Abstract

Citrus fruit has a sweet taste and attractive shape, which is also enriched various health benefits. Some studies have been performed to investigate the pharmacology effects from the Sunkist peel extract. However, none of this study was look for the development of pharmaceutical products. Hence this study was performed to investigate the pharmaceutical formulation as an effervescent granule from Sunkist peel extract. This study was an experimental study to investigate the optimum formulation that was made by wet granulation methods. There were three formulation of Sunkist peel extract effervescent granule that were combination of organic acids (citric acid and tartaric acid), sodium bicarbonate as base compound, and some sweetener including aspartame, lactose, and mannitol. After that, the formulation was evaluated the physical properties including organoleptic, flow rate, dissolution time, foam height, pH, and angle of repose. The result of this study showed that these three formulations of Sunkist Peel extract effervescent granule showed significant different in almost all of physical properties including: flow rate (P-Value = 0.027), dissolution time (P-Value less than 0.05), foam height (P-Value = 0.004), and angle of repose (P-Value: 0.043), except the degree of acidity or pH (P-Value = 0.128). Third formulation (F3) reveals the best physical properties as a Sunkist peel extract effervescent granule. Overall, it can be concluded that the third and second formulation fulfils a well physical properties of effervescent granule for Sunkist peel extract.

Abstract

Background: The GATS research findings indicate that tobacco use in Indonesia is the highest worldwide among teenagers, with a percentage of 34.8% consumed by individuals aged 15 and above. Tobacco companies leverage this legality to market cigarettes widely to students, including university students. Smoke-free areas are government efforts to prevent smoking on campuses. Objective: To identify determinant factors affecting non-smoking behavior among smokers in smoke-free campus areas. Methods: This research study is descriptive quantitative with a cross-sectional design. It used a purposive sampling technique with criteria of 74 male smoker students from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Universitas Prima Indonesia and was analyzed using a chi-square test. Results: The chi-square test analysis results indicated an effect between knowledge and attitude on non-smoking behavior in smoke-free campus areas with a P-value of 0.001.Conclusion: The research findings found that knowledge and attitude are determinant factors of non-smoking behavior among smokers in smoke-free campus areas.

Abstract

Treatment with acne vulgaris is a challenge because the complex pathophysiology of acne vulgaris. One of the natural products that potentially use as a herbal medicine is Sunkist peel. The peel of Sunkist is more inclined to end up as waste from domestic industries. The aim of this study was to investigate the antiacne activity of the Sunkist peel methanol extract gel in vivo study. The experimental study used by applied Sunkist peel extract gel to rats injected intradermally with Propionibacterium acne suspension. One hour before the injection of Propionibacterium acnes suspension, all rats were applied to a topical gel based on the group. Control, standard, Sunkist Peel Extract Gel-I, II, and III groups received gel base, clindamycin, 5%, 10%, and 15% of Sunkist peel extract gel, respectively. This study indicates the methanol extract of Sunkist orange peel with a yield of 8.73% revealed the presence of some phytochemicals, including alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. Sunkist orange peel methanol extract gel significantly reduced the size of acne vulgaris lesions after 7-14 days of extract application (p-value <0.05). It is in line with the histological study that the gel concentration increased, followed by the growth of the epidermal layer. This study sstrongly indicates that Sunkist orange peel methanol extract has an antiacne effect in a physically stable gel form.
