Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the improvement of speaking skills by using the TEDxTalks YouTube Channel. The researcher carried out in class XI TKR 5 of the SMK SWASTA 2 TAMANSISWA PEMATANG SIANTAR. This research used the quantitative approach with an experimental design by using the one-group design by cluster sampling technique for choosing 32 students from class XI TKR 5 and every student would give the pre-test and post-test for data collection. The technique of collecting the data is by using the statistic application called SPSS 21.0 version. Based on the hypothesis testing, it is be shown that Tcounted = 65,000 > Ttable = 1,695 which indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This statement means there is a significant differences on students’ speaking skill by using TEDxTalks YouTube Channel especially in their accuracy and fluency. The conclusion of this research is that the using of TEDxTalks YouTube Channel can significantly improve students' speaking skills, particularly accuracy and fluency

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the using of Initiation Response Feedback (IRF) Pattern on Students Interaction In Speaking Skills. The writer carried out in class VIII-7 of the SMP Negeri 5 Pematang Siantar. This researcher used the qualitative approach with ethnography by using PURPOSIVE sampling technique for selecting 27 students from class VIII-7 as the data . The data were collected by observation and video recording. The result of study is initiation because initiation is the main role who acted as the initiator of a topic or conversation in order to get feedback and response. The students are already able to find sufficient initiative topics when they want to open a conversation, because the initiative isn’t complicated when giving feedback and responses. Initiative is the same as basic greeting which does not require complicated vocabulary to follow topics such as feedback and respond. Simple initiation can be easily understood by students because the sentence is not complicated, without having to strengthen the topic, because initiation acts as the way of opening. so cause the aspect of initiation is higher than the other aspects

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the improvement of students’ vocabulary by using team assisted individually (TAI) and cooperative integrated Reading and composition (CIRC) method. The researcher carried out at the eight grade of SMP N 1 Dolok Pardeamean. This research used the quantitative approach with an experimental design by using the one-group design by cluster sampling technique for choosing 30 students and every student would give the pre-test and post-test for data collection. The technique of collecting the data is by using the statistic application called SPSS 21.0 version. Based on the result of the hypothesis testing that the T-counted is greater than T-table (Tcounted = 9,543 > Ttable = 1,699). This means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted it can be conclude that the TAI and CIRC method is effective for improving students' vocabulary, as evidenced by the rejection of the null hypothesis and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis based on statistical analysis. The conclusion of this research is that the used of the TAI and CIRC is effective because it involves collaborative reading, discussion, and writing activities that help learners engage with and internalize new words and concepts

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the implementation Project Based Learning can improve students’ writing skill at SMP Swasta YPK Pematang Siantar. This was a research with quantitative approach. The method in this research was true experimental with pretest-posttest control group design. The samples were 60 students of junior high school, 30 students classified as the experimental group and 30 students as the control group. It was used the writing test for the instrument and the data was analyzed using SPSS 2.6. The results of the data analysis indicate that hypothesis testing of posttest scores, it is found that tcount = 8.973 > ttable = 1,699 at the significance level = 0,05 and degrees of freedom (df) = 29, null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means that there are significantly differences on students’ skill by using Project Based Learning (PjBL) and without using Project Based Learning (PjBL) in writing in procedure text at seventh grade of SMP Swasta YPK Pematang Siantar. This is also supported by Sholihah (2017) that Porject Based Learning gives the experience to students discussing and develops their critical thinking. The learning activity also is not teacher centered, because the researcher asked the students to design a plan and record video with the topic they choose. While the students were doing the project, the researcher was monitoring the progress of their project. This project increased the teamwork so that student could be more active in learning activity. After doing the video project, the students asked to write down the procedure text step by step based on the video they made. By doing the project video, the student could understand the process step by step of making a procedure of something, and could improve their writing better directly from the experience
