Abstract

The aging process is a process of slowly disappearing the ability of tissues to repair themselves or replace and maintain their normal functions. Tooth decay, tooth mobility, caries, halitosis, gingivitis, gingival recession, loss of periodontal attachment, and alveolar bone are changes in periodontal tissue that are commonly found in the elderly. If this is not treated, it can cause mobility and loss of teeth which will interfere with the function and activity of the oral cavity and will have an impact on the quality of life. Dental and oral health problems become one of the problems that have negative implications for overall health that in the end, it affects the quality of life in the elderly. Based on this analysis, in implementing the Tridarma of Higher Education, especially community service, the strategy is to increase public access to dental health services. One form of community service that can be carried out is promotive and preventive efforts. This activity is an educational approach to increase the ability and participation of the elderly community in maintaining dental health which can affect a person's quality of life.

Abstract

Background: Many pregnant women know less about maintaining healthy teeth and mouth. Pregnancy is a physiological process that causes changes in a woman's body physic and psycho. In order to uphold optimal oral health, it is imperative that dental treatment not be withheld. The dental management of pregnant patients necessitates the incorporation of specific considerations. Objective: This research aims to describe the factors which improve dental and oral health services for antenatal care. Materials and Methods: The analysis method used in this systematic review is descriptive. The strategy used to search for articles using PICO and literature search was conducted in June 2022. The data used in this research were tertiary obtained from previous researchers' study results. The source of tertiary data obtained in the article of the journal International Reputable. The literature search in this systematic review uses the following databases: Scopus, Science Direct, PubMed, and Google Scholar. Searching articles or journals use keywords and boolean operators (AND, OR, and NOT). The evaluation of the systematic review uses the PRISMA checklist to determine whether the studies have been reaching out and are similar to the purpose of a systematic review. The total number of studies was eight articles. Result: Pregnancy should not be considered an absolute reason to defer required dental care. Perceived need, knowledge, awareness, and socioeconomic were identified as factors that could increase visits and dental oral health services for pregnant women. Well-designed studies with reliable outcomes are required to confirm the findings described in this review. Conclusion: promoting dental care during pregnancy requires a multi-faceted approach that involves raising maternal awareness, garnering support from healthcare providers, addressing socioeconomic disparities, and dispelling misconceptions. By integrating oral health into prenatal care and implementing targeted educational programs, healthcare systems can improve dental care utilization among pregnant women, ultimately leading to better maternal and infant oral health outcomes.

Abstract

Dental and oral health in Indonesia is still a health problem that needs attention. The most concerning thing is that as many as 93% of school-age children experience dental and mouth problems. This can be caused by a lack of knowledge and awareness of dental hygiene. One of the efforts made to increase knowledge and awareness of dental hygiene is by holding an educational activity called the "School Health Program". This activity was carried out in several schools, one of which was TK ITS. This activity began with the Training of Trainer Program given by dentists to teacher cadres and parents of students/students/students about the benefits of good oral hygiene and how to brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Dentists provide educational materials using power point media and educational videos through the zoom application. There were 5 cadres consisting of 2 teachers and 3 guardians of students who attended this activity. After that, the teacher cadres and parents of the students/students disseminate information to other parents of students/students so that they can become mentors to their children to apply good and correct behavior of brushing their teeth twice a day for 21 days with the method recorded on the given calendar. The hope is that after this program ends, students at ITS Kindergarten have the behavior of maintaining oral hygiene by brushing their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
