Abstract

This study aims to analyze parents' efforts to increase children's interest in learning. This research uses qualitative methods with a case study approach. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation. Data sources were taken from six informants consisting of parents and elementary school children through direct interviews. All data were analyzed thematically using the Miles and Huberman technique. The results of the study as a whole describe nine main themes of parents' efforts to increase children's interest in learning, namely i) parents know children's learning development, ii) complete children's learning facilities, iii) guide children to study at home, iv) control children's study time, v) limiting the use of gadgets, vi) a comfortable learning environment, vii) children attend tutoring, viii) give rewards to children, xi) parents' economic influence

Abstract

Abstract

Education is one of the main keys to creating and forming Indonesian human qualities that are superior and have strong competitiveness. In Indonesia, children's education on the coast generally has the same problems, namely low levels of education and inadequate socio-economic life. Thus this study aims to analyze what are the problems of children's education on the coast. This research uses a qualitative method with an approach to ethnography. The research data was taken from eight informants consisting of children, parents, and the surrounding community. To strengthen the interview data the authors also made direct observations of children in coastal areas. Interview and observation data were analyzed using Analysis Interactive Model Milles & Hubberman. The results of this study are that there are five problems that hinder children's education on the coast, namely inadequate economic conditions, children's desire to follow their parents' career path, low interest in learning in children, lack of motivation from parents to go to school and environmental factors and friends. The results of this study can be used as information for the community to find solutions to existing problems.

Abstract

Children's education is the responsibility of every parent; therefore parents must be able to provide the best quality education for their children, including choosing an educational institution, one of which is the State Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah. This study aims to analyze the motivation of parents to choose religious education institutions as a means of children's education. This study used a qualitative method with a case study approach, data sources were taken from fifteen informants through direct interviews using a set of interview protocols. All data were analyzed thematically using the Miles and Huberman technique. Overall, the study results show five main themes of parents' motivation to choose Madrasah Ibtidaiyaah Negeri as their child's educational institution. The five themes are: i) prioritizing religious learning and general learning, ii) emphasizing character education through religious activities iii) students are able to apply Islamic norms in everyday life, iv) complete infrastructure facilities in Madrasahs, and v) environmental atmosphere nice madrasa. The results of this study can be used as initial data for future researchers in studying parental motivation in the context of different issues.
