Abstract

This study aims to conduct a literature review on student error analysis in solving mathematical word problems using the Fong schema model across all levels of education. The study utilized the SLR (Systematic Literature Review) method to collect data by identifying and examining all relevant articles published between 2013 and 2023. A search of the Google Scholar database using Harzing's Publish or Perish application yielded 21 articles that met the review theme criteria. The results of this research reveal fluctuations in the number of studies conducted over the past ten years. Based on the research criteria, most studies were conducted on junior high school students, particularly on the topic of solid geometry, with the majority of research subjects coming from Java Island. Common student errors found include procedural mistakes and incomplete conclusions, which are essential to consider in mathematics learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' mathematical representation abilities in terms of self-efficacy and cognitive style. Systematic Literature Review (SLR) is the method used in this research. The population in this study is all primary studies regarding students' mathematical representation abilities, and the sample is primary studies located in Indonesia, from 2013 to 2022, found on ERIC or Google Scholar. The research sample consisted of 31 articles consisting of 13 articles based on self-efficacy and 18 articles based on cognitive style. The conclusion is that from 2016 to 2022, every year, there are publications regarding mathematical representations, and they are dominated at the junior high school. The dominant research was conducted in the Java area, geometry is a mathematic topic that has been researched the most, and the results of this research have been published in SINTA the most. In general, mathematical representation ability is directly proportional to self-efficacy. Witkin & Goodenough theory is dominantly used in cognitive style.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to identify the learning obstacles faced by students in the topic of quadratic equations. The data for this study were obtained through tests and interviews. A qualitative research method with a hermeneutic phenomenology design was employed. The study involved 30 ninth-grade students from a junior high school in Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan. Several learning obstacles were experienced by students in the concept of quadratic equations, namely: 1) ontogenic obstacles occur due to students' inability to grasp the concept of quadratic equations. This is caused by a mismatch between the learning or knowledge intended to be constructed by students and their thinking abilities; 2) Didactical obstacles arise from the lack of coherence in the material, both in terms of the interconnectedness of quadratic equation concepts and the continuity of the thinking process, as well as the presentation of less-detailed materials; 3) Epistemological obstacles occur because students' knowledge related to quadratic equations is limited to specific contexts only.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the tendency of students' information literacy in finding and retrieving information, sources of information, and using information. The population in this study were students of the Mathematics Education Study Program at one university in West Java Province class of 2021-2022, the sample was taken as many as 30 students using convenience sampling technique. This research is included in qualitative research with data collection techniques in the form of questionnaires distributed using google form. The data was processed descriptively qualitatively by means of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that 72.16% of students are able to search for information well, 69.49% of students are able to manage information well, and the most widely used sources of information by Mathematics Education students in university of West Java Province are online journals, printed books, and digital libraries. The conclusion in this study is that students already have information literacy during online learning in the 2021/2022 school year, but still need to improve the quality of learning to maximize students' use and management of information

Abstract

This research aims to describe students' errors in solving story problems related to quadratic functions and identify the underlying factors causing these errors. The research conducted is qualitative. The study took place in one of the junior high schools in South Kalimantan, involving 5 subjects from Grade IX. The research instrument used was three descriptive story problems—data collection techniques involved analyzing the answers to the descriptive test and conducting interviews. Based on the analysis, the types of errors made by the subject are as follows: 1) Misread-direction errors (30%): Students failed to read the instructions properly due to rushing or being unfamiliar with reading question instructions. 2) Careless errors (40%): Students made calculation mistakes due to lack of attention to detail. 3) Concept errors (20%): Students lacked understanding of quadratic function concepts due to insufficient study. 4) Application errors (33.33%): Students could not apply concepts and formulas effectively in solving problems due to a lack of comprehension of the subject matter. 5) Test-taking errors (66.67%): Students failed to restate information from the problem because of being in a hurry and unfamiliar with solving story problems.
