Abstract

Labor pain is a subjective experience of physical sensations associated with uterine contractions, cervical dilatation and effacement, and fetal descent during labour. One way to reduce the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is through the maternal affection movement which is an aspect of the 5 common threads to help mothers feel safe and during the delivery process. Various efforts have been made to reduce pain both pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically, pharmacological methods are very important because they do not harm the mother and fetus. This study was conducted to identify the reduction of pain in first-stage labor mothers with the deep back massage method with lavender oil. This research is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest design in the BPM Working Area of the Polonia Health Center. The sampling technique in this study was a purposive sample with as many as 20 respondents. Pain intensity will be measured using NRS (Numeric Rating Scale). And it was found that being given a deep back massage with lavender oil had an effect on reducing labor pain and it was good to do it when the mother gave birth who had entered the active phase because it could provide physiological and psychological benefits.

Abstract

Background: Caesarean section is one of the most common interventions to overcome labor complications. However, pain cannot be avoided after the surgery. Lavender aromatherapy is considered as one of non-pharmacological therapy to reduce pain and increase beta-endorphin levels. Objective: To examine the effect of lavender aromatherapy on the intensity of pain and beta-endorphin levels in post-caesarean mothers. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with pretest and posttest with control group at Sembiring Delitua General Hospital in Indonesia on December 2016 to February 2017. There were 40 samples selected using purposive sampling, with 20 samples assigned in the experiment and control group. Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) was used to measure pain and ELIZA methods to measure beta-endorphin levels. Independent t-test and paired t-test were used for data analysis Results: Results of this study showed that there was a significant difference in the mean value of pain intensity levels (p = 0.000) and beta-endorphin levels (p = 0.023) between experiment and control group. Conclusion: There was a significant effect of lavender aromatherapy on the decrease of pain intensity and the increase of beta-endorphin hormone in post-caesarean mothers. It is expected that lavender aromatherapy can be used as an alternative treatment to reduce pain and increase beta-endorphin levels in post-caesarean mothers.

Abstract

The incidence of cancer in women of childbearing age globally and Indonesia is increasing. The majority of women of childbearing age become users of birth control acceptors, so this study's approval is to determine the effects of hormonal contraception on women of childbearing age. This study uses retrospective methods.   The case group was a woman of childbearing age who became a hormonal birth control acceptor with a sample of 30 respondents. Data analysis using chi-square obtained a value of p = 0.276, meaning there is no meaningful association between hormonal contraception in women of childbearing age and cancer incidence.   The discrepancy of the results of this study with previous research or existing theories may have several possibilities. This can occur in women who use hormonal contraceptives to maintain a healthy lifestyle by maintaining a healthy diet and activity patterns and minimizing the consumption of fatty foods, supported by the nutritional status of women who experience breast cancer normal nutritional status. However, if used for an extended period will also affect the incidence of breast cancer.

Abstract

Obesity is becoming one of the main factors in the increase in non-communicable diseases globally. In Indonesia, the prevalence of central obesity at 15 years and over continues to increase. The increase in visceral fat is related to abnormal metabolisms, such as a decrease in glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, causing an increase in blood sugar levels, a risk factor for diabetes. To predict the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus, the abdominal circumference is a better predictor than BMI against type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study aims to determine the relationship between abdominal circumference to blood sugar levels in young women. This research is an observational analytical study using the cross-section method. Sampling in this study used a consecutive sample, which was taken based on inclusion and exclusion criteria in the population. The overall subjects of the study amounted to 70 respondents. The results showed a meaningful relationship between the abdominal circumference and fasting blood sugar levels (p = 0.000) with a moderate correlation (r = 0.440) and a significant relationship between abdominal circumference to blood sugar levels 2 hours after glucose loading (p = 0.030) with a weak correlation (r = 0.259). This study concluded that there is a relationship between abdominal circumference and blood sugar levels using an oral glucose tolerance test in young women. As a recommendation, young women should maintain their lifestyle and keep their abdominal circumference not exceeding 80 centimeters to prevent diabetes.

Abstract

Labor pain is a complex phenomenon with sensory, emotional and perceptive components and is considered one of the most serious types of pain. Severe pain can affect the increase in heart rate, respiratory system, increase in blood pressure and can cause stress and inhibit the release of the hormone oxytocin which results in inadequate contractions and disruption of cervical dilatation. The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of the kneading technique and deep breathing relaxation on pain intensity during the first active phase in labor mothers. This research method is a quasi experiment using the two groups post test only design method. The sampling technique was a purposive sample of 40 people divided into 20 respondents in the intervention group and 20 respondents in the control group and the duration of the study was 7 months. Data analysis consisted of bivariates with Mann Whitney. The results showed that the intensity of labor pain in the group given the kneading technique and deep breathing relaxation for mothers in labor showed a mild pain scale of 11 people (55%). The intensity of labor pain in the non-treated group showed a severe pain scale of 18 (90%). Conclusion: There is an effect of kneading techniques and deep breathing relaxation on the intensity of labor pain in the first active phase of labor in women with a p-value less than 0.0000.Abstrak: Nyeri persalinan adalah fenomena yang kompleks dengan komponen sensorik, emosional  dan perseptif dan dianggap sebagai salah satu jenis nyeri yang paling serius.
