Abstract

ABSTRACT A study reveals a global prevalence of 22,7% of dental trauma affecting primary teeth through a meta-analysis. Among children aged 0-6 years, oral injuries contribute to 18% of total physical injuries. Dental trauma in children has significant consequences on their oral health. Managing dental trauma in children poses challenges for parents and patients. An education and training activities were held to increase the knowledge of mothers in handling primary dentition dental trauma and management of children’s oral health. This event was carried by Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Trisakti staff members on Mei 2023. This education and training activities were given to Birth Club April 2021 community members. After series of this event, the participant seems to have an increase in knowledge which can be seen in the increase of participant correct post-test answer around 8,82%. Support and participation from the community also contribute to the success of education and training activities. With increased parental knowledge, it is hoped that serious dental health issues in children can be prevented, aiding them in growing up with healthy and strong teeth.

Abstract

Oral health contributes to individual's physical, mental, and social well-being and significantly impacts their quality of life. Preventing oral diseases and promoting oral health contribute to overall well-being, enhancing their quality of life. Community-level or population-based prevention is the most cost-effective approach with the greatest impact on communities or populations, whether in schools or neighborhoods. Oral health education aims to enhance overall knowledge, potentially leading to the adoption of beneficial oral health behaviors. The provision of oral health education is expected to elevate public knowledge and awareness, enabling individuals to maintain or enhance their oral health and thus improve their quality of life. Offline activities involving oral health education were conducted through presentations on May 7th, 2023, at Giova’s Garden, Bogor. Various topics, including dental radiographic examination, primary management of dental trauma, dental prosthesis rehabilitation, oral health in children, and tips for maintaining oral health while driving, were presented to enhance participants' knowledge about oral health. The community engagement activity proceeded smoothly. Similar activities are anticipated to be carried out again with pre-test and post-test assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of the education provided.
