Abstract

Algebra becomes an essential topic for all school mathematics topics. Nevertheless, many students still experience difficulties in learning algebra, one of them is senior high school students in Yayasan Graha Asuh Jabal 165, Kabupaten Bandung. Lack of effective learning activity in the class becomes the primary source for students’ difficulty. As an attempt to overcome this problem, the theory of didactic situation (TDS) could be adopted as a reference to implement the learning activity that possibly engages the students to be more active in the learning process. Therefore, this activity is held to help students in understanding the concept of algebraic forms with the learning based on the TDS. The method of this activity consisted of three stages, that was 1) the analysis of students’ difficulty in understanding the algebraic forms, 2) the learning implementation based on the TDS, and 3) the evaluation of students’ learning. The result shows that in the analysis stage, many students did not understand the concept of variables, coefficients, constants, equations, and algebraic operations. The next stage is learning implementation based on the TDS which comprises of the situation of action, formulation, validation, and institutionalization. The last one is evaluation where all students manage to understand the concept of algebraic forms and their application in daily life. This shows an improvement of their conceptual understanding in algebra.

Abstract

Slow learners or also known as slow learners have unique characteristics. One of them is that slow learners have low memory and concentration. Mathematics teachers’ understanding of slow learners in regular schools needs to be considered so that slow learners achieve the same goals as regular students in learning mathematics. In general, this study aims to describe and analyze how the process of learning mathematics in slow learners in regular schools. This study uses a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques using interviews. The main data used in this study is primary data. The data in this study are the results of unstructured interviews with the required informants. Based on the results of the analysis obtained (1) the importance of teachers and parents in overcoming problems in slow learners, (2) the strategy or approach used by the teacher is one of the supporting factors for the success of slow learners in the mathematics learning process, (3) teachers in regular schools have several obstacles in the mathematics learning process such as not being too familiar with implementing inclusive education in regular schools, (4) regular schools recommending the parents of the students concerned to transfer slow learners to inclusive schools so that slow learners get more special attention in learning, especially mathematics learning

Abstract

Mathematics anxiety can be found at all levels of education, from elementary school to college students. This study aims to conduct a literature review related to mathematics anxiety in mathematics learning. The research method chosen in this study is the Systematic Literature Review. Data collection was carried out by documenting all articles that had similar research in this research report. The articles used in this study were 98 articles published for the period 2014–2022. The research was conducted at all levels of education. Based on the research results, there were 98 relevant articles published in 2014-2022 regarding mathematics anxiety in mathematics learning. It was noted that articles related to mathematical abilities including soft skills and hard skills dominated the number of articles. The collected articles mostly focus on research at the junior high school level, and researchers tend to prefer using quantitative research methods in their research.
