisis data dengan cara reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui respon siswa dan untuk menjelaskan faktor penyebab kesulitan respon siswa dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dalam meminta dan memberikan pendapat di kelas delapan UPTD SMP Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli. Jumlah subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah 32 siswa dari kelas VIII-D. Berdasarkan hasil, dimana beberapa siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami, menerjemahkan, mengemukakan pendapat atau ide dalam bahasa Inggris. Faktor penyebab respon siswa sulit adalah penggunaan metode yang monoton atau ceramah yang mengakibatkan siswa kurang aktif, kurangnya kosa kata sehingga siswa kesulitan menyusun kalimat dan mengungkapkannya dalam bahasa Inggris, kurang percaya diri. Akhirnya berdasarkan hasil tersebut, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di UPTD SMP Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli rendah sehingga harus ditingkatkan lagi terutama dalam menanggapi pertanyaan atau memberikan pendapat dari guru dimana siswa harus menjawab dengan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

The researcher conducted a study entitled An Analysis of Students' Writing Skill Taught by Project-Based Learning Model at the Tenth Grade of SMK Negeri 1 Dharma Caraka Gunungsitoli Selatan in 2022/2023, with the aim to find and describe students' writing skill and the problems faced by students in writing taught by project-based learning model at the Tenth Grade of SMK Negeri 1 Dharma Caraka Gunungsitoli Selatan in 2022/2023. This research had conducted using descriptive qualitative research method. The data was collected and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman (1984) data analysis model. The results of the study showed that there were 12% or 4 students got the excellent category, there were 58% or 19 students got the good category, there were 15% or 5 students got the average category, there were 15% or 5 students got the fair category. Meanwhile, the average writing skill of students of class X Askep 2 SMK Negeri 1 Dharma Caraka Gunungsitoli Selatan who were taught using a project-based learning model were good with an average of 65.27, which meant that students had written descriptive text according to the form but still incomplete, less organized but the main idea is already visible, the choice of words and expressions is sometimes less precise but does not interfere with the meaning, and there are some mistakes in spelling but the meaning is not blurred. Meanwhile, the problems that students often encountered when writing English texts were cognitive problems consisting of generic structure, grammar, and spelling problems.
